I haven't seen this fight in a looooong time.
If I'm not mistaken Licata had a loss already in his record by the time he met in the ring with Monzon.
I know this because Monzon never faced and undefeated fighter during his reign as a champ.
Just thought I'd point that out.
Oh! and I agree, Licata should have never been let out after the 7th round.

Thanks Mick, just guessing I just go on memory.

Re: How great was Carlos MONZON
I just watched the 2nd fight today on my I-Pod while I was in the restroom at work. ;D
I never get tired of seeing it. Many people felt the towel came in a bit too early but I think it came in at the right time. There was no need for Ben to be taking those shots. He was gonna go down and stay down sooner or later might as well stop it.
At first Ben was mad and bothered but in the post fight interview he tell Cosell that he understood that his corner was thinking about him as a friend and someone who they care about. So he was OK with the decision of his corner.

Later on wasnt it benvenutti that admittd "when he hit me its not that i thought i was going to get knocked out, i thought i was going to die."
