Re: I have shin splints guys help
If you can't get to someone who knows what they're talking about 8) Look over these questions.
Lots of people think it's shin splints when it's actually anterior compartment syndrome. Hurts like a mother along the shin but it ain't shin splints.
As Sharla has said going to a proper running shoe store may be able to advise you on the correct shoe for you and the surface you are running on. Also look at runnersworld.com which carries good advice on injuries.
Anterior compartment syndrome
Do you have:
Pain at the front of the lower leg on the outside of the shin bone?
Pain that gradually increases until it becomes impossible to run?
Swelling over the tibialis anterior muscle (on the outside of the shin)?
Pain when the foot and toes are pulled downwards stretching the shin muscles?
Yes / No
Shin splints (medial tibial stress syndrome or periostitis)
Do you have:
Pain on the inside of the shin especially the lower third?
A history of running long distances, sprinting or jumping
