I think you underestimate fighters today... Mosley and Dela hoya where both as strong as Duran, and both were faster, and more skilled as fighters... Mosley hasn't been seriously hurt minus the time from the head but, and Oscar wasn't even knocked out by Bernard Hopkins who hits way harder than Duran would have just be sheer size and strength. Also do you remember Esteban De Jesus one of the few ligitimate fighters Duran faced at lightweight? He was floored twice by this guy, and Jesus couldn't hit as hard as Mosley or Oscar at lightweight... Castillo had alot better head movement faster feet, and better timing than Duran when he fought Mayweather also he came in without throwing punches which threw Mayweather off, but Duran would come in with a punch and Mayweather would easily counter him all night.
Re: Mayweather not as good as jones whos kidding who
No, I do not underestimate fighters today. Mosley and Oscar are good but they fight to win on points. Ray and Tommy and Roberto and Marvin went more for the knockouts regardless of consequence and came to fight more in a need for greatness. They just wanted to be great more than the guys now. Duran was very strong and I doubt Mosley is as strong, regardless of his bench press ability. Duran had those feet wide apart, which make him susceptible to being outboxed, but also he was in position to land great right hands and work the body. With Oscar, the jab of Oscar would have given Duran trouble, but I see Roberto roughing up Oscar and testing his chin, and Duran usually wins that test. Duran also was quick on the inside and once he got past Oscar's jab, Oscar would have had a rough night.

When does "going for the knockouts more" make you a greater fighter?
Re: Mayweather not as good as jones whos kidding who
going for the knockout more makes them great since those guys usually got the knockout. And they were exciting and that adds to fighters and their eras-effort means alot. Are you going to tell me that Mosley/Delahoya/Trinidad is as exciting as Leonard/Duran/Hearns and Hagler? The guys in the 80s gave a little more effort I thought and also it helped that they were harder punchers than the guys like Mosley/Oscar, although Tito would have been a great addition in the 80s..

Duran would beat all three of them, you are damn right. Oscar or Mosley being the toughest, probably Mosley but who knows and Floyd being the easiest. Duran was probably the greatest lightweight of all time, and a great boxer and brawler. He is the only man to ever whip a prime SRL for crying out loud! I love Castillo, but Duran was about twice the fighter he is. Roberto Duran would laugh at Mayweather, walk through his punches, slipping them as well, and destroy Floyd.

No your right he didn't win it just by showing up he won it when he whooped Zabs a$ all over the ring. Thats how he got it. :)
And then the IBF felt sorry for Zab and said here keep the belt but go fetch us some money and fight PBF for this piece of shet! belt... :(
Yeah and since Kermit Cintron now holds that belt he is just a shit champion who got handed a meaningless belt. I'm glad we finally agree on something ;)
Yeah! me too. ;)
Is it the end of the world :o
Are him and I.. agreeing :o
I have to put an end to this somehow!!!
um..
um!!!!
BOJADO!!! ;D
Wasn't agreeing with you, was merely mocking you. :)
Zab was 'given' a belt, Cintron had to fight for it.... 2 VERY different things....

If you don't see that Mayweather has improved since Castillo then you haven't seen much in terms of boxing in general... He offense is way, way better... he has better left hook, and most important he now has power behind his cross, and he throws it alot more now. He is less focused on jabbing then moving... Instead he jabs here and there, but he puts more pressure on other fighters. Duran never fought a fast fighter who could actually defend himself and throw smart combinations... Leonard would just shoe shine on the inside which wasn't effective against Duran whereas MAyweather make Duran look like he made Baldomir look like... slugish, slow, and what else you can name. Oscar would have given Duran a very hard time simply because his jab was so solid along with an amazing left hook. Mosley would be the easiest for Duran, but he wouldn't be knocked out, and he might just be too strong for Duran... at 154 he was bench pressing over 300 pounds, and I'm not saying he could hit harder than Duran, but that he would be stronger.

PLEASE. Duran was a legend, and defeated a prime Leonard, who was eons ahead of PBF, who isn't even a true 147. Also no freakin way was Mosley ever bench pressing 300 lbs, thats just nonsense. Dunno where you heard that, but whoever said it is lying. I would be impressed to see Mosley bench press any thing much over 200 lbs, let alone 300. Many guys say they can bench 300, but when it comes down to it, they can't even come close.
Re: Mayweather not as good as jones whos kidding who
ask winky if shane could bench 300..that's nothing...shane actually was closer to 400lbs...and besides a prime light weight shane would KO duran...and whoever said shane was a point fighter is fucking stupid..shane was 35-0 with 32 ko's before he moved up out of his natural weight...shane mosely is among the greatest light weight fighters ever. Had he never moved up he'd be 70-0 or something like that..and i still to this day will stick by my pick as I have for the last year or so..and say that even right now at 34 shane would beat floyd at 147......
Re: Mayweather not as good as jones whos kidding who
if I had to say who was greater? Jones Jr. or Mayweather I would say Jones Jr. Even though he avoided alot of competition, the competition he did face like Toney and Hopkins and Virgil Hill. he beat them easily and well. He had a great speed and that speed with power was impressive. You cannot say the same for Mayweather who piddy pats more and gets his hand hurt. Jones I think was better. Mayweather is more of a amatuer style. Jones put more power into his career.

;D Remember that thing they had right after the super bowl, back in like 2001 or something, where Shane was in it with a bunch of other athletes, and it came time for him to lift weights, and he did not do so well. He sure as hell didn't bench no 300 lbs. Not to be a jerk, but do YOU lift weights? Probably not, because if you did, you would underdtand that 150 lb men, do not normally bench anywhere near 300 lbs, not less they are life long body builders, and olympic champions or some shat.

well, didn't think you were being a jerk..and just cause a man is rumoured to lift 400 pounds doesn't mean that he works out with it...he probably pressed it once or twice..i weigh 142 and can press 265 once, and my chest isn't nearly as thick as shane's...i do however do alot of push-ups....
I think what has happened here is that a lot of people have taken the "shane can bench 400" to mean that he's doing the shit in sets when in fact any guy that i've known or well take me for example if you ask me what do i bench i'll say "265" because i can in fact lift it once, but i actually only do 150 in sets. you see?...

:coolclick: dude, your spot on about Sugar Shane 8)
The thing that gets me though, is why didnt he stay at 135 or at least venture to 140 (which he completely by-passed).
Also with other boxers like for example Mayweather, who IMO, whould be forgiven for not moving up to 147 and instead, opting to unify and maybe dominate at 140. Ive seen him at 147 agianst a natural welter and he's only option (albiet extremely effective) is to run.
Just on a pesonal note, this sucks. These are big guys for Floyd at 147, but the funny thing is who actually regards them as big guys?
Id much rather see him have more exciting bouts at 140.
Roy Jones... If Roy had a Brain cell between his two ears he would of Made the fights with Tarver at Cuiser... He's the draw, the heavier man, the man with everything to loose. WHY did he come all the way back down to 175?!
I suppose what im getting at is i really dont dig fighters who move too far from their optimal weight if it means it detracts from thier peformance.

I am guessing you didn't watch the delahoya-whitaker fight coz if you did the replay clearly showed that whitaker's glove never touched oscar and it was a slip. even the hbo team acknowledged that.
