The 1st Vargas fight was getting close, but to say VArgas was gonna KO Shane ??? What a load of Shat, Believe me if someone was gonna fade down the stretch in that fight it was Fernado Vargas
The 2nd fight, Vargas was completely shot
This I dont understand at all ??? If Vargas was dominating the 2nd half of their 1st fight and was gonna KO Shane, then how how could Vargas be completely shot when he fought Shane in an immediate rematch ??? I dont quite understand your logic
How can you say Colazzo is overrated ??? he is a young hungry top 147 fighter and a slick south paw with good skills. Its like your trying to do damage control for Shane losing... Believe me Cotto is not gonna beat Mosely! So its not necessary
Nobody is doing damage control. I still see Mosley winning by a decision against Cotto.
I was just posting this for discussion.
Anybody who says that Vargas looked the same in the 2nd fight as he did in the first needs to have their head examined. Vargas was still a solid contender at the end of their first fight, but as of the 2nd, everyone said he's washed up real bad and needs to retire.
And yes...............
I don't think much of Collazo other than he caught Hatton on the worst night of Hatton's career.

Well call the doctor and schedule my examination, because I dont follow how if Vargas didnt fight in between the rematch how could he have fallen off the table even worse ??? Dosent make sense to me.

Well do you remember that Vargas never wanted the rematch and only did it for the money?
The first time they fought, Vargas WANTED to fight.
The second time they fought, Vargas went on record saying he didn't want a rematch but ended up doing it for the money.
This will ring a bell to some members who read this.

Mayweather avoiding Shane ?? you can't win with some people if Mayweather was fighting Mosley you would say Mayweather was ducking Hatton im sure if Mosley wins his fight vs Cotto that he will get his shot.
I think people believe Floyd should be fighting every month. It's bollocks. I'm not a Floyd fan but he's hardly ducking people. As for Mosley, he's a great fighter, but I believe Cotto will take him. Great fight though, glad it's being made.
Re: Is Shane Mosley really that big of a deal anymore, or is he just a big name?
your forgetting how big vargas is, hes huge compared to mosely

i'm one of mayweather's biggest supporters and even i know he's ducking shane...
i could care less if he beats hatton, because hatton is nothing more than a strong version of gatti and floyd won't get much credit for taking him to school like gatti...hatton will miss a lot of leaping left hooks and eat leather all night long...shane has and always will be the one with realistic chance of beating mayweather...at 147 shane beats floyd easily with his work rate alone..floyd can't win he he doesn't punch and his work rate isn't that high at 147 and he's great but he stand in the pocket and make shane miss..if shane connects it will show weather floyd can bang with a true boxer-puncher....
Thats total rubbish Hatton is way above Gatti in class Hatton beat top world class fighters Gatti never did and i think its bit early to say Mayweather is ducking Mosley if Mosley beats Cotto i gurantee you Mosley will get his shot because Cotto and Mosley are both deserving so let them fight eachother to see who really is the proper one to fight Mayweather.
shane beats floyd easily with his work rate alone..
Floyd has never struggled with workrate.

