The thing is...money is a necessary evil...just as the organizations, promoters, & committees are.
In the end...I don't care about what Oscar & Floyd make...just as long as it does good for boxing...& anyone that says it didn't do good...well...you shoulda been there & seen it & heard the reactions.
That fight generated interest on the pages of my little small country a** newspaper almost everyday of the week for two weeks up to the fight.
I'm probably the only person on the planet that doesn't see anything wrong with the current flux thta everyone says the sport is in.
^^^ Very well said... I guess their are many ways you can look at it, and from many perspectives the money is great for boxing... And these guys that strap on gloves for a living and duke it out with some of the most respected fighters in the world deserve every cent they get...
Also CC for the comments on the middle classes. Their are a tonne of great fighters their that paired up with make great fights! As long as people like this keep coming up, their will always be PLENTY of entertainment for anyone who wants to watch..
The subject for this thread really was just an attention grabber and was kind of the theme of the article I read..
But don't get me wrong, I love boxing just as much now as I could ever have,,,,, a$$ loads of money or not!!!!
Thanks for the input though everyone!
If anyone is losing faith in boxing, they need to come here and get a dose of enthusiasm from people who will keep passion in boxing, even if boxing itself lost it...
Re: Is money ruining boxing?
Wacko. yep that is a formula which has always worked, have a few guys fighting at a lower division and then 2 divisions up (or one in the old days) have a legit champion who the smaller guys move up and try to topple. It started with Hopkins but the guys like Mosley and Oscar moved up a little too late in Hopkins career to make good fights or round robins.
Re: Is money ruining boxing?
Don't forget. Poverty is directly related to heart. Erase the poverty and you will erase the heart. I have no problem with guys making a buck off boxing. I have a problem with all the divisions and categories that are useless. Make it one governing body and one belt per weight class. Don't make fights on money alone, mandatory defences against the top ten ranked boxers only. That would spark a boxing revival
Re: Is money ruining boxing?
Money is ruining boxing, baseball, basketball, etc...
