Not many people know about malinga..
But he was really quite a good fighter..Horrible to watch..But very very!! good defensively!!..
Benn had beaten malinga by points the fight before roy beat him..
I can tell you this..Malinga was awkward.. hard to land meaningful punches on.. and had a solid chin..
The dark destoyer had to settle for a ud..
Even chris eubank only beat him on a split decision..
Then when roy fought him..Horrible to watch for about five rounds.. Roy easily out pointing him..
But malinga was giving no leway for big shots.. Then he was knocked silly with one punch in the 6th..
Thats how good roy was.. He had never been stopped..Evidently been in with some big punchers and could take a punch..If you could land it on him..
And roy was just that fast and tricky to spark such an awkward fighter..
Peace
CC. Roy Jones Jr. was THE MAN.

Another Joke topic...Aside from Mosley, what top opponents do these guys have on their resume'?Margo shouldnt even be in the convo! As for Hatton(Did you not see his last fight?)...Mosley was dominated TWICE by Winky...and he wins one fight and people are trying to say that he's back...are you serious?Cotto has potential, but down the stretch he didnt look to impressive against Malignaggi. Most of these boxers are where PBF was YEARS ago!

Completely disagree..
Its too tough to downright judge today's top fighters by certain performances given that very few of them have faced the same opposition and have completely different styles..
For instance if you were to compare Cotto to mayweather by way of theyr performances against demarcus corley..Then that could be said as just..
But comparing cotto's performance to malignaggi ..When malignaggi is a great fighter..
And Floyd was looking like that years ago also against dangerous competition like castillo and chavez etc.. So you cant really compare since floyd has not really been tested since jlc..
Re: What's floyd excuse?...
If Cotto struggled with Malignaggi...what do you think will happen will PBF???Or do you think that malignaggi and Floyd are close?lol .Floyd dominated Corley!Yes...JLC gave Floyd a tough fight!Other then him who else has do it?If FLoyd would have struggled with Baldomir...you'd be on here talkin sh*t.I swear that some of you think that anyone who has a top promoter and a good body shot will destroy floyd...be serious!
Re: What's floyd excuse?...
They are different situations, but I think Floyd should be able to retire. Because like I said in the other thread. Alot of the greatest fighters in the world have retired without fighting anyone truly great. Roy was stubborn, and rightfully while Benn and Eubank wouldn't come over, and demanded 50/50 fights and the like, and same with Hopkins who wouldn't fight on reasonable terms. I think they were all scared of Roy because he was that good, and that hard of a hitter. While Floyd doesn't have that power so people are lining up around the block just waiting for him to get a little slower.

roy jones is my all time fav...pbf was second then shane..after pbf talked that shit about shane he dropped to three....there's no way in hell floyd can just retire without being scruntinized for not fighting cotto, mosley, hatton, margarito, williams,...no way in hell he would just be a great fighter that retired to protect his record..if he beats oscar that is....
because roy would have fought collins, benn, eubank, calzaghe, darius, all tham had they come to the states..but they didn't and that's not roy's fault so he really shouldn't critized at all..now floyd on the other hand..those aforementioned fighter are in the states already so there no way he can retire with fights like those on the table...

::** And i could swear that you are bieng ignorant and unjustly comparing fighters..
And floyd beat corley comfortably..Not utter domination.. Corley is one of the few to have had floyd hurt..
And why bring up baldomir.. We knew floyd wouldnt have problems with baldomir because baldo is not of the same class.. So theres no arguement behind you bringing up this fight..
And since when did i say one single thing about top promoters and good body shots..
This topic is to do with floyds legacy and will he or how do people feel about him taking on the other superstars of the welter weight division etc..
I havnt said that cotto would beat floyd... All i know its a super fight and floyd doesnt have enough fights that are true ppv material and are going to leave him a bigger legacy..
Regarding malignaggi.. Paulie not only fought the wrong fight against cotto.. But was in with a man who weighed in unnoficially two weight divisions above him.. and still couldnt get sparked..Had a cut in the opening sseconds and still wasnt stopped and by a big puncher like cotto..
Paulie can match floyd for speed.. and there is not a chance in hell of floyd stopping paulie..
So yes.. I do rate him highly enough to say mayweather would not utterly dominate him
Re: What's floyd excuse?...
Tito what world are you living in?The Cotto-Malignaggi fight... look what happened. Both had each other staggered. Both took a lot of shots. It was pretty much a brawl until Malgi used his jab more down the stretch.Did you see the way that Cotto all of a sudden is trying to role his shoulders and drop his jab hand(cough PBF).This is when he took most of his shots.Answer this...how is malginaggi on PBF's level?and for you to say that he is as fast as PBF?Get serious.Cotto,Margo,Hatton cant beat PBF period! They all try to rush in and smother when they are in the ring, which just won't work with Floyd.

