Duran would have got into his head before the fight,en route to a late stoppage.Quote:

Roberto would get to him in a few rounds and start to bust him up sort of like he did Davey Moore. Duran knockout 9 Shane. Shane does not have the foot movement to beat a Roberto. Like with Hagler, a guy who beats Hagler has to be a step ahead of Roberto or Marvin.
First of all, Roberto Duran was an awesome fighter and if you are basing his career on his later fights against the likes Hearns and Hagler (who he fought at 154 or higher) you are just not doing him justice. Furthermore, contrary to what someone mentioned earlier in this group, he did not move up to meet those fighters who were "more his size," when he moved up to 147 and higher, those fighters had a huge size advantage on him. Duran was not a big man. Still, he took on the great Sugar Ray (absolutely no sarcasm intended), who had a big height advantage and a massive reach advantage and still beat him, and that was at 147. Also, he fought Benitez and Hagler to tough fought decisions at even higher weights.
The first thing that came to my mind is the size difference, but I don't think Mosley's size would be enough in this one, he would need Hearns or Hagler type power to go with it, and he just doesn't have it. If Duran could beat Leonard at 147, and go the distance with Benitez and Hagler -- HAGLER! -- at even higher weights, I think he could handle whatever Mosley could give him. It would be a great match up, no doubt, but I would have to go with Duran, especially at 135. At lightweight Duran was devastating.
I think your missing something here. SSM has a tendency to leave himself open many time during the fight. Duran would spark him out well before the final bell. Duran hit harder than anybody SSM has ever fought or ever will fight. I think you're selling Duran down the river. He was a very bad man. You don't get the nickname "Hands of Stone" for nothing!!!Quote:

Duran always gets that excuse and to be it is unfair to the guys who beat him. Well the fact is that the best guys Duran ever fought were Hagler,Hearns,Leonard,Benitez and Cuevez. Those were the best guys he ever fought. Not at lightweight where he had lighter competition as well as lighter in weight. Dejesus outboxed him once at lightweight and Esteban was not in the class of the 5 guys I mentioned earlier. Benitez moved up in weight from 140 and outboxed Roberto easily in 1982.. Then Hearns beat Wilfred that same year to win that title at 154. Then Roberto beats Davey Moore and does well with Marvin Hagler, and people say look how great he is. Even though he is at this weight which people say he does not fight well at. Now take into consideration that Roberto won the 154 and 160 titles, and fought all the way up at 168 in his career, something Ray Leonard could not. So he could handle the weight. So Duran was such an impressive fighter to people and got credit after he demolishes Moore and does well with Marvin, and he then gets demolished by Hearns in a match where size had nothing to do with it speed did. Watch the fight on youtube if you do not think so. And that was not a one punch ko by Hearns, Tommy hit him clean over and over. So people say, well look how small Roberto is.. He is really a lightweight. Well no one complained when Roberto beat Davey Moore and said Moore had 12 fights and really shouldn't fight a guy who has 80s fights, they just used it to say Roberto was great. And he is. My point is if he was great for beating Moore and Barkley, he should have been seen as great when he fought Hearns at the same weights. So why does he get excuses when he loses to Hearns or Hagler, when Hearns was a champion at 154 like Duran -since Roberto held the WBA title he won from Moore but was stripped for fighting Tommy. Look at Duran's old fights at lightweight. He was fast and furious but he had his feet wide apart. a good boxer who moves will be one step ahead of Roberto.. Regardless of weight. I think Pernell would have beat Roberto at lightweight and so would probably Floyd.. The same way Ray Leonard beat Roberto. You know another matchup where Roberto would have lost easily. A guy like Virgil Hill would beat Roberto easy even at lower weights just on style. Give a Robert a straight ahead puncher like Iran Barkley and he does well. I always thought that Nigel Benn would have been an upset win for Roberto.. Stylewise he does well with guys like that who stand in front of him. But with the great great guys he did not win.. No matter what. He beat Ray when Ray was insulted with what Roberto said about Juanita and he tried to fight Roberto's fight. Then he smartens up and wins the 2 later fights easily. Easily!! I want you guys to tell me a fighter who stands in front of another fighter and does not move much and brawls and I tell you Roberto beats that guy. But show me a guy who moves effectively and can keep it up with combinations and that guy beats Roberto.. Styles make fights and he was susceptible always. Hearns was the only guy who kind of used speed and power both and didn't need to move. So he was the only guy who changed the rules by being so fast. Sorry this was so long.Incidentally I think Roberto demolishes Tito Trinidad. The style works for Roberto. A guy who does not move much and likes to tee off.. Roberto would have eventually wore Tito out..
Duran was THE LEGEND who could do everything in an unfussy was. He was absolutely relentless and without pity - I respect Mosely, I think he is a very very good fighter, enormously talented, but he would not be able to get Duran's respect and would be unable to keep Duran off him.
Duran grinds him down over 9 furious rounds and applies the coupe-de-grace with a combination that has the referee stepping in to stop a brave but outclassed Mosely.
Don't get the wrong impression that Shane Mosely was a Ray Leonard becuase the sugar in their names is all they have in common. Shane Mosely throws alot of his punches wide which makes them easy to see coming. The speed factor still can't offset that his punches are telegraphed. On top of that he throws the kind of jab that guys like Duran walk through. This is be a flashback to Mosely's worst fights. Not to offend any SSM fan but Callazo was indecisive, and didn't set up any shots. Besides that Callazo's corner was giving saying offnote advice "He can't dig like you can dig... He's getting tired"
Now Duran isn't a bad fighter, he can take anyone's best and still come back strong. Even though he lost to Leonard, Hagler and Hearns, I can't put Shane in that catagory based on what he brings to the table.
remind me of duran leonard 1
duran uppercuts were bad
you must be a good & tall boxer to be able to beat mosely though
mose 12ud
Both greats but Duran did struggle with stick and move type boxers and Shane Mosley weakness was only taller fighters but that wouldn't be case here so ud for Mosley.
I think it would be a hell of a fight, i would slighty favour, duran. He boxed in a beta era against tougher opponents. Close tho. :lickish:
At 135 Duran was a diffrent kind of breed.....He abuses Mosley and wins a decision
Disagree Mosley would be tough fight for anyone at 135 i like Mosley by decision.Quote:
