I think Peter should take it as well. The belt doesn't mean much. People don't remember you just for a belt, and even if they did who cares. How many broke boxers that at one time held a belt? Leon Spinks is a janitor, anybody paying his bills cause he held a belt?
Take the money, stay in the gym, and win the title from the winner of the fight. Realistically a career isn't about belts. There's 4 of them right now, and there will be plenty of opportunities for a belt if Peter doesn't retire.

A) Rahman was very respectful of Vitali and deserves a fight vs Vitali
B) It's a good warm up fight given Rahman's inability to beat James Toney and Oleg Maskaev

Peter giving up that position as legitimate challenger, takes him out of the championship spot vs. Klitchko , and I would predict Peter would have little problem beating Maskeav . meaning he would be the Champion going into the Vitali Klitchko fight, that’s if Vitali would still be interested in coming out of retirement if Peter wins ! .. anyway Sam being champion gives him more leverage on the purse split going into that Klitchko fight.. 70 % champion - 30% challenger on average. that’s a huge difference in profits when you consider the amount of revenue a big fight like that would produce.. and we aint talking no measly 2.5 million dollar step aside money as compensation for the lucrative defending Champion status .. my advise is "Don't take the money Peter.". fuck Klitchko and company ! Peter paid a total of $100,000 in sanctioning fees already , which the WBC has gladly pocketed to earn the right to fight for the WBC title. Sam would be foolish to step aside. O0

I don't think he would make 2 mil for Maskaev. Maskaev and Klitschko is a big draw over in the russia. That is where the 2.5 step aside money is gonna come from. Then he's nearly sure to fight Vitale for another $3mill?
Seriously. I thought Peter should get the shot before Vitale, but being handed $2.5mil to wait a few months is a great deal for him. He's getting a return on all his sanctioning fees and still gonna fight for the title next. Take the money Peter.... The title means little. The money feeds your family for the rest of your life, and you get it win lose or draw.
Seriously who else could Peter fight and make essiently $5mil for one fight? He gets $2.5 to sit and wait then $3 for the winner? There's no other big fights except Wlad, and that ain't happening for awhile. Especially if he oversteps Vitale and doesn't let them become champs at the same time.... You know Wlad would make Peter wait forever for the rematch.
On principle I think Peter deserves the shot, but in reality I think he should take the money. Really it's better for him overall.
