One...No official or in depth articles or fact has come about what toney tested postive for during the ruiz fight. But at the end of the day fwok it...He beats ruiz all over...
And if were totally honest..People hate ruiz cos he's a prat as a person..And he hugs too much..
Not because he's a terrible fighter..He has actually at least fought the good competition and beaten some good names..
2. Rahman lost that fightif you ask me..
And further more at the end of the day its no excuse but toney beats rahman ud right now..
He beat himself in that fight..You saw how bad a shape he was in..
All he failed at was wieght..He got tired and sat on the ropes and countered cos he got tired..
And if they fought in the shape toney was in last fight..
Rahman looses bad
3.He's STOPPED...Evander holyfield..Doesnt matter how old holyfield was only toney and moorer stopped evander and he's been in with lennox, tyson, bowe.. the lot
4.Beaten booker..Looked good there..You can argue bookers no good but competition is competition when your a freakin middleweight in the heavyweight division.
5.Toney won the first fight..Was way closer then everyone says in the second..But thats too be expected when your rabbit punched silly and peter nicks off with your rounds..
So what is everyone else in the heavyweight division doing to earn your respect?
Have you just emptied it all on toney..And now you have nothing but praize for vlad maskaev, valuev etc?
Re: BIG Issues with Toney-Peter II
First. Thanx for the youtube posts of teh fight, dont know why i couldnt find em....Oh ya....cuz im STUPID.
Just watched em all scored the fight as I went.
Remember I had toney winning Rahman and Peter I
Toney didnt look really fat. But he didn't look any better either, and the pace that he fought at SHOWED he was not in good enough shape to fight
I had it like this
toney peter
9 10
8 10 (Al bernstien had this round 9-10 as kdown was a push/slip)
10 9 2 big rights by toney
10 9 Toney won all round Peter flurried at end
9 10 EZ peter
10 10 close maybe peter as 2 judges had it
9 10 good fight sofar its 65-68
9 10 Toney wobbled with L hook Peter started and finish strong
9 10 Peter follows toney one good punch with 10 in reply
9 10 toney rocked 8 punchh flurrt by peter ez round
9 10 toneys wife is a mutt, Does she have nice t1ts?
9 10 getting repetative Toney not doing enough peter swarms
9 10 ali shuffle!
Final 110-118 A good fight for Peter
Peter really improved. Erased the dispute about the first fight.
Came in better shape. Toney didn't do himself any favors here at all and the post fight yapping made it worse.
To quote Al bernstein "Peter is on the cuz of becomeing a really complete fighter which many people felt previously was not possible"
and
"Peter showed the world that he is better for the HW division than James Toney"
I fully agree.

But i do not make excuse for any fighter without legitimate reason..I wont make up crap to say why my man lost... But i got some issues with sam peter here....
First point.. Sam looked great in the first round..I mean heavyweights are known for bieng slow and flat footed ..But he impressed me something crazy with some very niec jabs early..
One thing i did notice which was very very nice is he was throwing two or three at a time..AND stepping in with the jabs looked very nice and was effective..So with sam's opening props out of the way.. Lets begin..
This whole rabbit punching thing is a big issue for me.. Toney leans..and that sometimes invites punches to the side of the head.. and leaves him open for shots behind the ear whether intentional or not..
But sam peter really took the piss in this fight..When hes leant right to his side fine..Thrw your punches overhand or not and it doesnt matter where they land..Although in all fairness..Better to stay with hooks and uppercuts..But when they are folded over and your giving them big overhand rights purposely on the back of the head..That becomes F****** ridiculous.. No wonder he started to gas out and was wobbled those punches should never have hit him there..
Also i was mad at the knockdown..Not at the ref or at peter..But damn it was a jab and he only went over because he was flat footed and he feet werent placed properly.
I noticed even when he did get hurt with these illegal punches early that he was still slick as he had always been so i dont see him bieng shot from there...
