Jones was a great fighter. No doubt. But his opposition was not that great outside of Toney and McCallum (old). Spinks had great opposition. He made Qawi emotionally quit after Qawi took the right hand.
Roy dealt with akward styles well if they had 3 fights Jones would definetly win 2 out of 3.Quote:

This is a UD win for prime Jones jr, how would he go against Bob Foster?
Foster was a wicked puncher and as we all know now Jones when hit stayed hit!
Quawi quit in a few fights, and a totally different fighter than Roy. Also Roy had a lot of solid opponents. How many great fighters did Michael SPinks fight at 175? Also Roy would have beaten LHW Quawi a lot worse, and I always thought Quawi was a better cruiser than LHW.Quote:

Anyway, I am not sure Spinks opposition was much less than Jones. Jones did not fight a few cream of the crop guys he could have. I just think this fight is a pickem fight. Jones did beat Bernard who was young when he fought him, he beat Toney... His best win. . But Spinks fought much much much better heavyweight opposition. I do not really regard beating Ruiz as much of anything at heavyweight. Spinks did beat Holmes twice and even going the distance with Holmes twice was tough I would think.
Michael Spinks fought a few good guys, and Hearns was far past his prime and best weight class. I think Holmes won both fights personally, but also Spinks' style worked better against Holmes who is a very jab oriented fighter. Roy throws different punches from different angles every time, and he has way more speed than anyone Spinks fought to go along with more skill.
wow ....great question....I'm leaning toward RJ in UD....Spinks might even put him down, but lose to many rounds to a busier fastier opponent.
Fastier? ANyways even Bert Sugar conceded to say that Roy would have beaten every LHW except maybe Conn and Charles though I say he would beat both.
thought it was a boxing forum not a grammar class...thanks for correction though dork ::**
Spinks was pretty fast himself. Holmes should have beaten Spinks when he fought him, but Spinks did that ridiculous babystep style which did get him the win. which shows how versatile Spinks was to change his style and to outbox Holmes. It would have been a great fight and Jones would have to be aware of Spinks right hand the whole time.Quote:
