Well I think Amir Khan is of Pakistani descent, somewhere near there and he should be one of the best boxers in the world within a few years. The Yemen had Naseem as well.
I guess they just don't have the infrastructure in their home lands ???

The first pro-boxing event in Sweden in 37 years was held just this January. I think the regulations are still very strict though, and a bit of internet searching suggests that every fight must be for a maximum of 12 minutes. Also, according to boxrec practically every fight in the two events that have taken place so far have been 4-rounders (with the exception of one female boxing fight).
As for the rest of Scandinavia - boxing is legal in Finland (some of you might know Amin Asikainen, who sometimes fight at home turf) and here in Denmark. It is still illegal in Norway, and the parliament just rejected a motion to follow Sweden's example and turn over the ban. I am not entirely sure about Iceland, but I have never heard of an Icelandic fighter, and according to boxrec there has never been staged a fight there either.
Here in Denmark we have somewhat benefited from the ban in other Nordic countries, as a fair bit of the best Swedish and Norwegian fighters have fought out of Denmark (e.g. 80'es heavyweights Anders Eklund (Sweden) Steffen Tangstad (Norway)). However the ban has obviously hurt the sport in these countries, and most people on this forum will probably be hard pressed to mention a Swedish fighter this side of Ingemar Johansson or a Norwegian fighter at all.

I thought about this myself a few times..
They obv are commi's so they cant turn pro.. But they have so much time to practice as amatuers they are excellent fighters..When castro pops his clogs i look forward to seeing a surgance of good cuban professional fighters

There are a few on their way already. Heavyweight Odlanier Solis (http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=391766), Featherweight Yuriorkis Gamboa (http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=391770) and Super Bantamweigt Yan Barthalemy (http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=391769) all defected Cuba last December, and have since turned pro (in Germany).
All three won olympic gold in Athens, and they should be able to make some waves in their divisions. Solis especially - he is fighting in boxing's premier division, his amateur record is outstanding, having also won 2 world titles (in 2001 beating Sultan Ibragimov in the semi, David Haye in the final), and at 27 he doesnt have the time to wait too long before making moves. They are all fighting tonight btw (their second fight as pro).
Also another defected Cuban, who will be interesting to follow is Cruiserweight prospect Yoan Pablo Hernandez (http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=324252). 22 years old, 10-0 against decent opposition. Figting next week against seasoned Norwegian Thomas Hansvoll (25-3-2).