Round 3 now...All toney he looked good man..took it to peter for at least two minutes of the round..
Nice snappy one two's.
Round 4..Close..I gave it to toney..They were standing flat..3 from toney 3 back from peter..2 from peter..two from toney.. jabs here and there from both..But for the best part of the last minute it was toney beating sam to the punch n throwin jabs..If this round went to peter..It was that flurry at the end..Which appeared to have peter getting the best..although toney was still throwing.. But the way i score..I wouldnt have given peter that round..
5..Alot of messy trading..Another thing sam does is he pushes the head back with an open glove..
Now that is not right..he often was palming the face back and setting up those overhand illegal punches many landing on the ear and back of the head..
But round to peter.. i had it even most of the round until peter landed more and cleaner single shots at the end..so i would have to score it peter..But not convincing as a fan that he had james' number.
6.Peters round..nice punches..Again..Tha t's james..James wasnt busy enough and gave it away..Although looked busyer in the last minute..Still not enough without any genuinely clear shots to steal it.
7. Toney. Kept his jab going pretty nicely few right hands..a fair few good three punch combo's which we've seen toney throw in the past..In particular against holyfield..The right hand the two left hooks body head or head body.. Those were nice..A good long clinch for somethin like 15-20 secs of the last minute toney kept his jab going..Round doesnt get stolen.
8.Big left hook by peter and good strait punches follow early..But..In all fairness..Both werent very active..and if you ask me..Toney was more active from the second minute to the last 30 or 20 seconds..Easily disputed so no anger at the judges either wat..I say toney. But sam got some clean shots and even showed some handspeed in the last twenty secs..
9.I have it even..This i feel was theyr round off.. Both throwing sloppy jabs.. sam looking a little busyer..
but james i feel tried to steal it with some fairly nice punches at the end..Couple of nice counter fights and taunts.. pretty even. james
10.Cleaner shots in the first minute..Output about the same though..
Stolen in the middle by a suprising showing of attitude by peter and a sudden short second wind...
Toney looked good for the last 30..But that was peter's round no question.
At this point im going to mention dan rafael's card..All ten rounds to peter.. this the showtime press row card..Message for dan..Your an idiot ;) ::**
11.Slow even round... Peter flurried late and that probably stole it.. I probably give it to peter myself.
12.Slow for the mid part..Sam only really threw two meaningful combo's a couple of hooks followed by an overhand right that missed and hit himself in the thigh..And landed a one two..
The rest was just jabs from sam..Toney had about the same output more right hands and a few more hooks on the inside..
Sam looked like a tit.. Good jabs though..But ten seconds doesnt take the round.
12 To Toney.
So tally em up...
7 Rounds to 5.
115-112
Sam Peter..
The whole point in this is not to say that toney won..
Its to say that toney got a raw deal in the scoring and that i dont think he is shot..
Styles make fights and peter got safely through two fights to secure his title shot..
But Aside from this fight..Who in the heavyweight division beats James Toney..
Sam peter and likely that vlad does too...
There are four belts and a bunch more names to take..
I would like to see James keep working at getting in shape and hope that his ego is still gona keep him in the game.. I truely hope he hasnt been discouraged by this..
Amongst the names and titles that are still out to be taken..Toney still can make it big and take the heavyweight title he should already have... Im not sure his legacy is quite fulfilled yet..
Also..James might last a little better and look a little better against other fighters that dont rabbit punch :P ;) ;D
Bodyhead.
:coolclick: Excellent analysis. Although I haven't seen the fight yet, you seem to be on point with other posters. Can't wait to see the fight.

Just don't expect to agree with 115-112 unless you have been hitting a crack pipe.. I love TOney and would give him every round I felt close enough to, but he didn't win more than 3. Peter owned him.
Re: BIG Issues with Toney-Peter II
Nerr im not having none of this crack pipe crap that people hit me with..
Toney was far less then owned..
