Alright since my Boy Frozen had the nads to step up and inquire about the motherland across the pond I have questions too ;D
Alright I have family in Coventry and I visited a few places back in 1997.. Birmingham, London and someother places that I'm to drunk to remember...... couple of questions
1) I work for a car dealership as a finance and salesmanager and make some decent money... Is the car business as lucrative in Great Britain as it is in the US?
2) Has alot of things changed since 1997 culture wise or economy wise?
I thought about making the move in 1997 but recently I was thinking it wouldnt be a bad idea to give it more thought...... I'm 31 and single and nothing holding me back.
can't say much about no.1. Its probably more sluggish over here coz on the whole cars are cheaper, sold on lower commision, people spend less on their cars and petrol costs more. A lot of the the United States, especially in the midwest, in the 1950's was planned purposefully to be used with cars and stuff. Thats why out-of-town shopping malls come from the US and stuff. But the UK isn't like that, its much smaller and a lot of the roads where developed in the pre-car days over hundreds of years so there's a lot less car dependency.Quote:

Since 1997 the economy has done nothing but grow, infact Britain has been the strongest economy in Europe for the last 10 years, unemployment is less than a million, there's plenty of jobs, interest rates are low, economically speaking the place is better than its ever been. Economically Britain has grown 20 years in the last 10.
By the way fellow Englishmen I fucking HATE tony blair, I'm not spouting this because I like him or his government, its reputable fact. Its not even Tony Blair's achievement its Gordon Brown, the chancellor and next prime minister, who's responsible for that. The only reason Blair has been so successful is due to the hilarious incompetence of the Tories. In comparison anyone would look good. I'm a student and because of that cunt my student loan breaks down as follows:
Overall; £7,200 per year
Tuition Fee's; £3,000
Accomodation £3,600 (for a prison cell in an ex-council flat in Salford)
Left over; £600 to FUCKING LIVE ON FOR A YEAR!!!!
Over 3 years thats £21,000. We get a £2,000 overdraft, but hey guess what? Thats debt too! So over 3 years I'm in £27,000 worth of debt. Thanks tony you cunt.
Of course there's a lot of other things that have changed. Britain is the most CCTV'd country on earth, there are fucking LOADS of speed camera's around compared to 1997, council tax is a lot higher, the price of petrol is absolutely ridiculous. Back in 1997 pubs couldn't stay open past 11, shops had to shut at 9, we only had 4 television channels, two of which were the BBC, it was shite. Things have changed a lot, this a has been a very radical government.
Binge drinking is a new cultural phenomenon. People going out on weekends to get incredibly pissed. Of course its not though, coz we've been doing that for centuries, but these days a whole industry based on laddish alcoholism exists and is much more effectively get people hammered for less money. I'm all in favour, but it is something thats picked up over the last few years. Chavs are a new cultural phenomenon, a sort of mix of wigger, white trash, inner-city feral children and the remnants of one proud british working class. Most of the things you'll read about chavs is just your typical british class snobbery, but there is a lot more petty crime in the inner cities, and there is a bery large dis-affected underclass just ripe for fascism. the BNP's growth is testament to this.
British Food gets better and better, mainly because it doesn't exist. actual British food, ie the stuff our grandparents ate, is pretty foul and so now we are just a mongrel nation with food from all over the world. Very cosmopolitan, these days only fish and chips really exists alongside Indian, Chinese and Italian as a take-away food. And Chips will never die, coz they're £1 whereas a kebab is £4-5.
Oh yeah hatred of the government. Post-Iraq Blair's just a been in a mess, he started out as one of the most popular prime ministers since churchill, but the war has ruined him. He was the messiah, saving us from the evil conservatives who ruined this country for 18 years, but he let us down by making the biggest foreign policy error since the Munch conference. Now no-one has faith in ANY politician, left or right, but you being american are probably used to that ;)
Thats about it. Now come over here and get a job, the EU is gonna shit on China and the USA sooner or later just a matter of time.
That was good, real good I got to read thru that again in the morning... but in the mean time :coolclick: to you for the explanationQuote:
