Tim had the potential to be great I think but he gave it away by looking terrible against Bonecrusher and Thomas . At least when Tommy Hearns comes back at the same age Tim Witherspoon is that Tommy put his all out in his prime and is a great fighter. But Tim came up short then, and why do we care if he is sparring.
When you're 25 you think that you can continue to do all the bad stuff like eating loads and getting pi***d all the time and still stay in good shape, and I suppose he always thought that "It'll do". When you're nearly 50 I imagine that you realise you can't do all that stuff without getting in the James Toney mould....and that's why he's putting in the tough training now. Not a great mindset, but I guess he was doing enough to get by.

Plus he had drug problems and also problems with Don King he was getting conned out of his money hard to stay in shape when you got that stuff on your mind.

Superheavy. I gave you a coolclick. Good response to my post. I guess my take on Tim was always that I wanted more out of what great skills he had. I always thought that Tim Witherspoon motivated and in shape could beat anyone.. I always thought that. My thinking was that Mike Tyson would not have beaten Tim the way he did Tony Tubbs or Pinklon Thomas. Tim was solid and a big puncher, but he fought with Don and maybe also Don knew that Tim would give Mike a tough fight. But Tim is the only real top fighter of that time who did not fight Mike.

Prime Tim Witherspoon vs Mike Tyson would of been cracker but if 1986 version would of fought Tyson he would of been in big trouble he was getting out of shape he got koed by Bonecrusher and had life and death struggle with Bruno although i consider that Bruno's best performance.

Personally I'd have to add a clause into that with Prime Tim Witherspoon vs Mike Tyson on an off day would have been superb. Tyson was devastating at his best. Thanks for the CC Legend...returned it yesterday. S**t man, when I was 18 all I had to do to keep the weight off was go for a game of soccer on a Sunday afternoon and hit the gym once a week. It don't work seven years on I tell you, so I sympathise with motivational issues!