He lost..Fair and square?..Sort of..
But people score fights differently and that fight was most definately scored on power rather then busyness...
Maybe some should watch the fight in slowmo..?
Re: BIG Issues with Toney-Peter II
For me the first 2 rounds made it a mountain for Toney to climb, he lost the fight fair and square but as you say, he most clearly was not "owned" or even "dominated". After a poor start Toney was competitive in a large number of close rounds which Peter was able to steal with his late flurries and by impressing the judges with his power.
Toney was outworked, but he is not a shot fighter. I want to see Toney back in action very soon and with this fitness regime continuing...
Re: BIG Issues with Toney-Peter II
Tito...My man though I understand your points...and they are valid to an extent...you are over looking some things.....IMO you are letting your judgement as a fan cloud you....
1. Rabbit Punches--Illegal yes..but we all know it is one of Peters flaws....it is Toneys job to make sure he does not put himself in a position to recieve the shots....EG. If you know a guy throws straight rights all night you dont keep your left low while circling to your right....In honesty Toney at times ask for the rabbit punches by going down so low knowing how Peter throws his punches...Does that excuse them no but this is boxing not everything is fair and square..and Unless Peter intentionally throw to the back of the head after Toney is bent down then it is just one of those things that happen
2. Say what you want about the knockdown I agree it was due to Toney being off balance...Especially since Toney did not fall to some thunderous rights that hit him square...The jab was not going to do the job...But!!!!.....It only shows Toney is slipping...Since when does James allow himself to be off balance like that...It can happen to anyone but Toney is not Anyone....He is a master in that ring...Such a mistake is made by rookies not legends...
3. Reguardless of everything else...James could not fight at a steady pace...He made tooo many mistakes...At times he was dejected it was obvious in his face after landing Right hands that would have ended almost anyone elses night
4. Toney has not had a real quality win for quite some time...
5. This one is the most important.....Even though James is a defensive great. Even though he blocks most shots by his opp or rolls with them....You can not just go in there and be on the defensive all night. That id not what a fighter does to win. It does not mean all is well because you can go and absorb punishment all night and avoid the big shots....
Toneys time has come. If he keeps this up he will end up going out in a bad way....Not a decision loss either...The only one who doesnt know James should retire is You and James....Whats left for him? Mediocre wins against jobbers?...I think he is better than that?
Re: BIG Issues with Toney-Peter II
Apreciate you taking the time for the reply daxx my man....
As far as the rabbit punches go.. I cant sway on that point..I'll allow myself to admit wrongs on some parts... And when i watch boxing i really watch.. I dont jump around a shout i study and sit silent...
But when peter threw those shots i was going nuts.. There was about five in a row.. Made me crazy lol
I think the fight finally got to toney..He knew and knows that sam Peter is mustard.
And sam worked that jab like money in the first..Got off some nice ass shots late in the first..
And james started to get dragged into the wrong fight..He squared up to peter like he might have been able to do in the first fight with a more stationary peter and sam was looking wonderful stepping with his strait shots...
He got behind ...But once he did get behind the limelight was on sam..And he attracted the scores from about the second round onwards...Was it the 3rd or 4th where toney started lookin like a bad man with some nice one two's? ...He totally took one of those rounds and people like rafael still had him ten rounds to nil after ten...Proposterous imo..
But what can we really say..
Its no ones falt that wasnt in that ring... Sam may have knocked him loopy with rabbit shots...
Still James has been there before..So lets skip that one..
James didnt get off first and show who's boss..Or work effectively enough to catch the eye..
And what else..I aint ashamed to say that sam peter looked like absolute money that night...
I am still looking for james to keep doing his thing though... I dont think he's done...
He still has a chin..He has the ability to keep up the good training and look bigger and bigger...
And if he does it right.. I personally see him beating maybe everyone but sam and vlad...
