;D
1 as much as i hate to do it i have to give him the nod as the most accomplished fighter of the 90's therefore the best fighter. he kayied buster douglas easy right after he brutalized tyson to start the decade and then had 3 amazing fights with a prime, focused riddick bowe, winning one and not disgracing himself one bit in the other two, despite bowe being far bigger, much younger, and more talented physically than him. he also beat lennox in that second fight at the end of the decade despite what the scoring said, and leenox was just a hair past his prime and holy was just about worn out. he also beat foreman, holmes, kayoed mike tyson, murcer, split fights with a prime moorer. he won the title 3 times in the decade.
2 lennox lewis--was underated before he hit the big time. he beat holy in the first fight even though vander was past it and got jobbed with a draw..he was also probably the most active big time heavy in the 90's he destroyed ruddock, morrison, golota, and shannon briggs. also beat bruno. tucker, akinwande, mercer embarrassd mcall in ther second fight, whipped biggs easy, and beat a very underrated mavrovic. again not his fault he was ducked either.
3 tyson --actually mike had a very underrated 90's IMO. he reagained the title and also beat a prime, dangerous razor ruddock 2x. also destroyed bruno, seldon, and kayoed botha with one shot. he was also on the cusp of kayoing holy b4 he lost his mind. u have to give hm the nod over bowe and old timers like foreman and holmes for reasons ill state below.
4 riddick bowe--he beat a prime holy clean in a great 1st encounter and won the series 2 to 1. that alone gets him in this spot and ahead of moorer. also thomas biggs seldon tubbs dokes is a decent lineup of guys also 2 "official" wins over a prime golota no matter what the circumstances. it was a brief run but when he was great he was truly great.
5 michael moorer--i know he got kayoed by george foreman, but he got a clean win over a near prime holyfield and was kicking georges behind up until he ran into a right hand. he also regained the title in the 90's as well and had clean wins over botha and a very underrated prime axel schultz.
6 george foreman---would have been higher but had too many losses. his only real good win in the 90's was based on a hail mary punch on the soft whiskers of michael moorer who was handing him his big fat old behind up until then. but he was active and had success. a spirited points loss to a prime holy shouldnt dimiish him, but losses to soft chinned guys like morrison and briggs hurt him. also got a gift in schultz fight when he clearly got beat. aslo took a hellacious beating from alex stewart who everyone else on this list except lewis kayoed. (lewis would have if he got the chance).
7 larry holmes--the other old dude cracks the top ten by going the distance with prime holy and prime mcall , probably deserving the mcall nod. combine that with whippping a prime ray murcer. remember mcall just got done handing lennox his scalp and murcer destroyed morrison so these were both dangerous fights for anyone especially a granddaddy.
8 oliver mcall--kayoing a prime lennox lewis with one punch gets him in the top ten. beating an old yet still effective larry holmes helps and so does a one round kayo of oleg maskaev. also kayoed bruce seldon and francesco damiani.
9 ray murcer--gave prime holy and lewis hellacious battles. many think he deserved the nod in both , particularly against lewis. also, had a highlight reel kayo of tommy morrison, who was unbeaten and on the way up in a hurry at the time. also kayoed damiani. just so uneven. losing to jesse ferguson, and old holmes, drawing with marion wilson. could have had a much better career, but at his best was a tough out and a world class heavy.
10 tommy morrison--tough pick, with alot of guys like golta and briggs around , but tommy did alot in the nineties. razor ruddock , a clean win over foreman, thomas, tillis, joe hipp, truth williams. did more than briggs, and even though golota beat thecrap out of a near prime bowe 2x he still got dq's and disgraced himself both times, so i cant give him alot of credit for that even though he was a true talent physically in his prime.
homorable mention:
golota, briggs, tua, ibeabuchi, ruddock, bruno
Lewis has to be 1. Beat Holyfield twice, regardless of how it was scored, and he had already beaten Bowe at the olympics. Bowe ducked him, and had to give up the belt. Bowe is a bitch. Give him credit for coming to fight against Holy, but he's still a bitch.
I think Evander beat the most of the top fighters, but Lennox beat the best in a more impressive fashion and dominated more than Evander. Evander would give a good fight and he would lose to Moorer, and then beat Moorer in the rematch. I think my list would be
Lennox Lewis
Evander Holyfield
Riddick Bowe
Mike Tyson
George Foreman.
i still think a prime lewis and tyson wouldnt have much trouble koing big george.....he was very slow and ponderous in his prime and lewis and tyson match him for power but tyson especially was to fast for foreman... just IMO 8)Quote:
