Duran is no doubt better than Hatton, and would certainly win because he was better in all phases, but he was not light years better in all phases. He is light years ahead in terms of greatness, and I think people on this board let that incorrectly influence how they see a fight like this playing out. Duran's resume has nothing to do with him actually getting in the ring and fighting. Each fighter can simply take one fight at a time, and it only matters what happens on that given night. I think people also need to realize that if magically 20 of these hypothetical fights between all time hall of famers and current top p4p fighters took place, I'm willing to bet that many on this board feel as if the all time greats would win all 20, but in reality it would probably split somewhere near 10-10. Just as people always defend all time greats as saying they trained the same way as current fighters so science and nutrition of today would not help today's fighters, you need to realize the same is true for the opposite. Fighters of today train just as fighters of yesterday, and all time greats hold no advantage either. They simply hold the illusion over some fans that they're for some reason untouchable by today's fighters, and it's ridiculous.
Good post.
Let's turn this on it's head for a second:-
Prime Kostya Tszyu V Duran?
Kostya by KO i think even though Duran is a bad ass.

No offence Gomez and I'm not taking anything away from Tszyu, Tszyu was stopped by Phillips and Hatton NO WAY in a million years would Tszyu KO Duran, Duran has only been stopped once in his entire carreer and that was when he was past his best.
Tszyu would never beat Duran let alone stop him, Duran wins by TKO round 10 or 11.
Re: Ricky Hatton-Roberto Duran at Jr. Welterweight
Duran would have ko'd kostya without a doubt .
Re: Ricky Hatton-Roberto Duran at Jr. Welterweight
this would be a good match up. meaning style wise we would see an all out slugfest. and there was no one better or tougher than roberto duran ive watched alot of durans fights and the guy was an animal. im a big fan of hatton also. this would be a great fight and the people out there who say duran would steamroll hatton are wrong hattons tougher than people think. never the less i would still pick duran to win but not by knockout you would have to kill both fighters to stop them literally kill them. i hope people who say on here that duran would kill hatton have seen durans fights and are not just goin on the fact durans an all time great so there for he must be able to kill hatton its stupid. yes hatton had a bad night against collazo theres no doubt. but ive seen duran fights where he has had bad nights also. i dont think tho you can judge this properly until hattons finished his career and seen what he has accomplished. then you can judge it properly. hatton could one day achieve the greatness he so desperately strives for. and at the minute the mans 41 and 0 and counting. all im sayin is i would pick duran by descision on this present day. but maybe we have to wait and see what hatton goes on and accomplishess. before we can compare properly. PEACE.
Re: Ricky Hatton-Roberto Duran at Jr. Welterweight

I understand what your saying and you have a point. But it still don't change the fact that Duran would destroy Hatton. Easily
Re: Ricky Hatton-Roberto Duran at Jr. Welterweight
Good post Skyler..and Duran Hatton would have been awesome but I just think Duran was the better overall fighter, had slightly better power and just was well better than Hatton in most departments. and no fooking way would Tszyu KO Duran,no way..
Re: Ricky Hatton-Roberto Duran at Jr. Welterweight
Only one possible result. Duran wins by KO...

I think this one goes to the cards with Hands of Stone taking a close decision over Hatton due to his very slight edge in mostly every round..more so toward the end of the fight.
This would be one of the greatest mismatches in boxing history....and Duran would be in jail for murder!!

I agree. Duran is probably the greatest lightweight of all time. At just one class above, he would stomp the shit out of Hatton. It would be interesting for probably one or two rounds then Hatton gets worked over and KOed.

You have a point,
but amongst other fighters I also have everysingle Duran fight on DVD apart from the 2 against Paz and 1 or 2 others.
Once again Duran by KO - NO DOUBT ABOUT IT.

I'd actually go with Hatton in the one ! great action fight. Never seen Hatton even close to quitting ;)
Re: Ricky Hatton-Roberto Duran at Jr. Welterweight
I remember an old out of condition Duran Sparring with a fit Nigel Benn whose orders from the management were to KO Duran who was drinking a bottle of whiskey a day at the time, and that backfired, he did things that made you smile. You were in the pressence of a master
Re: Ricky Hatton-Roberto Duran at Jr. Welterweight
Firstly Duran is probably p4p in the top 5 or 6 fighters the world has ever seen.
I have little doubt he would beat Ricky Hatton convincingly, but really p1sses me off when you get clueless whelks like Lawhoops still slating Hatton. He had a bad night and was ill prepared at 147, but he still won (Just). Have you ever seen Duran V Kirland Laing!! Fighters have bad nights! Hatton has had 1 bad night in over 40 fights, where he has barely lost a round in his career and forced a legend to quit on his stool. He may not be Roberto Duran, but who is!!

Never seen Hatton fight someone of the calibre of SRL tho, who could frustrate you to the point of quitting.
