I do believe if at the time if Tyson took it seriously he could have won but....... :(
With the benefit of hindsight it really is a wonder anyone picked Tyson. Tyson really hadnt been shining for a number of years, we all had this image of that young Tyson and maybe he could do it one more time...
That Tyson was long gone...
Re: Your most dissappointing/saddest boxing moment?
Tyson Holyfield I
I was 9 years old at my uncles house(one of my 9 uncles) And we were all gathered to watch the Tyson fight, I was only 9 but I loved Mike Tyson, he was and is the sole reason I got into boxing in the first place and I developed a hate for anyone who disliked him(I was 9 at the time but you get the point)
Anyway, I loved watching Mike Tyson growing up, I didn't even know who Muhammad Ali was until I was 11, but I had seen all his comeback fights. And I used to wrap scotch tape around my hands when he would fight and punch when he did as if my spirit was somehow helping him in his fights ... it became like a ritual to me :) Thats how much I loved Tyson at such a young age..
Watching that Holyfield fight I kept screaming at the TV because I noticed Holyfield was ramming his head into Tyson, and I knew it wasn't legal for him to do it. So I kept saying to my dad what Holyfield was doing and he agreed, but I told my uncle and my uncle(a devout Tyson hater until recently) was enjoying every minute.
When Holyfield knocked Tyson down I remember it felt like my heart stopped..
(you know like scenes in anime where its a dramatic moment and the entire room feels dark?) Thats what it felt like to me watching him get beaten by Holyfield that first time. And I hated Evander Holyfield and always called him a cheater who headbutted and I rooted for anyone against Holyfield until he fought James Toney where I had let it go(thats many years, which should let you know how deep I was into hatred for him I had that stemmed from me as 9 years old)
I was at my saddest the night Holyfield beat him the first time. I had always known he'd lost to Buster Douglas, my dad told me about it but I wasn't afraid to watch Mike fight because I knew I'd never seen him lose and felt like I wasn't going to.
Wanna know how bad that fight got me? It made me afraid to watch boxing because I was afraid of a boxer I like getting beat in front of my eyes again(mind you I was 9) and I was scared to watch boxing for a few years, I watched it but I was very nervous when I did.
I only latched onto another fighter again was Lennox Lewis(only because he beat Holyfield whom I hated) and I followed Lennox to when he fought Rahman which I was excited about, however I was stuck playing video games the night of the fight..my dad was upstairs watching it. So then I looked at the schedule on the TV and it said Lennox was fighting Rahman that night, and I felt saddened because I wanted to see Lennox dominate and win. Anmd my dad came down those stairs going "WOOOOO!" And I said "Lennox Lewis fight?" and my dad said "yeah" And I said "was it an exciting one?" And my dad said "oh yeah. You didn't see it?" And I said "No. So Lennox won in a great fight?" And my dad burst out laughing and said "Son...he got knocked the fuck out!!!!"
At that moment I felt a same kind of hatred for Rahman(I was still young though. 14) so I rooted for Lennox in that rematch and Rahman got knocked out and I was happy ;D
I only started rooted for Rahman when he foguht Holyfield(who I hated more still)
But then I was sad...because then I found out that Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson were fighting... I stayed with my loyalty to Tyson in that one...and it was the same feeling all over again watching Lennox beat him...and then finally stop him :( I was so sad...but I didnt cry this time...he wouldn't have wanted me to, because if I cried then it would mean he did something wrong, he did nothing wrong cause that night he fought his butt off and tried his hardest to win. So nobody can ever sit there and tell me that Tyson had no desire when someone stood up to him, Tyson kept trying his hardest in that Lennox Lewis fight, Lennox was just the better man. Can't fault mike for that.
So... you guessed it, after Lennox beat Tyson all of a sudden I hated Lennox.
And was rooting for Kirk Johnson(who I thought got a raw deal against John Ruiz..who I had rooted for against Holyfield before, isn't it amazing how all these things link into each other ??? ) Anyway, I was rooting for Kirk Johnson against Lennox Lewis but then he got injured so I was rooting for Vitali against Lennox Lewis and so was my mom  I've never seen her so much into a boxing match..hearing my normally silent mother screaming "Get his ass!!! GET HIM!!! GET HIM VITALI!!! KNOCK HIS ASS AROUND THE RING SOME MORE!!!" was a little scary to be honest...
Of course we all know the result of that fight, but I was a Vitali fan soon after, but I wasn't a Wladimer fan.
Anyway, I'm sorry to put my whole life story there...but if you can, find the saddest moments I mentioned ;D
peace

Tyson-Douglas
Couldnt believe that somebody could actually beat Tyson.
Re: Your most dissappointing/saddest boxing moment?
Ali's second to last fight vs. Holmes was pretty sad. Watching Ali still have too much pride to go down and taking a beating the entire fight. You could really see him not wanting to let go of his greatness, but he just didn't have it in him anymore. :'(
Re: Your most dissappointing/saddest boxing moment?
B enn v McCellam fight, I had afighter on the Bill. Just before he boxed I had a phonecall telling me my brother had died I was heartbroken getting into the ring, my fighter said scrap Ill make it quick which he did 3 rds in the dressing rooms after everybody at the show came in and offered there condolences It cracked me up, cried my eyes out.
Re: Your most dissappointing/saddest boxing moment?
I think that for me the saddest moments have been the really bad decisions!
where a fighter gets robbed after so much work. His life and career may be changed forever by one unfair decision in a key fight.
It saddens me not only for the boxer but for boxing itself who's already black image gets further tarnished.
It especially hurts and maddens me when I have money riding on the fight!
I remember the John Ruiz/Andrew Golota fight. Ruiz was knocked down twice in the fight and had a point deduction for hitting during the break. As usual it was a horrible Ruiz clutchfest.
That night there were 4 HW fights I had bet on $500 on each fight.
I won all the other 3 and should have won betting on Golota. I'd have made I think it was about $2000! I still made some money. I remember the crowd went nuts when they announced the Ruiz win decision. I looked stupid as I had been saying hat Golota was winning he fight esp after the 3 points deducted!
Some people even got up and walked out in total disgust even though it was the first of 4 fights and was a PPV!

Re: Your most dissappointing/saddest boxing moment?
It is what it is ! Life and boxing are full tragedy and accomplishments , you just have to stay positive and get through it. I always say nothing worth having comes easy in life ! You work hard and stay focused, good things will happen .

Re: Your most dissappointing/saddest boxing moment?
Evander Holyfield vs James Toney
Holyfield has always been a warrior and Toney has always been arrogant so it was sad to see an out of shape James Toney 3 divisions above his natural weight , moving up to completely dominate and embarrass Evander beofre knocking him out . Even sticking his tongue out and taunting the old man . Evander had been in with Tyson and Lewis and stayed upright but it was sad to see a guy like Toney having his way with him , breaking him down and taking him out .

Can I take it you're a Bristol man ? Dean Francis is on the comeback now anyway and Paul Ryan went on to get knocked out himself in the 1st round a couple times.
