Marquez deserved the victory by maybe 2 clear rounds and anyone who had Barrera ahead is having a f*cking joke with us ;)
Marquez took the fight to Barrera in most rounds and definately won fair and square.
Rematch would be a better fight imo with both going toe to toe from the off 8)
The recent fight between Graham Earl and Michael Katsidis had miles more War like action, knockdowns and twists and turns in only 5 rounds, absolutely no question about it.
Gotta be a rematch :)
I hope they don't have a rematch - barrera has been my number 1 fighter since i can remeber, he will always be my fav fighter - even tho he looked great last night, he isnt quite the same, the hunger IMO is gone! and i don't think he can quite take a punch like he could; the barrera of a few years ago would of been all over JMM like white on rice in the 8th round the way he came out, he was clearly still not with it after the knock down, his eyes liked glazed and his head hadn't clearled, barrera would of gone and hit 7 bells out of him and stopped him in that round.
Was a fantastic fight and i am happy for JMM; i think out fo the two he has the better chance to beat pac (even tho i think barrera won that fight) he has the hunger and grit to take the big hits, get up off the floor and make a go of it! Barrera now if he fights on would fight pac no doubt in my mind, but he doesn't have the hunger like he used to...
Re: Let's put Barrera v Marquez into perspective.....
I think we fans are sometimes led astray by Lampley's piss poor scoring and loud hysteria, Christ, I thought Max was bad. Just because he and Manny see it one way doesn't mean it's the right way. That said, Forbes got a major hose job. MAB-JMN could have been closer and maybe even a draw.
Re: Let's put Barrera v Marquez into perspective.....
As I've said in 2 other threads in my first day here, lol, the rounds were close but the fight wasn't. Marquez just outpunched the guy thru the whole fight. MAB landed a ton of nice jabs but whenever they exchanged he was on the losing end 9/10.
Re: Let's put Barrera v Marquez into perspective.....
Marquez was much much sharper all night but i feel that Barrera would do better in a rematch.

What makes you think that ?
I'm a huge Barrera fanbut I think this setback has really disillusioned him and I wouldnt be surprised if he turned his back on boxing after whats happend to him
Re: Let's put Barrera v Marquez into perspective.....
Simply put..he knows he can KO Marquez plus i don't think he was in very good shape ;)
Age could be a big factor in that i suppose and i feel losing out on the KO will drive someone like Barrera to victory next time out.
He may (as you say) simply turn it in,maybe he should call it a day in all fairness to him.
Re: Let's put Barrera v Marquez into perspective.....
I would much rather see JMM take on PAC now instead of the rematch, JMM s not getting any younger sooo I say go after PAC and make the fight happen.....
Re: Let's put Barrera v Marquez into perspective.....
That would be superb and i can't see why not.
Weird that Boxrec have a rematch listed already for Sept as i can't imagine anything could be sorted so swiftly :o

He dropped Marquez pretty good but MAB looked more hurt than Marquez ever was.
And what makes you think he wasn't in good shape?

What do you man about the shape ? Do you know something I dont . Its also sus that a flood of money went on JMM late and then he got wide scores .
Yeah before the fight I didnt think Barrera could k.o JMM and vice versa but now I know Barrera can drop him with 1 shot . Jmm landed his best shots on Barrera and couldnt floor him . Makes for an interesting return

Thats not suss at all. It's called smart money.
From when it was priced up, win or lose, Marquez looked worth a punt in a 50/50 contest ;)

if you look at the picks made for the prediction contest you'll see that the early picks were on barerra and the lates were on marquez... and thats got nothing to do with money.
i thought barerra looked funny right from the ring entrance. i commentetd to my brother on how he seemed subdued and pasty with bags under his eyes. now i know barerra is calm and calculated, but he usually has an determined allertness to him that wasn't there from the start in my opinion. he fought well over the first few rounds, but then seemed to lay back over 4, 5 & 6 and was really just pulling the stops out to steal the round at the 20 second mark... so while i though barerra was being given the decision, i can see how marquez won rounds where barerra sat back and let come forward. and they always say the vegas judges like aggression.

Impressed me too, while groggy Barrera was able to drop JMM with 1 punch :o
Nady is freakin blind :(
