I was actually just thinking about making a thread about this. CC. The guy never gets talked about. If what's his name, the big clumsy guy that fought Wlad two times ago can get a shot, why not Thompson. This might not say good things about American heavyweights but he might be the best out there and nobody mentions him.
You're probably right about the other guys. I guess Povetkin is the only real wild card.
I don't think many Heavys wanna mix it up with Thompson cause hes a high risk, low reward fighter.
He's beaten some decent names but hasn't made much noise off the wins.
So I really don't see any one of the top guys fighting Thompson unless he becomes someones mandatory :beat:

His win over Krusneqi was a WBO eliminator so I'm guessing he's Ibragimov's mandatory. If so he probably gets a shot at the winner of Ibragimov Chagaev and if so imo he goes from an unknown to holding two belts overnight.
Then Wlad would have to fight him pretty much and a win there could leave Thompson as the universally recognised undispited heavyweight champion of the world.
Stranger things have happened........

Anybody watch Chazz Witherspoon be less than impressive last night? I always forget the kids name, but the young up and coming cruiser is talking about jumping to HW and has had 1-2 fights here and there in the HW division lately. Might end up being a player

Great question, he seems to talk a lot about unifying the titles, but somehow the other two Russians, who's names I'm not even going to try to spell, are getting it done. I don't think this IBF tournament is a done deal yet either. We need a Heavyweight Unifiacation Tournament. Not a friggin IBF tournament

IBF tournament- Povetkin, Chambers, Brock, & Bryd
From Dan Rafael of ESPN
http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/box...dan&id=2959700
In a search for heavyweight titleholder Wladimir Klitschko's next mandatory challenger, the IBF plans to sanction a four-man tournament with the winner earning a title shot. If the IBF has its way, the field will include Calvin Brock (31-1, 23 KOs) and former titlist Chris Byrd (40-3-1, 21 KOs), both of whom were knocked out by Klitschko last year, along with American up-and-comer Eddie Chambers (29-0, 16 KOs) and Alexander Povetkin (13-0, 9 KOs), the 2004 Russian Olympic gold medalist. If the proposed fights come off -- which is certainly not set in stone -- Byrd would face Povetkin with Brock facing Chambers. The winners will fight with that winner earning a fight with Klitschko. Chambers and Povetkin are all for it. "This is the opportunity I've been looking for," Chambers said. "It's sort of like the NFL playoffs. Win a couple of rounds and get to the Super Bowl against Wladimir Klitschko. That's just what I intend to do -- not only get to the Super Bowl, but win it too, a world heavyweight title. But my focus and attention right now is preparing for my semifinal opponent, Calvin Brock." Said Kalle Sauerland, Povetkin's co-manager: "This is the chance Alexander has been waiting for. We have no doubt he will prevail in this interesting tournament."

Re: IBF tournament- Povetkin, Chambers, Brock, & Bryd
For the good of the division I really hope that it is Povetkin and Chambers that come out of this tournament with plenty of credit, and either of those winning a title shot would be good, because Brock and Byrd have already, for my money, been exposed as not quite good enough.

Re: IBF tournament- Povetkin, Chambers, Brock, & Bryd
So good match-ups. I would have preferred to see the younger guys fight one of the experienced guys 1st. Then if they were victorious there Povetkin & Chambers could have meet to see who fights Klitschko.
Anyone know what Wlad is doing during this time? Chagaev may now be free as he pulled out of his bout with Ibragimov. Most of the top heavies seem to be tied up, don't know who's gonna be available to fight Wlad!

Byrd or Brock should be replaced by Thompson
