He beat Briggs because Briggs was a fatso who hadn't hit bottom yet. Even now Briggs is doing himself a disservice by being too big. You're trying to convince me this is a legit fight based on fighters who beat fighters--ALL THOSE GUYS AREN'T IN THE RING. Clifford Etienne has been a bum for years. Monte Barret won against a Dominick Guinn who USED to have promise.
Nikolai Valuev is the champion NOW. The time is NOW for a CHAMPION to be fighting top ten fighters, not wowing us with his size. Champions should only be fighting elites or other champions. Klitschko is fighting again in March; that could have easily been Valuev in the ring with him. Fighting McCline will prove NOTHING on the road to a Klitschko. Other than height they are absolutely nothing alike. Don King is afraid of losing his champion.
He is trying to break Marciano's 49-0 record and then he will step it up....Maybe ;D

Please. Valuev is not in Klitschko's league and he will get smoked. Klitschko will not have to reach up like Barrett did to pull the trigger; it won't look like he's trying to dunk a rim when he punches Valuev in the chin.
Under Steward Klitschko is much too smart for Valuev who doesn't hit as hard as he looks like he can. But Klitschko's power is undeniable and while neither fighter has been in with an opponent of the other's height, Klitschko has felt that kind of power, whereas Valuev hasn't.
Jab-straight and Valuev will sleep soundly on the cargo plane that takes him back home.

Maybe but whos gonna know that in twenty years when the record still stands? Can many people name all of Marcianos opponents today? Twenty years from now people will just see the record and think 'WOW he must have been amazing, the best fighter ever' Clearly hes not but you get over 50 wins no losses it looks nice on paper no matter who youre against.
Also it annoys me when people say hes only good because of his size - maybe but so what? Thats like saying someone else is only good because of their speed or their strength, obviously any boxer will want to make use of his best attribute and Valuevs is his size.
Re: Valuev he ain't no joke!
Valuev looks better with each fight....take it how ever...
Re: Valuev he ain't no joke!
I dont know if it was the music but that video had me laughing like a mad man.
Re: Valuev he ain't no joke!
Anyyone else think Peter would kill Valuev? Huge target and Valuev never even bothers to use his reach advantage.

HHM.. 115-113 & 117-112?, sounds like a fairly decisive win.
Clifford Etienne was good enough to fight Brock who fought for the HW championship against Klitschko, another stiff i suppose?
John Ruiz?? What? 12 title fights? suppose he's no good either? or was that really another "BAD WIN" for Valuev?
Owen beck @ 25-2?? another bum? Just had a
split decision loss
(One judge had it 115-113 for Beck)
to Ray Austin who everyone seems to think is all that.
Monte Barrett?? Win over Dominic Guinn and 12 round decision loss to Rahman?? a "BUM" too?? or another "phony" win for the giant??
Whats the guy gotta do to earn
SOME respect??
Jameel McCline has wins over Lance Whitaker, and some guy named Shannon Briggs....oh ya he's the current WBO Heavyweight Champion of the world!!, oh ya and Wladamir Klitschko took 10 rounds to get Jameel out of there! HE went 12 and then 10 with Byrd and Brock as well. So Jameel has some credentials.
Will Valuev's win over him mean anything?? Maybe its some kind of conspiracy?? to give freaky big men phony wins??
Ya gotta give the guy
some props!
If he beats McCline and you still say he's a bum. Then your an Idiot
Larry Donald: I noticed you typed "115-113 & 117-112?,
sounds like a fairly decisive win". Did you even see the fight? I doubt you did.
Clifford Etienne: So just cuz Etienne fought Brock, that makes him good? Repeat that S*** out loud and tell it don't sound moronic
John Ruiz: A lot of people (including Ring magazine) had Ruiz winning the fight
Owen Beck: Never ever use a "split decision loss" to Ray Austin as a good thing again. You should be F****** embarrassed.
Monte Barrett: A decent fighter who was coming off a non-effort lost to Rahman. Also a fighter who's not a puncher and stands 9 inches shorter than Valuev. I'm not impressed
Jameel McCline: Just might be boxing's softest fighter. Didn't he lose to Zuri Lawrence, not to long ago? Yeah Zuri Lawrence, the muthafucka with 0 knock outs on his record. Yet you think he's a good fighter.
Damn this was to F****** easy. Anyway, you want Valuev to get some credit. Tell him to go fight Wladimir Klitschko, Samuel Peter, James Toney or Calvin Brock. Hell I'll even settle for Oleg Maskaev or Hasim Rahman. Anybody but used up bums like McCline and Beck. If anything what the F*** is he doing fighting McCline anyway? Ruslan Chagaev is the number one contender. He should be fighting him.
???
Larry Donald - A win. please notice the spelling..
if you add a "H" and an "E" it becomes a "whine" which is what your doing about Larry's loss
Ettiene- WBA figured he deserved a shot at the WBA Inter Continental Championship, but what the hey, doesn't everyone get that? and after all what does the WBA know about boxing anyway?
Ruiz- Oh ya, falling back on the "he didn't "REALLY" win that win" argument. sorry.....valuev beat him. plain and simple.
Beck- The Austin fight, the close split decision was for the IBF #2 spot! Oh let me guess..the IBF are morons too??
Barrett- His last fight a decision Loss to Rahman (one of you picks for Valuev to prove himself against) was for the WBA championship!
Of course hes not a puncher, hence no KO's in his record (huh?? what?? 17?? KO's?) oh ya and the name TWO GUNS cuz he can hit with eitherhand
oh ya your not impressed cuz hes shorter than valuev. HEY buddy WAKE UP!
every fighter in the f#ckin world is shorter than Valuev!
McCline -was good enough to give a 12 round go to Byrd the longest belt holder in recent record. Fight was for the IBF championship and went to a split decision!
Fighters earn credibility based on who they have fought. That is self evident. If fighter “A” fights fighter “B” and you say that fighter “A” is great. Then if I fight fighter “B” with a similar or better outcome, I earn some credibility. Obviously all fighters can't all fight at the same time. Hence the “NOW” is impossible without a STAR TREK holodeck.
You say Valuev will get some credit if he fights certain fighters who you name
Klitschko,Peter,Toney,Brock,Maskaev,Rahman and finally the #1 contender Chagaev.
These fighters have earned credibility in your opinion. HOW? By who they have fought in their careers of course!
Lets see.
Klitschko – Fought McCline & Barrett!
Toney – Just fought Ruiz for WBA/IBA belt last year!
Brock – Just fought Zuri Lawrance! WWOOO!!! Oh and McCline
Rahman- Monte Barrett, a lose to Ruiz and a loss to Holyfield who was just beaten by Larry Donald
Get it?? Donald just Beat Holyfield who beat Rahman (remember Valuev beat Donald!)
Maskeav? Last title fight against Peter Okhello! Now there’s a credibility building fight!
Maskeav lost to Lance Whitaker who McCline beat!
And the clincher?? Chagaev..who did he beat to “solidify” his #1 Contender ranking???
Ruiz!!! The guy Valuev just beat!!
You cant look back on 44 wins and say over and over “oh they weren't real wins” or make some other excuse, thats just stupid.
The guys that Valuev has beaten have over 600 combined wins!
He’s got wins against some top guys. Guys who have been in with the very best. Again. I’m not saying he’s the best in the world.
All I'm saying is “VALUEV IS NO JOKE”
Re: Valuev he ain't no joke!
All joking aside, It would be a tougher fight for Wlad then most people think, But I think Wlad would take him around the late-mids.

