He changed the landscape but the dispicable things he did are never talked about....doesn't make Joe Frazier feel better, George Foreman is just resiliant he calls Ali his hero and the best boxer he's ever fought.....inspite of being mocked by "the greatest"
Why is a lack of humiliaty all of a sudden a great trait as soon as Ali rolls around????
If that's the case then Jack Johnson is the greatest! Or "I'll lick any man in the room" John L Sullivan!
Or if Draft dodging is what makes a great then Jack Dempsey is the best!!!

Come on Lyle, you know Ali is so much more then that. The draft wasn't so much about saving his own ass as it was making a statement and it was a HUGE statement at that. One of the most important statements of the war. It wasn't some hippie putting a peace sign on the flag, it was the world champion giving the government the finger when they needed it.
And everyone knows Ali belittled his opponents. It was borderline cruel some of the stuff he did, especially carrying on an old Patterson with a bad back but it's part of what makes Ali what he is. No one is going around saying Ali is the definition of sportsmanship. He was a fast talking young black Muslim who probably belonged in a straight jacket. That's what everyone loves about him. He was a rebel with a cause if you will. Not to mention the guy was a wonder in the ring.

My pal took him to dinner in the west end, to a top eattery and booked the table not mentioning who his partner was this place has had all the world Superstars eat there. They got a cab from the Hilton to Leicster sq the driver wouldnt take anything, saying wait till I get home and tell the wife. When they got to the restuarant the head waiter, had a look of I dont believe this. As they walked to there table the whole place stood up and gave him a standing ovation the matra said thats the first time that, anything like that had ever happened in there. they moved them to a corner table, really looked after them, again wouldnt take payment when they left. The taxi had waited outside where a crowd had gathered took them back to the Hilton and wouldnt take payment. My mate said it was the cheapest night out hed had in the westend

George Foreman loves what America did for him....he would have been just a thug instead of a gold medal winner/multiple time heavyweight champion/entreprenure without the help of the Job Corps which got him involved in boxing