Well put. CC
The word "prime" gets tossed around on here a lot. For many, it seems like prime=height of physical abilities. In some cases, that might be true. But when a great fighter loses a step physically, often he learns to compensate in the thinking end of the fight game. SSM is a good example of a very intelligent fighter who is not quite as young as he once was, but who's still very capable in the ring. I think he's not so far gone that he can't make adjustments and give Cotto one hell of a fight.
I wouldn't be surprised to see this match go to either fighter - SSM on skill and experience, or Cotto on tenacity and aggression.
Re: Is Shane Mosley really that big of a deal anymore, or is he just a big name??
Unless Shane has really gotten out of his groove, I just can't see Cotto beating him. I see his face looking as bad as Vargas' by the 6th or 7th round, and think Shane will redefine the term hitting from angles. In a way I want Mosley to win because I really want him and Floyd to fight, but on the other hand I'd like to see Cotto take it and maybe become the new young lion in the division.
Re: Is Shane Mosley really that big of a deal anymore, or is he just a big name??
Mosley showed in the Collazo fight that he's still a great fighter. Cotto will be a tougher assignment than Collazo. But I still lean towards Mosley on points.
Re: Is Shane Mosley really that big of a deal anymore, or is he just a big name?
I just want to respond to the comment that sugar been calling floyd out for a while now, he has but at the same time PB has called him out first but sugar wasn't didn't to fight him. He was talking about going on vacation and thinking about it with his wife. I love Sugar but he is a pu$$y when it come to his wife. :-X I think she is the reason he didn't want to fight him at first. He I think he is a legend and has one of the biggest hearts i ever seen on a fighter. He still got a lot left in the tank and will kick Cotto A$$ I just hope he give his wife the boot next.
Re: Is Shane Mosley really that big of a deal anymore, or is he just a big name?
It's a testament to his incredible athleticism that Shane is still so fast and strong...even at his age. The man is a great boxer and carries himself with class. He still has plenty left in the tank to be a tremendous task for ANY fighter he faces. I think in his last few fights he has gone back to throwing more combo's and looks more fluid than he has in a long time. He become enamored with trying to hurt people with one punch in recent years. But he seems to be fighting better all around than he has in many years. I think he will simply have too much skill, athleticism, and experience for Cotto to handle. If everything works out...hopefully him and Floyd will finally fight in the near future (before Shane gets too old).
Re: Is Shane Mosley really that big of a deal anymore, or is he just a big name?
I think Vargas was coming back in the first fight and it was a coin toss as to who would have got the decision but Mosley was the smart fighter and worked vargas's eye all credit to him. The second fight Vargas had weight trouble and yes he was a shot fighter, he should have hung the gloves up right there. Mosley isn't a shot fighter and still has a bit left in the tank but i think Cotto is gonna knock his ass out. Cotto has only gotten better since he moved up to 147lbs and he cuts the ring off very effectively. Trust me Cotto will rip the shit out of his body and finish the fight in RD 10, hell i think this will be fight of the year. Cotto will get knocked down by Mosley early tho as he will be too excited and try n take Shanes head off and catch a counter. Cotto will come back tho cause hes a warrior and want it so bad. As for Mosley beating Floyd i cant see it myself. Mayweather is such an amazing boxer he can adapt to almost any style and turn the fight in his favor without losing too many rounds. Do you seriously think Mayweather would just coast if he was getting out worked? The only reason Floyd doesn't put out a high work rate is because he hasn't needed to. In the De La Hoya fight all of de la hoya's punches were being blocked and Floyd's landed he was being efficient with his punches whereas de la hoya just let the combo's go and he gassed out. Against Mosley Floyd would be a lot busier and would probably stand up close and counter as Mosley shots got blocked. Shane throws in spurts now so Floyd ll just block the flurry's and mount his own offense.

Dream on. Cotto has been put on his ass by fighters with a lot less speed, power. and skill than Shane. Shane also can hit the body hard, he will be way faster, has a much better chin....and even at his age will be better conditioned. If it's war...Cotto will be the one catching a beatdown by a superior boxer/athlete (unless he want to take a few cheap shots to Shane's crotch). Shane can bang and he can also pick him apart from numerous different angles. Say what you want about Vargas...but he is a BIG, strong, and stubborn guy...and he got viciously knocked down by Mosely. Should be a great fight...but Cotto will be the one in trouble.
Re: Is Shane Mosley really that big of a deal anymore, or is he just a big name?
Shane Mosley is a big deal and a big name, until someone kicks his ass in the ring and he retires he definately deserves a shot against Cotto and if he wins then Floyd.
Mosley would be in everyone's top 10 Lightweight Champions of all time lists and he has been a great Welterwight Champion with two wins against a prime DLH.
His major problem is age and he will be 36 by fight time and the reality is in boxing as much as all of us don't like to say it, he is one fight away from being shot. He is going up against a younger warrior in Cotto
nine years his junior and it won't be easy. I know we will get a good fight because Mosley is in it!!