Keep the arguemnt sensible bro.. We dont want it getting out of hand.. Gota put your shiz forward in a fair way!!
I think its perfectly alright to say that malignaggi is ojn floyd's level to an extent..
Obviously floyd has faced better competition, had more fights, been promoted better and had better chances to prove himself..But malignaggi given the same fights would shine and have earnt himself a very nice rep from the fights floyd has been given..
For one.. Both malignaggi and floyd are very very fast.. At 140 then the power is all on floyds side..
We all know paulies fault is his lack of power.. and we also know that floyd being originally a superfeatherweight and personally i think floyd shone brightest at lightweight.. That his power is not nearly the same at 140 or 147..
When was the last time floyd really was challenged by another fighter who is considered particularly elusive.. Well theres zab..Zab is not as elusive more fast on his feet and with his hands..
But still zab had some great rounds against floyd and floyd came nowhere close to stopping zab..
Although granted zab is in a different league of power to paulie..
Paulie is also faster on his feet, Very rarely lets himself into a corner, and when he gets going and his game plan is right his defence is much better then zab's.. I never said paulie beats floyd.. But he lasts to the decision without a complete white wash.. Quite an interesting fight if you ask me..
The only reason paulie is not considered to be up there with floyd is because floyd has just accomplished much much much more then paulie..
If paulie had started at or had his first title shot at lightweight then later came to light welter then he could be a mulitple weight world champion..I say lightweight because paulie is just naturally too small to gain a welterweight title in my opinion..
But given the right fights etc paulie could make for a great legacy bieng comfortable at light welter and could perhaps unfiy some of the titles at 140 and is not short of interesting and dangerous competition..
Can you see where i am coming from?
Peace
Re: What's floyd excuse?...
Tito...I understand what you are saying but...Paulie has to many flaws in his game to be on Floyds level.
1.Paulie's defense is questionable
2.his combinations are good but when he gets beat to the punch,he tends to stick with jabbing and moving
3.He has great footwork...But Cotto cut the ring off at times and he ran into hooks
What holes can you spot in Floyds game?

Paulie.. I personally think highly of his defence..
Totally agree he does tend to get beat to the punch..But i have high hope of rectifying this by way of buddy mcgirt.. Mcgirt has said he wants to make changes to paulies game and none too soon..
The whole power problem comes from the fact his left hand is carried by his hip and instead of shooting shots strait forward or bieng able to turn in with other shots he is really just slapping his arm out there with his fist clenched.. Call it arm punching.. Also since its coming up not bieng pushed out strait hes getting timed or just plain rushed so's to stop him getting off first.. etc..
Floyd..What can we really say about floyd?..
All i can say about floyd is all i can say about all fighters that are truely on the top level of all time greatness..They can only truely be beaten by themselves..
Toney was untouchable till his weight problems especially leading up to a fight with the great roy jones.
Roy Jones was irritated into dropping his weight after having made heavyweight with a decent amount of muscle to fight tarver back at light heavy when his original intention after beating ruiz was to defend the title against tyson and retire..
Felix Trinidad just blatantly chose the wrong opponents in winky wright and hopkins and some argue that he wasnt a true middleweight..In my personal opinion it is more that felix would get sloppy from time to time and in someways could be one dimensional and after having seen tito destroy all others both hopkins and winky had untouchable gameplans and carried them out textbook..
Oscar.. Recorded an album dedicated to his mother distracting him from training for the first mosely fight and was unlucky in not getting an astonishingly close second decision in the rematch..
And that middleweight was a step to far for golden boy when he fought bernard hopkins..
Theres so many more but i wont go on..
Then again.. Fighters like bernard hopkins really never fell of the wagon and have dominated for years on end..
And floyd reminds me very much of bernard in the way of which he is a gym rat and nothing unhealthy is involved with his body.
Peace
