Re: The classic, textbook 1-2-3-4
I like to classify the right hook (for us orthodox fighters) as a haymaker (and I've heard that mentioned on here before). As I am new to this boxing thing, I still am a bit sloppy when it comes to sparring. In the middle of combinations, when I have someone up on the ropes, I find myself coming in with the right "haymaker." Its definatly not a straight right, not a right uppercut, not a "looping" right, or an "overhand" right. Resembles a right hook, but not near enough to be considered a hook. It might be sloppy, but when used in the right situation when the opponant has no chance of countering, watch out, its a hard punch ;).
Re: The classic, textbook 1-2-3-4
this is what I call them to. Haymakers. so, that combo I landed was: left haymaker, right haymaker, uppercut. :D

Ahah..Then to you sir.. There is a left hook..For southpaws.. ;)
I guess the point to be breif without getting too deep into it is its extremely hard to throw an orthadox right hook at a opponent or sparring partner.. As its either in weird circumstance or not a hook..
Long story lol..
what if ur opponent jabs and u slip to the right! that would set u up for a nice right hook to the head or u could weave right a let go a right hook to the body.....why not?

If you slipped to the inside..Which is where you slip to.. Then its likely any right hand you threw would be an overhand..Kinda bernard hopkins esque lol..
If it were a textbook right hook then your arms would get tangled up or not reach theyr head..Unless you were a fair bit taller then them.. In which case you wouldnt be slipping the jab..
I think the only real way to have it be a hook it to be stood litterally toe to toe..And even then its rather awkward i imagine.. lol
Peace

ok cool,i throw a right hook on the bag,but now that i think of it its always the last punch in the combo, never the first. Its easy to throw a right hook on a stationary bag,but like you say, in combat its an akward punch to pull off, unless you throw 1-2-3-4, straight left-straight right, left hook ,right hook, but if executed corectly your opponent is likly to be on there a$$ by the left hook...but i know what you mean, its a difficult punch to execute and feel akward cause you lead with your left foot and there for puts you off balance......
..im pretty sure tyson clocked thomas with a right hook, among the rest of the punishment he dished out....peace :)

You could have never even boxed before... never even made a fist... or be a world champion... either way you don't get any privileges or excemptions on here. Let's just leave it at that. ;)
Re: The classic, textbook 1-2-3-4

Dont worry about it my brother..
Your never to old to start my friend.. You could pick it up in a jiffy..Especially if your a boxing fan...
I used to train a bunch of kids who were healthy young lads but its so much harder to get them to understand how to box when they never really watched boxing.. so they didnt understand a great deal..
I also know a lad at our gym whos about 24 and he just had his first amatuer fight last week..
Im gaggin to have my first bout and i want to fight alot once the fights come but i never have any intention of turning pro.. Just want to do it for an amatuer career..
Peace

I have never had trouble landing four straits in sparring.. I tend to bend my knee's and come up with the strait rights though..and its pretty speedy to so im not to bad... Have to move forward with the punches though..Bck em up..
I understand though.. More then three punches are hard to get off..
But i tend to lean in with jabs or fients to set up the combo im really looking for..
In example.. I'll feint step forward.. Back onto the ball of the right foot..And the push of with a strait left uppercut.. To lift the chin and follow through with the right hand..
( If you dont catch my drift about the uppercut..Its basically a jab thrown with your fist faced like an uppercut.. but strait and fast like a jab to the chin..For the sole purpose of lifting the chin and following through with a right hand..)
And the step in with a quick jab so that my wieght is very briefly on the front foot push back onto my back foot and whether they have thrown or have opted not to..Soon after there can usually come the opportunity to push of the back foot in with a speedy one two..One two three or one two left hook if im lucky...
Peace
nice lil thing to bad thigs dnt work out the way u want them to and combos getintuupted by counters and the oher guys movement
