Re: Is Ricky "Hugger" Hatton the new John Ruiz?
Hatton looked good the first half of the fight and didn't in the second half of the fight. Hatton fought a guy that's a basic come forward fighter, for god sakes, I saw the Ben Rabah-Urango fight on ESPN FNF, and I thought Rabah exposed Urango already. Hatton did it for the belt and he got it. Now he's got his big match with JLC that won't sell like everyone thinks it will because Hatton's boring as shit and Vegas still hates JLC for not making weight. If they think they are filling Thomas and Mack, they are fucking idiots. Hatton isn't gonna be a star over here in the US with that shit style of his so he should make the big fights that matter where he IS a star like Hatton-Witter. In fact, Hatton is the most boring fighter to watch on the P4P list. People are still so sore over never getting JLC-Corrales 3 that it's ruined JLC's career, well, he should have tried to make Corrales-JLC III @ 140 instead of fighting Hatton.

HE WAS NOT HUGGING HE WAS HITTING THEN TIEING URANGO UP THERES A BIG DIFFRENCE!!!!
hatton nulified everything urango who is a massive 140 guy tryed last night he won 119-109 in probably the biggest points win of his carrer, last year after the collazo fight most haters were saying that hatton can only fight one way and there was no plan b, but last night hatton showed he had very good skill's in the ring and isnt just a brawler.
big shout to matty hatton too, he should be fighting for a british tile this year after his good showing last night.
No thats where you are WRONG!!!!! Tieing up is when you are on the inside fighting and need a break so you hold for a second to get the seperation from the ref and start over again at a distance......Hatton threw a punch then grabbed on....You could see him reaching in to hold a few times...That is HOLDING!!!!!!!........Once it is done over and over and over again you can't try to say it is a tie up

One punch, step in,hold. A textbook John Ruiz strategy. Make the fight as boring as possible. From round 6 on he committed to a plan of wasting as little time as possible with all that "punching" business and got right down to the serious "man-hugging".
The bit of movement against a plodding Urango who moved slower than an Arctic glacier, was quickly abandoned when it resulted in Ricky getting hit in his "tummy-tum" a few times in round 5. Wisely he moved to the tried and true John Ruiz technique, smothering any possibility his opponent might have of scoring, and any possibility that the fight might remain interesting. At the same time, I feel he may have effectively smothered what interest was building for a Hatton/Castillo match in the future. Castillo certainly did his part as well squeaking out a much booed win over a quick and game, if inexperienced Ngoudjo. The only fighter Who did anything to elevate his status in the public eye even though he suffered a loss, no surprise that he fights out of Canada.
So we need suggestions for Ricky Hattons new "nickname"
post em here.
I say Ricky "Ruiz" Hatton
Let's hear yours!!
Would you have registered on his forum as "huggerhatton" by any chance ::**
Re: Is Ricky "Hugger" Hatton the new John Ruiz?
I honestly think we could see a return to his old ways when Hatton faces Castillo this year.
Looking at the pre-fight hype to Hatton v Urango, it is easy to see why the fight was slightly boring and uninspiring. Everyone, including Hatton, knew Urango was the man to hurt Hatton, possibly stop him, if there ever was one. He was forced into taking precautionary measures. He played it safe on saturday night, hugging or no hugging, he won clearly and did what he had to do.
Looking ahead to June, when he is set to face Castillo, although JLC is renound for his chin, toughness and true grit, i doubt, especially after his showing against Ngoujo, that Hatton will exercise the same amount of caution he did on saturday. Hatton will come for a good scrap, n JLC's style will allow Hatton a platform to unload the inside combos and blazin body shots of the old days. Also, with the Urango fight under his belt, i think Hatton may have gained a little momentum and refuelled his desire.
I predict a legendary war, with both fighters coming forward and thriving off eachother, with a late stoppage for Hatton or UD either way.
Re: Is Ricky "Hugger" Hatton the new John Ruiz?
Rickys Psyhcodynamics are changing, hes been Boxing a long time.
Re: Is Ricky "Hugger" Hatton the new John Ruiz?
Ricky "let our nipples rub" Hatton. ;D
I was actually kind of upset by both Hattons and Castillos performance but that just makes the fight upcoming fight against each other just that more interesting now. We saw things in Castillos fight that Hatton could take full advantage over like the fact that he looked really old and slow in there but we also saw in Hattons fight things that Castillo could take advantage of like the body punches. As we all saw they really hurt Hatton. Plus he looked tired in the later rounds and we know Castillo is still very active in the later rounds in his fights and he would not let Hatton hold him.
Did anyone see some thing crazy last night as i also saw????
Urango lifted up his hands after the fight as if he had won!!!
now i know some fighters raise there hands up after defeat but because they didnt give up and gave it their all, and no doubt that Urango didn't give up but he really thought he had won the fight. :o
What was that all about??? ???

i dont do being wrong!
watch the fight again hatton was mostly breaking without the ref intervening, WATCH AKINWANDE VS LEWIS OR RAHMAN VS RUIZ AND YOU'LL SEE "HUGGING". ???

Honestly mate, stop exagerratin and try to realise the
exceptional circumstances under which this fight was fought.
Hatton was fighting at a much higher level here, after a long period of inactivity, and for once, the other opponent had the bigger punch. Hatton was only a narrow favourite to win.
He knew this, and adapted in order to win the fight, going in, hitting, getting out and avoiding big shots. He did this for the large majority of the fight, despite a sticky patch where he did end up hugging a little.
To me, this is a sign that Hatton has come of age, and is an experienced ring veteran who knows how to adapt his style to neutralise and overcome certain fighters, which he did in this case. Also, is Urango realy someone a fighter like Hatton is able to impress against?
What did you expect him to do? Go in and trade all night, just what Urango came for.
I aint even gonna comment specifically on u referrin to John Ruiz, you know that comment is a pile of bollocks.
WOW! your amazing! you really should be in politics!
exceptional curcumstances?? what an actual fight? against a toughee?
Taking that fan numbing display, and turning it into that??

LOL anyway I think Hatton did ok, also he showed a great chin (again) but yes I did kind of get a little frustated when he started to hug. I think he does that when his opponent have the power to KO him.
Ricky "quiet man style" Hatton.
anyways I'm still a fan of Ricky can't wait until summer.
Re: Is Ricky "Hugger" Hatton the new John Ruiz?
The Ring Magazine makes the same exact comparison:

An excerpt:
Quote:
Somewhere along the line, he became a miniature and very pale version of John Ruiz (albeit one who is vastly more talented): Punch, punch, clinch. Punch, clinch. It’s mostly against guys whose strength he respects, and that means that for long as he fights at this level, we’re going to see more of it. Great.

No shit...that was pretty stupid. Hatton has hammered out & when he get's clocked once by Urango...or more than once...he changes tactics & now people are all over him? Stupid!
Hillarious.
