Re: De L Hoya and Mayweather both need the win to be considerd ALL TIME GREATS!!!
I don't think neither one is an all time great, as much as i like oscar imo he has miss out on big wins over tito bhop and mosley. I think oscar really needs to realize he can't let another great win get away when he fights floyd he has done it against tito and mosley. imagin if he got those wins now, he would really be a great and adding floyd would cement that.
but so far i think oscars biggest wins are pernell whittaker, and two wins over old JCC. I would include vargas but i always thought he was overhype, i would include ike but that was such a close fight. oooh and the fight with felix sturm doesn't help either.
So imo i can't say oscar is an all time great. His popularity would have the average fun think his an all time great though.
As for floyd i think his biggest win are against chico and castillo. I think chico is great but he use his heart more then his brains so i think his the gatti in oscars resume. as for castillo i thought he actually beat floyd the first fight but floyd dominated him the second time. to make things short. floyd hasn't beaten any fighter like a pernell whittaker or a JCC and oscar has but still i dont' consider oscar a great so most def i won't consider floyd one.
To be fair Floyd has the skills to potential be an all time great but he has wasted his time on lesser fighter so i can't say he really is until he proves it against better oppenents.
Re: De L Hoya and Mayweather both need the win to be considerd ALL TIME GREATS!!
Oscar is a multiple world champ and although he has losses to Trinidad and Mosley his legacy is assured.
He has also been great for boxing these past ten years and it doesn't matter if you like him or not, he has fought the best out there probably when he didn't have to.
He was robbed against Trinidad and the second Mosley fight was really his.
I believe he has only lost two fights, Mosley 1 and Hopkins. Mayweather needs his scalp more DLH needs his. If Mayweather wins this week then he deserves all credit due to him because the odds are stacked against him in this fight. His legacy depends on this result, a loss means it's back to 147lb and two years of cleaning up Cotto, Margo and whoever else challenges him.
