Gotta say no. Its like a measuring stick now, if you bring up a guy who's borderline you can always say, well Barry McGuigan got inducted.

For a while I had the hump with him, dont no why just did, well I do if Im honest but at the end of the day Barry Mc giugan was for a 4year period a fucking good fighter make no mistake. People forget, I remember one fight I thought the kid he was going to box would give him murders, Mac walked right through him. Thats when I saw something Special. Azuma Nelson and Mac at their best was a pickum fight make no mistake, Im a big fan of Nelson

The Hall of Fame isn't just based on an impartial critical analysis of a fighters record though and in my opinion neither should it be.
The Hall of Fame is a place where hero's and villains from the whole boxing world, fighters, historians, trainers, cutman, matchmakers etc all have their unique contribution recognised.
To be honest regarding Barry McGuigan, I have only a very hazy memory and his boxrec record to guide me but in truth a fighters merit in the halls of boxing fame rest on more than that.
If McGuigan managed to unite North and Southern Island as one poster mentioned than that is a great thing. Surely if a matchmaker or historian can make it into the Hall of Fame based on what they contributed to the sport then the wider contribution of a fighter to boxing as a whole should be considered.
I don't know enough about McGuigan personally to be able to call it but I would say that Gatti absolutely deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.
His blood and guts, never surrender, never quit style won over millions of boxing fans and made him one of the most beloved fighters of the modern era.
To me he's contributed every bit as much to boxing as a whole as have many other hall of famers with better records.

But come on 11 title defenses thats saying something....
You don't defend a title 11 times plus the guys he fought were ALL top contenders of the Welter. Div. at that time. His loses were either early in his career or late in his career....
What I think makes you look at it this way is that he had a short wining era meaning I think it from like '76 to '80 when he lost to Hearns. But the guy fought whomever and he fought like 4 times a year I think in those 4 years that he was champ.

yea he was good fighter no doubt but big major fights that make you into legends are against all time greats he lost to duran and hearns both all times greats and both times he was stopped early and imo he doesnt derserve to be in there neither does barry

Agreed, but they have Don Kng in don't they an he took more out of the sport than put in.

Barry was on his way to being a hall of famer after beating Pedroz and Bernard Taylor who had only failed to beat (drew with) a prime Pedroza, but he didn't back those great wins up - not enough Longjevity to be in th HOF, but on his very best night he was awesome

agreed hall of fame is elite of elite like ali ray robinson ect these guys fought best of era and had outstanding records
to be in hall of fame you need to beat all time greats something that barry didnt do guys like ali he beat foreman fraizer sonny liston ect great fighters and proved himself to be one of best heavyweights of all time and sorry bilbo have to agree with vd here why should things you do outside ring affect if you get in hall of fame or not ??hall of fame is about beating best and proving your best barry didnt do either

It depends on what you define as excellent though ultimately. I mean a look through the Ring's annual Fight of the Year award shows that only Carmen Bassilio and Muhammad Ali have ever featured in more fights of the year than Arturo Gatti.
Both of those guys and pretty much any other fighter who is in the list more than once are all Hall of Famers without question.
I think if Gatti was voted in I'd say he deserved it. Probably only Oscar De La Hoya has been a more popular fighter in the past 20 years. You can't mention great rivalries in boxing without bringing up Gatti Ward, it's possibly the greatest trilogy of all time.
If they vote him in I'll be please for him.
