That's not entirely fair, Pantera. I think Pavlik cleaning house in the middleweight division is very plausible.
Anything is plausible, I just think it is WAY too early to talk as confident as Means does about Pavlik. When I wrote that I was referring to the below quote (I think he was being a little sacrastic, but I didn't read it that way at first)

in the gym kelly says he wants to move up to heavyweight someday but only after winning a title at 160 to add his name on the RJJ 160-200+ list
Re: I think Sergei Liakhovich was drugged!
Thing is Sergei was open all night for the right hand when Briggs finally threw it it was effective, I think that whole 12 round scenario could have happened in the 2nd 3rd and 4th rounds or whatever. It happened regardless. I'm sure if Briggs fought someone who wasnt a counter puncher and pressed him he would be exciting.
Re: I think Sergei Liakhovich was drugged!
Lyakhovic had excellent activity vs Brewster, and his chin was better too, I have to say though, i'm happy for shannon briggs, if he's clean that is.

I completely agree Starr. Before the fight I really thought Briggs was a sure thing.... But both were in terrible shape. I watched the Briggs/Lewis fight from like 98 or 99 this weekend on Classic. It really shows how poor the division is. Briggs isn't any better and not in any better shape...jsut sad is all.

anyway all the $$ i bet on PBF i lost on Sergei ,so i'm pretty sore
i honestly thought a win for the russian was a solid thing :o
He wasn't drugged. It looked like he was on drugs! Maybe next time he won't do any before a big fight

He was punched drunk.
you mean from the brewster fight still? cause i dont think he took enough punches in this fight to accumulate ...and he should have gotten up and moved
off the subject though i never noticed Sergei had such disgusting footwork and crossed his legs so many times and it was like he had no idea how to side step or push & slide when he was against the ropes...you may very well be right that the brewster fight ruined him if thats what you mean
do u think he was scared too maybe?
You know what
Give Briggs his credit. He was just as tired if not more tired then Sergei but he showed the champions heart to dig deep and stop him with one second left and could barely stand aftert he fight. Give Briggs credit, he showed the stuff of a champion by pulling that out when he could barely stand
F*** that.. Neither of those guys deserve any credit they were both in terrible shape and just went through the motions for 11 rounds.. Briggs didn't have to dig down for S***, and the fact that he could barely stand up is pathetic considering he probably threw a combined total of 30 punches through 11 rounds. I would give him credit if he had KOed Sergei in the early rounds like he should have done. Sergei sucks, and so does Briggs. Anyone who was still there in the 12th would have gotten that KO Sergei was soo bad. Briggs is also a joke neither of those guys belonged in a championship fight.
Who did you pick to win?
CC because i dont think any smart gambler woulda put his savings on briggs...and the win is what matters ...but i seriously feel if sergei wasnt tired or scared the whole fight he coulda outworked briggs easily...i think brewster can beat briggs...anyway i just think if he had his heart in it he coulda beat brigs ,but he was scared or choked or somthin
but yes he deserves his credit ,...i dont see much of a future if briggs fights like that against someone like wlad, peters,Toney,or maskaev ..r b-hop for taht matter
Re: I think Sergei Liakhovich was drugged!
I think it would have been more exciting watching paint dry, in high humidity.

so Briggs is a bum and Sergie is still suffering from the Brewster hangover...I don't think Sergie thought he would beat Brewster in the first place....plus he probably made enough to never have to fight again....
Re: I think Sergei Liakhovich was drugged!
I can not believe Liakhovich. Is he just plain ignorant?? He wouldn't listen to his corner at all and just tried at all times to get the belt taken from him. I was really disappointed. Also Juan Diaz (without Showtime commentary) was very ordinary against a very unskilled lightweight.

Are you kidding me... Sergei did no counter punching against Briggs, he may be a counter puncher but he wasn't on saturday... What was Shannon just terrified at the possibility of getting countered for 11 full rounds?? The fact that his mouth was hanging open from the 2nd round on has nothing to do with it?? Face it, both these guys stunk the place out and neither could beat anyone decent unless they dramatically turn their conditioning around and actually fight. I also love how you admit in this thread how open Sergei was and how it should have ended early.. So much to, "give Briggs credit for digging down and beating a champion" huh? THe only way Briggs is ever in an entertaining fight again is if he faces Wlad, Toney, or Peter, and gets his ass whipped.
