Re: Marvin Hagler's chin. How would it hold up to Julian Jackson or Nigel Benn.
I tend to agree. Julian punched in someways harder than Mugabi. He seemed to have the punching ability to knock out whoever he hit clean. Remember Buster Drayton? Herol Graham? Terry Norris? Now those guys are not Marvelous Marvin, but it would be interesting to see Julian's punch uncorked on Marvin's chin. It would have been hard to see Marvin Hagler go down like a pole and Julian doing that hand gesture as he was falling, but who knows. Julian was a guy who would hit guys and they wouldn't seem to react. Like he was sort of hitting soft soft soft, and then he would save his knockout punch for the end.

Julian was all but washed up by the time he fought Gerald. By the way, Congratulations for Julian being inducted into the Hall of Fame in Los Angeles a month ago. Gerald was a hard puncher ,but Julian was a guy who literally poleaxed a guy. Is that the right word? What exactly is poleaxed? I have heard that word and it seems to describe Julian's punching.

Jackson didn't have much of a chin, surely none like Haglers. Its a repeat of the Mugabi fight?

Yes congrats to him he was a fine warrior...Power is the last thing to go...Again if anything I would feel comfortable saying they punched almost the same both could end fight at any moment whether it was the 1st minute of roudn 1 or the last minute of round 12.. but I wouldnt give Julian the nod Over Gerald...McClellan was a freak of nature plain and simple

Very well said. I've always liked G-man but nobody hit harder at 160 than Jackson
Re: Marvin Hagler's chin. How would it hold up to Julian Jackson or Nigel Benn.
Julian was a scary puncher. And there are not that many of those. Mugabi was one and so was Julian. Herol Graham was winning the fight and the bomb just took him out cold. And it was not a left or a right for Julian. Either punch would knock a guy out.
Re: Marvin Hagler's chin. How would it hold up to Julian Jackson or Nigel Benn.
Hagler had one of the best chins of all time in any weight division.
I don't think he was ever truly stunned in his career and I can't see Jackson or Benn getting past his underrated defense, never mind stopping or dropping him.
I also think that there's a great deal of revisionism going on about Gerald McClellan. It is sad what happened to the guy, but let's not lose sight of the fact that he did not fight anybody remotely good until Benn (Jackson was never anything more than a big right), it is not that hard to rack up impressive KOs against tomato cans. Yes, he was a good fighter ...... but great - I don't think so.
He was also an unpleasant guy full of bravado, continually calling people out and glorifying in his reputation as a violent, dog-fighing thug who would go to war with anyone who looked at him wrongly.
He picked the wrong guy in Benn, who showed him what a 'tear-up' is really about.
I am definitely not saying he deserved what he got, and I was at that fight. But we need not create some kind of martyred saviour and mourn the loss of one of the greatest fighters of all time ..... because Gerald was neither (IMO).
Re: Marvin Hagler's chin. How would it hold up to Julian Jackson or Nigel Benn.
DId anyone ever knock down Hagler?
Re: Marvin Hagler's chin. How would it hold up to Julian Jackson or Nigel Benn.
Who knows?
Hagler never fought anybody who could hit as hard as Benn, or Jackson for that matter. He hasn't fought a KO artist like Jackson, either, who even surpasses Hearns in that department.
Benn's the hardest-hitting middleweight ever, as well as the most ferocious fighter ever, and had more snap in his punches than the Sibson's and Mugabi's and threw shots from more angles.. Hagler himself said Benn would be his toughest fight if he hadn't retired!
Benn and Hagler would of been fun while it lasted, but Benn's shaky chin would of let him down.

Yeah, Roldan, but I think it was more of a flash knockdown if I remember.
Re: Marvin Hagler's chin. How would it hold up to Julian Jackson or Nigel Benn.
Chris Eubank has the best chin I've ever seen.
Watch Tony Thornton's right hand KO almost all his victims and give him recognition in The Ring in 1987 as the 'next big thing' due to his right hand punch, then watch him land that punch on Eubank and see how Eubank just shrugs it off.. it would of KO'd any other middleweight or super-middleweight in the world. Then watch Joe Calzaghe's left hook KO almost all his victims, amateur and pro, and see Eubank up at the count of one or two with a big grin on his face. Thornton and Calzaghe would land KO punches onto Eubank later in the fight too, violently snapping Eubank's head back only for Eubank to keep shrugging off the effects. Forget about Benn's and Thompson's best bombs.

benn didnt hit as hard as hearns or jackson or gerald and eubank didnt have best chin hagler did and that punch calzaghe landed was more of eubank moving backwards not real devastating blow