Wlad would destroy Valuev. He would play with him he is so much the better fighter. All be it his chin aint great, but you cant hurt what you cant hit!

I couldn't agree more...Good Post
Re: Valuev he ain't no joke!
I would just like to remind everyone that although Larry Donald went 10 rounds with Vitali but Vitali knocked him out....THAT my friends is a DECISIVE WIN
Nicolay Valuev is a fraud he's a 7 foot tall 325 pound OAF and if he EVER fought a top teir heavyweight he'd be mauled!!!
Re: Valuev he ain't no joke!
I like Valuev...he may not be the real deal, but he ain't no fraud either...
He is not that skilled, but gets better with each fight...
For someone, who is that big, he has a pretty crappy punch, but it was enough for 33ko's in 45 wins...
And he seems always good, maybe even great conditioned(at least from the 4 fights I've seen, that went
over a longer distance 9+...),especially considering his size...

Yeah would really like to see that one...would be a real test for Valuevs chin...
Valuevs biggest problem is,that he is far too easy to hit and you are absolutely right that he doesn't
use his reach...
Don't know if Peter would win,but could be...
Re: Valuev he ain't no joke!
well, i am not gonna say he's a joke, that's for sure. i think that given his ridiculous size, he's not that bad. he has pretty decent movement, considering he takes up the entire ring. as far as people thinking that he has chin issues, it's hard to say. the chin is a pretty weak area on most people anyway, and with the exception of the biggest heavies, nobody else can reach above his chin so he probably takes more shots to the chin than normal. for his size, it seems stamina is very good. and for his power, i don't think he lacks in power at all. i know, i'm one of the few, but if you've actually paid attention to his fights you must see the same things i do. i think he uses as much power as he needs to, plain and simple. he throws a lot of lazy punches, but then out of nowhere he will fire off a hard one. seems to me, at his size, he probably feels he has less to prove than a smaller fighter. he doesn't need to try and tear people's heads off to be effective and win fights. i could be wrong and that's ok, but i think when he finally steps up he will surprise people with a better showing. also, just a question. people accuse him of ducking competition, but other than seeing wlad say that he would possibly be interested in a match with valuev, has anyone seen any other verifiable interest or desire to fight him? i'm not being a wiseass or anything, i'm just wondering because it doesn't seem there is exactly a line of people wanting to fight him at the moment. maybe he's not ducking people and padding his stats quite as much as it would seem. maybe the only reason he is fighting so man "has beens" and never will be" types of guys is because they have nothing to lose and everything to gain in a fight with him.
