Not to sound so defensive...but one more name?Quote:

as perhaps the greatest smw of all time. also 'hometown' decisions are not a factor, nor will they ever be with calzaghe. Britain has one of the least shameful records of dodgy decisions, certainly far better than germany or the US to name two.
I think Calzaghe is one of the top fighters of his day and a fighting champion !!
People laugh at Calzaghe and say who has he fought but to know Joe you know that he just a fighting man through and through he has fought plenty of good fighters Reid ,Sheika ,Mittchell,Woodhall, Brewer and Lacy and barely lost a round in any of them !!
He didnt just get results he stood in the trenches sometimes when injured and not sharp and did it the old fashioned way with his bollocs and no little skill .
The Lacy performence was one of the best ever in a British Ring he beat a very good fighter on the biggest night of his life in any and every way you could beat somebody he is a man of steel and a man of increible bottle and resolve and i really wish he could have had more luck , the man who entered the Ring against Lacy knew he was the better man when all others doubted !!
He doesnt quite make the grade as an alltime great because of injury but to make 20 defences and never be in any trouble is a laudable accolade .
Hopkins bottled it against Calzaghe and proved himself a run of the mill good middleweight and at the same time oppurtunist .
Hopkins stealing the fight against Eastman and the 2 non events Taylor proved him for what he wa .
Mayweather , good but not a true fighting man just hasnt fought anyone good enough his record of late is just shit !! He's got all the skill ,lightning speed good techinically but not the heart and nothing like the bottle .
Winky is a good fighter i like him but he just doesnt excite me and you know what you get with him everytime and i think Calzaghe would just destroy him at 168 , i sure respect him a ton more than Hopkins .
Hopkins beat Eastman...Eastman & his folks need to give that shit a rest.Quote:

Winky's more than just a good fighter...I'd have to really rethink the idea of Joe destroying him...Joe hasn't destroyed anyone lately & he had issues with Bika. Wright's got twenty times the defense of Lacy & twice the chin. No one has made a dent with Wright...I don't think Joe would be able to blow him out.
I like Joe...but he aint the answer to every boxing style in the books. He's fast & awkward & throws volume at all angles...but so did Soliman...& awkwardness & volume didn't do shit for him...not that you can compare the two...but the volume made not effect on Wright.
Ok Wacko , describle Hopkins win over Eastman and his 2 efforts against Taylor !!Quote:

Winky good but Joe would be too much physically just like Harry Simon was by which i mean he wont let him rest and could deal with his jab and movement .
Are you seriously comparing Joe Calzaghe to Sam Soliman ?
A, Sam Soliman made WW look sloppy .
B, Joe Calzaghe is a much better fighter
c,WW won his big fights coming up in weight and well past the sell by date .
Im not going into the whole WW thing again cos im sick of it .
Joe is alot more than just fast and awkward he is incredibly strong , hits hard , great boxer , great chin and an out and out winner What could WW do to Joe Calzaghe , i could name alot of what Joe could do to him ( potentially )
Your summing up of Joe let me put it like this if i said what i really thought we'd fall out .

Felix Trinidad became one of least favorite fighters of all time due to the fact he retired after both of his losses instead of trying to avenge them like a true champion...again he didn't even have to win just try....
One thing taht can be said about DLH...and I am not trying to build him up but the guy has persued nothing but the best...Not just fought but Persued...That is how a champion and ATG behaves
B-hop's destruction of tarver was equally/more impressive than calzaghes win over lacy.
I think that IF Joe fights Kessler and IF he wins then his legacy will be secured. He fought the other champion won all of the belts, you cant ask much more than that. After the Kessler fight I would like to see him move up to LHW and win a belt or two there before he retires. It would just be icing on the cake imo.
I am not much of a Joe fan but to give him some credit there wasnt/isnt a whole lot of fighters there even close to Joe's level.
where can i find joes amateur record?there are some big names on it i know that.
Well golly gosh gee…say what you feel please Swashbuckler…don’t sweat us falling out.Quote:

As I said & noted…Calzaghe is a great. Calzaghe beat the shit out of Lacy…& plain as print I clearly stated that while Soliman is awkward & throws volume at all angles...like Joe does…that you can compare the two.
Also…you must not understand thrown punches vs. landed punches because Soliman didn’t do shit against Wright. Again…volume don’t mean shit if you can’t connect. Hardly anything Soliman did made an effect on Wright.
Please pirate…don’t be silly & start comparing Floyd & Calzaghe. I’m a fan of both men…but Mayweather has the better list of opposition. Anyone in boxing that can discuss things unbiased (which you can not) knows that having names such as Corrales, Baldomir, Judah, Castillo, Gatti, & blah blah blah speaks more than beating the men that Joe has. In his last 10 fights? Ha ha ha. You do reach. Joe finally stepped up to the plate & beat Lacy (whom no matter what anyone says now…was a challenge) & that is a comparison to make in regards to the last 10 men?
Gordy…have fun arguing with yourself…you always do especially when it comes to having pissing contests over which Brit has a better record than certain Yanks.
Honestly, since he only has one big name in Jeff Lacy on his resume, yes, he does need another big name maybe even two to be considered as a HOF fighter. To hold that honor you need to have beaten or at least fought against the top fighters of your time that are close to or in the same division as you are. Peter Manfredo does not count as a big name. If Calzaghe wants to go down as an all time great in the Boxing Hall of Fame, he needs to fight Hopkins, Jermaine Taylor, Winky Wright or Roy Jones (which as was already pointed out, would not count as much as if he had fought Jones a few years ago as now Roy's career is deemed to be over by most and he is considered a shadow of his former self). I like Calzaghe too man, I think he boxes brilliantly and has a really cool style. Plus he seems like he is a good person in general, and boxing needs more people that are class acts. Unfortunately I think he just has lingered to long in the UK not being exposed to the very best; that elite competition, most of which exists in the United States. If he wanted to be really considered as the greatest super middle of all time he should have stepped up and come to America to challenge Jones and Toney years ago at super middle or light heavy. Despite what Joe Calzaghe may say, think, or really believe, America has been for a long time and still is the mecca of boxing. The best competition and the best paydays can only be found Stateside and international travel and the relinquishing of the hometown advantage are sacrifices that must be made in return for international recognition and the esteem of being considered one of the greatest in the world and history; and that is what it is to be considered as a Hall of Fame fighter. Since Joe hasnt been fighting those top level opponents all those years, now that he finally towards the end of his career is making the transition to fighting on HBO in front of American fans, he needs to fight and beat some of that top level competition and do it as soon as possible if he wants to be considered for Boxing's Hall of Fame is all I'm saying.Quote:
