If Calzaghe tries to box with Jones Jr. I think he loses most of the rounds because Jones' hooks are better, his combinations are cleaner, quicker, and harder, and his cross is more accurate. I see Jones jumping in and out too quick for Calzaghe to counter. When Calzaghe gets Jones on the rope he throws his slapping combinations with are bludgeoning, but Jones can deal with it, and retaliates with his own combinations that overwhelm Calzaghe. Also Jones will go to the body which will take alot out of Calzaghe. Regardless Calzaghe is 35, and I think Jones can definitely still do it.
Roy is history, he gets clipped on the chin and he gets wobbled. He gets wobbled and then he starts to fight on the defensive. The only man who will be overwhelmed will be Roy, it would take more than a few potshots to beat Joe.
Um he didn't get wobbled by Prine Ajamu or whatever, and his fight against Glen Johnson he took alot of punches before he was taken out. It is still hard to land a clean shot on him, and Tarver caught him as flush as I've seen in both the time he wobbled Jones in their last fight, and in the first fight, but Tarver also hits alot harder than Calzaghe IMO. Calzaghe isn't from what I've seen a guy who unless he already has the guy that comes in balls to wall throwing combinations like crazy going shot for shot. You also forget than Mitchell guy who was not even close to as hard of a hitter as Roy is even now was able to down Calzaghe, and
even Lacy was able to catch Calzaghe enough to stun him a few times. Roy will be able to hit the man at will. Like Julius said if Calzaghe puts too much pressure on there is no way IMO ROy can win at this stage, but I'm not sure Calzaghe will do that.
You know you're really clutching at straws when you have to delve into fantasy ;)
Re: Why Jones could still beat Calzaghe
The formula for beating Jones Jr 07 isnt a complicated one. Throw enough punches and he wont fight back, he'll just stand there and hope the leather stops flying for long enough that he can do some work of his own. Against Prince Ramadamadingdong it did, but he was shite. Glenn Johnson made things simple for himself by not letting up on Jones, you can be sure that Calzaghe would employ the same tactics.

Watch the fight again even in the first round Lacy stuns him.

I don't think its as easy as that, and its not a style that Calzaghe has done all his life which makes it all the harder. Calzaghe likes to come in at timed intervals not all the time, and Roy can catch him if he does that. Also if Roy keeps the distance between them it doesn't matter how many punches Calzaghe throws, and if Calzaghe is just going to come in and throw wild punches then Roy will counter him. I think all Roy needed was a ego booster again, and I believe he got it though undeservingly against his last opponent. He has lost alot of his power, but he is still strong, skilled, and fast enough to beat anyone on the right night.

I find it quite humerous that people take shots at Jones last selection as opponent, when Joe's resume is littered with people like that.... Sakio Bika, Peter Manfredo need I say more ;)

I just find the ramadamadingdong part funny ;D
I think Calzaghe would overwhelm Roy. Would stil be interesting to watch.
Re: Why Jones could still beat Calzaghe
Calzaghe's not a good opponent for Roy because this version of Roy spends way too much time on the ropes, just covering up, and not doing much of anything. Sure he was able to fight pretty well at times off the ropes against Ajamu but that's pretty much irrelevant considering how mediocre Ajamu. He'd have to keep moving against Calzaghe for 12 rounds and he hasn't really done that lately.

Calzaghe would stop him
Re: Why Jones could still beat Calzaghe
Lacy hit Calzaghe and stunned him ?? uhh i think we was watching different fight only way Calzaghe would of got stunned that night is if the ref would of had cheap shot at him and even then he would of got slapped to death 8)

I wasnt knocking him JT, just pointing out that getting away with it against Badi Ajamu and getting away with it against Calzaghe would be entirely different propositions.
Im with the minority that say Lacy stunned Joe, I have no doubt of it infact. Joe imediately dropped his hands and went mental, I thought he was playing a dangerous game at the moment it happened but it turned out alright in the end ;D

Wasnt isolating you on this brutha... Unfortunately Jeff couldnt follow up since Joe's angles, footwork and handspeed were on a different level.. I was hoping Jeff would pin him in the ropes and just rip away since Lacy likes it messy on the inside.. But Joe proved to be too much :-\
Re: Why Jones could still beat Calzaghe
The reason Jones could still beat Calzaghe is it takes only one. Jones hits hard enough, and has the hand speed to land cleanly. Now, other than that, I can't see Roy keeping up with Joe for 12. But, It takes only one.
Re: Why Jones could still beat Calzaghe
Roy won't tire & has more stamina INO than Joe, but the question is, will Joe connect with Roy's chin & can Roy handle that? Or will Jones run 12 rounds over Joe!!!
