After reading quite a few of your posts you seem to have great knowledge of fighter's that's why the 'mover' comment shocked me a little ;)
Your spot on about Morrison during the Foreman fight he boxed great that night.

I sort of agree but Louis's opposition wern't that great i think it was probably worse than Holmes opposition in his reign im not taking anything away from Louis but you know Lyle Louis reign wern't filled with greats but to be fair to Louis he didn't duck anyone and you can only beat the guys in front of you.
That's also why I rate Marciano highly as well.
Joe Louis did what he did so easily and it sort of makes everyone forget that he did fight some good boxers: Max Baer, Max Schmelling, Joe Walcott, Billy Conn, Jim Braddock, Jimmy Bivins, Jack Sharkey.....that's not too shabby right there.
Joe fought often and he fought consistently and he holds actual records....Ali does not.
As I said before this match between Ali and Foreman pits the best BOXER vs the best SLUGGER....on talent alone I am more amazed by Foreman, not to say Ali didn't do amazing things.
Re: Greatest Heavyweight of All-Time, Final: Muhammed Ali vs. George Foreman
Ali wins and is the greatest heavyweight and Joe Louis is second. Holmes third?
Re: Greatest Heavyweight of All-Time, Final: Muhammed Ali vs. George Foreman
How is Joe Louis not in the final four?

Good question....methinks people voted for him to be beat by Larry Holmes.
My list won't change until someone tremendously good comes along
1. Joe Louis
2. Rocky Marciano
3. Muhammed Ali
That is the way it'll always line up for me....no offense to Ali but of course the Ali fans will want my head on a spit because of it.
Re: Greatest Heavyweight of All-Time, Final: Muhammed Ali vs. George Foreman
I really enjoyed this 'competition' ...... and agree that Ali is the Greatest heavyweight if all time.
BUt, I do also think that Joe Louis was the BEST heavyweight of all time.
Ali was better at publicity, came along at the right time, got hooked into social issues, plugged into the huge media expansion at the time, heralded the golden age of heavyweight boxing - and Louis didn't ....... but I still think he was a better fighter (IMO)
Re: Greatest Heavyweight of All-Time, Final: Muhammed Ali vs. George Foreman
lol it's not really up for voting is it? ali whooped big george when ali was on the slide...

Because it stops the same old Louis vs Ali in the final and because Holmes would beat Louis imo and alot of people favored that idea aswell.
Re: Greatest Heavyweight of All-Time, Final: Muhammed Ali vs. George Foreman
Joe Louis had weaknesses such as starting slowly, or getting knocked down early, weighing under 200lb, vulnerable to the right hand, could be out boxed by very good fighters, which could have been exploited by other great fighters but he was a great champion nonetheless.
Don't let me get started on Rocky Marciano.
Ali would have beaten both the fact that he beat 3 great fighter in their primes in his era just cements the argument.
Re: Greatest Heavyweight of All-Time, Final: Muhammed Ali vs. George Foreman
Looks like Ali is the 'Greatest' :)
Thanks Sugar Shaw for running this competition CC+ from me.
Great debating and knowledge all round.
