Re: How Would Gerald McClellan do today?
I didn't say Jermain was a better boxer I said he had better "technique"
Re: How Would Gerald McClellan do today?
I dont know bro.. I have seen them both especially Jermain obviously since he is active, and his technique is nothing to write home about, his athleticism has kept him in the fights with Hopkins and Winky, I thought he looked really bad against Ouma and I know Spinks will give him all sorts of problems.. I am starting to get confident enough to do a signature bet with you over Taylor vs Spinks ;) ;D
Re: How Would Gerald McClellan do today?
I'm with you man, I think the G-Man would thrive today. I think Mcclellan could have gone down as one of the greats, I think he had a lot more time to grow and expand moreso as a fighter if not for the injury. Can you imagine how boxing history might have been altered if he won the Benn fight and fought Roy Jones? A guy like Mcclellan would be a huge threat to Jones IMO and it would be great to see them rematched in the pros. It's a damn shame what happened to the G-Man, he was probably one of the most vicious punchers I've ever seen. A real waste

And I think Jones was quite wise to never get in the ring with Nigel Benn !!!!

Nigel Benn was quite wise to not get in the ring with James Toney who Roy had the gull to fight in his FIRST fight at Super Middleweight :)
Re: How Would Gerald McClellan do today?
Benn was a tough customer for anyone, but I think Jones would have outclassed him with his foot movement and his quick combos. I'm a huge fan of Nigel's and I respect him for having the heart of a lion and being one of the most exciting fighters around, but I think he would have been outclassed by Jones or Toney.
Re: How Would Gerald McClellan do today?
McClellan would do very well today at 160 and even 168.
I think McClellan-Calzaghe is interesting to ponder as is McClellan-Hopkins, McClellan-RJJ, McClellan-any young guys at 160.
I think he would just THUMP Miranda, he'd destroy Green, he'd whup Abraham.....he'd beat Jermain Taylor IF JT is as high strung as usual for such big fights.

Spinks won't give him the problems of Ouma. Ouma's entire styel and gameplan is getting inside and throwing lots of punches. Taylor likes to fight at distance. Thats why Ouma could do that.
On the other hand Spinks likes to fight at a distance, Taylor likes to fight at a distance...
What do you think's going to happen? ;)
Re: How Would Gerald McClellan do today?
....also Spinks doesn't have that great of a chin. I think JT might just crack him and put him out.
HOWEVER the jab of JT is the bread and butter of his offense if he uses it successfully he'll win easy. Spinks is crafty though
Re: How Would Gerald McClellan do today?
Gerald was a physical beast. Remember, Benn was one tough SOB...and Gerald knocked him out of the ring early on...and i still believe that if the ref wasn't such a moron, the tragic outcome of that fight would never have happened. He would have given anyone problems. I only wish him and Roy got a chance to face each other...that would have been worth the hype.

MIDDLEWEIGHT
Jermain Taylor- with Taylors propensity to back into corners and the ropes would spell his demise, Gerald knocks him in to tomorrow
Winky Wright- to small and not enough fire power to keep McClellan off of him.. those helacious punches would find there way through the guard
Bernard Hopkins- This one would be interesting due to Hopkins defense and toughness, Hopkins had good power himself, this one would probably be the closest.
Edison Miranda- this one would mirror his fights with Julian Jackson
Arthur Abraham- just plain gets murdered
Felix Strum, Kelly Pavlik, Javier Castillejo all wouldn't make it out of the 3rd round
What are your guys thoughts?
I totaly afree with everything you said...Though Hopkins might be slick enough to win a decision...Though it depends on the night...Yes G-Man would send all these guys in both the Middle and Super middleweight divisions home with their tail between their leg's and thoughts of a new profession

Re: How Would Gerald McClellan do today?

Joe Calzaghe- Joe has the workrate and elusiveness and ability to show angles, I still think Gerald can take him by round 6
Mikkel Kessler- I feel the same what the outcome as I do with the Calzaghe fight
Anthony Mundine- Gone by round 3
Carl Froch- Unless he learns to keep his hands up he aint gonna last 2 long I'll say 1st round KO
Jeff Lacy - Same as Miranda
Allan Green- Gets chased all over the arena through the crowd WWE style until G-man KO's him in the Locker room :biglaugh:
Not trying to be a fanboy but if someone see any of these guys winning please elaborate, I just cant see it happening
Has anyone ever told you your really boring ?
Honestly smokers are jokers !!!
McClelland overated got found out sad end case closed stop going on about 2 fights against someone who was blind in 1 eye !!!
( Julian Jackson )
