CC# 468 Daxx and it means a lot coming from you.
I think he had just started his prime, I would say his coming out prime fight was the Gomez victory.

It was a close fight coming into the 11th round but Nelsons face was begining to show signs of being hit and hard.
Great fight all in all.
Thanks for taking the time to comment ICB.

Yo mick, just wondering outta all the great feathers through history who would you have liked to see Sanchez battle?
For me it would be Saddler!

There was talk of him fighting Arguello and Gomez rematch them 2 fights would of been classics you can bet on that.
By the way where is my manners ?? i forgot to :coolclick: you Mick sorry about that i was in a rush earlier had to do something i have seen quite a few Sanchez fights but his fight with Lopez was boxing masterclass you won't see much better boxing than that.
And also Mick i was wondering if you could answer me a question because you seem to have alot of knowledge on Sanchez i did hear he had no amateur fights or only like a couple ?? if thats true Sanchez has got to be one of the most gifted boxers ever to lace em up he was beating atg in his early 20s for crying out loud thats amazing.

I would say Alexis Arguello because the fight was in theory so close to happening.
But def. Saddler would be up there in the list. What a match up of styles that would be?
Other fighters whom I would have loved to see against Sanchez would be 'Puas' Olivares, Saldivar and MAB.

Story has it he did fight a couple of times but they were not counted as amateur fights nor is there any record of them.
That is the reason why people say he had soo much talent and room to improve. I personally think he was just in the early stages of his prime other people think differently. He was so naturally gifted along with being very smart in the ring.
Re: ~ 25 Years ago Today on July 21st, 1982 ~
He was in his prime IMO but who really knows for sure?
One of the most awesome fighters to ever set foot in the ring!
Re: ~ 25 Years ago Today on July 21st, 1982 ~
:coolclick: Mick great read. Sanchez was something special. He achieved greatness in his lifetime, but I cant even imagine what he would have gone on to do.

Really appreciate it. :)

In retrospect it shows also what a great fighter Azumah was. With only so few fights to take on a legend like Sanchez and doing so well.
Re: ~ 25 Years ago Today on July 21st, 1982 ~
I just read this tribute again and i have to say you are a champ yourself Mick.
There was a lot of thought put into it and as a boxing fan i'm grateful to you for this fantastic insight into one of the all time greats in the sport of boxing.
Thanks again!

Completely agree here Dark,
I can't stress enough how many times I've read where people try to down play Sanchez by saying that he beat a prospect in Nelson or that Nelson was not ready for a fight of that caliber.
Well watch the fight and tell me Nelson fought like a prospect. Or that he fought like someone with 13 fights....
Nelson stood up to a P4P fighter at that time and a great that IMO was in his prime and gave 'em one helluva fight.

Thanks a lot man, really. I mean that.
I really put some effort into it, to be honest it took me about a week to get it together my original article (if you wanna call it that) was pretty damn! long. I had done a rd. by rd. of the fight along with parts of what you see. But then I asked myself how many people are really gonna read a loooooong as article? So I decided to cut the rd. by rd. down to the best rounds and add my own voice to it.
I wrote it in pencil and then typed it in Word, cause I can't tell you how many times I type a good comment and then the page goes on time out and I loose everything that I typed.
Again, thanks.... 8)

Totally agree with that Mick it reminded me of Tim Witherspoon vs Holmes i think Witherspoon had only 15 pro fights and only started boxing at 22 yet he fought Holmes at 25 only having 15 pro fights and gave him one hell of a fight and could of gone either way Witherspoon fought like a complete pro just like Nelson did with Sanchez.