Some have laughed at me saying so..But im serious... James has never been Truely dominated and i dont think he ever will be... I sure worry about fighters health but im always safe in the knowledge that james is a tough ass man.. I say..Pick a big name.. Lets see how My man do next fight round...
And maybe..Maybe i'll admit its time to hang em up...But i always got hope for james..
Peace
Re: BIG Issues with Toney-Peter II
Toney was ranked #4 by ring magazine and Valuev was #8.
NOW Valuev is #4 and Toney is #8.
Face it TITO_HBH. Toney is the past! VALUEV is the future!
Ring Magazine proves it!
P.S. Peter is #2 so he is is the future too. At least till Valuev makes him "history"

Valid points my man valid points......Like I said I don't excuse the rabbit punches but also like I said if you know a guy has the tendency then do your best to avoid them.....
(I know it is one of Sam's flaws but it comes with in experience...I honestly do not think it is an intentional thing on Peter's behalf)
EG. Holyfield is notorious for the head when fighting on the inside....Try not to get on the inside if possible?....Thats all I was trying to say
As for James being shot...Can he still hang with most of those guys? Probably but then again let's think about the quality of most of the HWt's....
I think we or at least I judge Toney so harshly and say he is in such decline because he was such a great fighter and has struggled with guys who are ordinary?

I think there is a mix of opinions of the heavyweight division today...
Because there have been great great fighters at heavyweight..And to the casual boxing fans thats the division everyone wants to see and recognises people from...
And now there are no prime holyfields tysons and lewis's people say the division is shit...
And it is a real tone lower then a few years previous...
And although i hate some of the names out there today...
It has to be said that fighters like ruiz rahman and maskaev etc are fairly good fighters..All either world champs or have been previously...
Rahman is dangerous enough to know not to back off with your hands down against...
Ruiz you should know he could hug and steal his way to a decision win..And yess..He is terrible to watch..But hes fought some names no doubt..He beat valuev if you ask me..Galota holyfield rahman..
Maskaev ..Well ..He has heart shall we say...He's an alright fighter and has heart to win a title at 37 odd...
But the names out there are name amazing but they are plenty acceptable knowing that james would fight any of them...
I think james is capable of finally securing a world title before he goess... But Ive not a clue when how or if it will happen...
He is like the Big version of duran kind of...Fighting is what toney does...
Duran fought way past his prime cos he had mouths to feed..And its what he knew...
James is in a strange struggle for a legacy and if frankly too tough for his own good...
I dont know if anyone can or ever will stop james toney..And he might need to be before he decides to hang em up...lol
Peace

Seriously, what I'm saying Is that Boxings is a form of Entertainment. After boring NC against Ruiz (with a steroid scandel which is big in the public eye due to baseball)
a draw vs Rahman who's now out of the picture after his second KO loss to Maskaev who everyone seems to think is the diovision "soft touch" and now the 2 losses to Peter (one legit).
James Toney is not someone that the general public wants to see. He can not be the guy to carry the HW banner. The bad guy "I don't resect nobody" image might be Ok when your winning,go 0-4 and you just look like a punk. So that's what I mean by Toney is the past. The bus to superstardom came buy and TONEY MISSED IT!
Here's a partial quote..
By Tom Donelson
On January 6th, 2007, a great career ended. James Toney has been one of boxing’s greats over the past two decades. When ..........etc,etc.
notice the use of the words ENDED and also HAS BEEN
That raises the question of who is on the horizion to capture the empty spotlight? Here's another interesting quote..
Damn I coundn't find it....anyway it was saying that if Valuev goes on to beat Rocky's record and King can market him as The Beast. that there wouldn't be stadiums big enough to hold all teh people who would want to see him....unfortunatly it said people who would wantto see him...GET BEAT!
the point was that he is rising in interest in the public eye.
As is Samuel Peter after his win and refreshing post fight interview.
I mentioned Valuev beating Peter jsut to get ya goin! lol
Valuev wuill have his hands full with McCline.
