Re: Getting Hit On Arms While Sparring
Understand completely, congratulations!
I'm one month out from my next fight. Should peak on time hopefully!
Whens your next one?
Re: Getting Hit On Arms While Sparring
BTW Ice,the whole point of whomping someone on the arms
If you cant get through their guard with a pointing shot,it will slow them down some, and make their arms start to drop

Hitting on/just over the hip does the same for the legs right?

Partly, but if you can do it in a clinch on the side that the ref isnt on,the thighs work even better.Guys who do real well that clinch alot, look at how many times they drop that shot on there. It causes your whole leg to cramp up eventually

Nigel Benn V Chris Eubank is a prime example of that, Eubank went down from it.

Re: Getting Hit On Arms While Sparring
The last line of defence are your arms. The first is movement never forget it. Anything you use for blocking you cant use for punching.
Re: Getting Hit On Arms While Sparring
cc back Ice,go back and watch any of B-hops "dull" fights,he's pounding the other guys thigh like it owes him money.
By the later rounds he just starts out manuevering the other guy
By those later rounds Hopkins can just impose his will by superior mobility
Re: Getting Hit On Arms While Sparring
in relation to the original query I believe the only way to grow accustomed to getting hit on the arms is to get hit on the arms in training. I'm lucky that starting at 10 I grew accustomed before it could hurt too much!
I do suppose that press ups and pull ups would help to harden all of the soft muscle tissue and ease the pain also.

Re: Getting Hit On Arms While Sparring
Work on pics and deflections against his punches. I don't know what kind of strength training you do on your arms, but getting hit in that area is just part of boxing ...a lot better then the ribs.
