You get action points from betting on fights and buying fighters from the pool, you just want to make sure you have at least 10 at the end of the season to avoid getting penalties.
breakdown:
at the end of the season if you have
10+ action points = you keep all of your bank
9 action points = you keep 90% of your bank
8 action points = you keep 80% of your bank
7 action points = you keep 70% of your bank
6 action points = you keep 60% of your bank
5 action points = you keep 50% of your bank
4 action points = you keep 40% of your bank
3 action points = you keep 30% of your bank
2 action points = you keep 20% of your bank
1 action point = you keep 10% of your bank
0 action points = you lose your bank

The fighters you drafted can be used as stock, you can sell them to make more money and they payout when they fight. I am trying desperately to get a list of when all the fighters fight next, but it's a bear.
so right now if there is a fighter you see that you don't want in your stable you can sell them to increase your bank.

mate I' am starting to think this game is marketable to a broader audience. You should start thinking about designing this game to accomodate real coin on a bigger scale. You we could get rich off this ;D of course you would need a hand ;)
