The interesting part of that quote?
Its a longer flight Philly to LA,where Bernard has fought repeatedly
Interesting
America is a pretty big place
Woulda never of guessed.
Philly and LA are not only very far apart physically, theyre even further mentally
Might as well be a seperate planet
Re: Calzaghe says Hokins has to wait
I wouldnt go over to Hopkins backyard he will certainly yet robbed if it goes to points which it probably will.

100% AGREED .Why should he fight in the States when he can make more money where he is. If somebody offered yo a job overseas doing the ssame thing you are doing now for less money would you do it?
Maybe he will fight in Yankee stadium just so I can drive up and see him. Thanks Joe.LOL
When a basketball/baseball/hockey/football player starts nearing the end of his career, and he doesn't have a championship, what does he do?
He takes a pay cut and goes to the team that is most likely to win a championship! WHY? because at that point it isn't about money, it's about being a champion in everyones eyes, and getting that championship ring or cup.
This is the point in Calzaghe's career where he shouldn't be AS worried about money, and he should take the big name fights regardless of where they are. THEN he can be the champion he
THINKS he is already.
You can't make the comparison that you made about someone offering you a job overseas for less money, simply because you're comparing two different classes of people. If you're referring to someone who has to raise a family, then no they wouldn't take a pay cut, AND travel overseas, it wouldn't make any sense.
But when you're referring to a world boxing champ who is on national TV, has fans and PLENTY of critics watching him, and should already have LOADS of money, you're in a completely different conversation.
So using that logic why should Calzaghe be the one expected to travel?
Maybe cuz he's been running his mouth for years that he wants to come to the States. Or was it something that just sounded good? When is the last time you heard Hopkins saying he wants to go over seas? Never. Cuz he does not need to go. Hopkins is a already a Hall of Fame fighter. His legacy is set. Calzaghe? I'm pretty sure he'll make it to the WBO Hall of Fame. Right next to that dead guy who moved up in the rankings from his grave.

And I guess Ottke vs Reid was a great show of neutrality?
Re: Calzaghe says Hokins has to wait
If Kessler beats Joe, then what do you guys and gals think will happen?? Most seem to think it's a foregone conclusion that Joe will win and already trying to figure out the next move after; but what if Mikkel wins? Who do you think will be in his sights, or vice-versa??? I personally am hoping Allen Green keeps coming strong as I would love a Kessler/Green fight.

Wouldnt be shocked if Mikkel goes after Berrio to put all the belts back together,or Mundine

Apparently you completely missed the point? i don't know.. the point was that he needs to do what he needs to do to become this great champion that he feels he is. and if that is crossing seas then thats what he needs to do.
I don't know if you've followed sports in the past decade, but a few examples could be when Payton/Malone went to the Lakers to form a disgusting team in hopes to win the ring.. or when Ray Bourque went to the Avalanche in hopes to win the cup.. Junior Seau is now on the Pats, got injured last year but is coming back this year.. These guys took a huge pay cut so that they could be in the winning team.
You shouldn't sad click due to your own stupidity of not understanding what i was trying to say.. you should understand before disagreeing..
The logic is that regardless of Joe being the "Champ" and ideally, people should be coming to him to fight the champ.. my point was that instead he shouldn't be bitching and moaning about the money that Bhop wanted or the money that he won't be getting in certain fights.. instead he should be worrying about defeating the best, regardless...

And thank you VD.. that's exactly what i'm trying to say..
As far as Hopkins goes.. if Kessler beats Calzaghe i wouldn't even think of expecting to see a fight against Hopkins right away, or possibly ever.. Hopkins wants to fight the people who have been the best and have the biggest names. If Hopkins beat Kessler, it would be a terrific win, but it would look more impressive on his resume if he beat someone who defended the belt just as many times as he did as a Middleweight.

If I were as concerned about my legacy as Joe is, I would. That's largely why American audiences barely know who he is--he hasn't left his back yard. The truth of it is, while Joe can pack 'em in way more over there than here, boxing is way more popular over here. America is where champions are forged into memory. Joe wants to be a part of that pantheon then maybe he needs to take a smaller paycheck or two.
Re: Calzaghe says Hokins has to wait
it makes sense, Calzaghe fights Kessler and Hopkins fights Roy Jones. If they both win then they fight each other.
Shame all that will never happen.
Re: Calzaghe says Hokins has to wait
Good for joe...we've been waiting and waiting and finally the kessler deal is done....now everyone wants to fight him.
Re: Calzaghe says Hokins has to wait
Hopkins has the much better record, that is why Joe should travel. Bernard has beaten two elite fighters in his last to fights, Joe hasnt beaten one in his 40+ fights.
Re: Calzaghe says Hokins has to wait
calzaghe should just focus on kessler fight because man he is gona have his hand s full getting past kessler......great fight matchup and cant wait for nov bout kessler to win by knockout....calzaghe is a great fighter but kessler just a little bit more classy and explosive
Re: Calzaghe says Hokins has to wait
Bernard's smokin' crack if he thinks he can sell out Yankee Stadium.
Re: Calzaghe says Hokins has to wait
b/c regardless of who you think is the better fighter, you really can't argue with who is the more accomplished champion and bigger name, that being Bhop...Neither guy really needs the other, but a sound win over BHop would silence a lot of Calzaghes doubters....A win over the Pavlik/JT winner would be a big help to his legacy but with Bernard you know your fighting a for sure legend
