Re: Mayweather vs Hopkins : The Boss
this is hard to decide because hopkins has faced against better fighters than mayweather but mayweather is undeafeated. hopkins had 20 successful middleweight title defences and also a light heavyweight champ but mayweather has held world titles in five different weight classes.
i can't decide
Re: Mayweather vs Hopkins : The Boss
This is an easy one: Mayweather. He hasn't had a fight that's even been close in the last 5 years (no, the ODH fight wasn't close just because one blind judge had it horribly wrong). Hopkins, on the other hand, had two close fights with Taylor (I thought he won the first one, but it was close; and I thought he legitimately lost the second), and then, after an impressive win over a sliding Antonio Tarver, had a highly controversial victory over Wright (I thought he won, barely, but it was entirely due to dirty fighting and was far from impressive).
Don't get me wrong, I think Hop has the better legacy at this point when you look at their entire careers, but at this moment, Floyd is the man. That's obviously no shot at Hopkins--the guy's 42 years old!
Re: Mayweather vs Hopkins : The Boss
i think hopkins would win by ud or late k.o, he has the smarts and ruthlessness to not chase mayweather around the ring he let mayweather come onto him

I don't think this thread is about who would win if they fought, it's about who is better p4p.
Hopkins is a light heavyweight, so I think that would give him a pretty good advantage over Floyd (who was two divisions too high when he fought Oscar)
Can you name any welterweight or jr. middleweight in history that could beat Hopkins at light heavyweight?

Hopkins: 2 and 2 in his last 4 fights. Beat Winky Wright similar to his victories over Trinidad and Delahoya, by fighting guys who are way outside their weight class. Don't forget that
Hopkins is now fighting at the weight class where he started his career. Jermain Taylor has a stronger claim to p4p status, imo.
1.) Floyd Mayweather Jr.
2.) Manny Pacquio
3.) Juan Manuel Marquez
4.) Jermain Taylor
5.) Bernard Hopkins
I'm with ya on this one...
How you all have Taylor ahead of Wright is a mystery..... When Wright in fact should have one his last fight against your number 5 p4p man.

It was ruled a draw (even though many had Taylor by a round or two) and Wright was p4p # 2 or 3 depending on who you ask AFTER that fight.
Wright went on to lose to Hopkins who wasn't even considered p4p top 5 by ANYBODY after Taylor beat him twice.
Because Hopkins beat Wright, he is now on the edge of the top 5 and Wright is not. Taylor beat Hopkins twice and had a draw with p4p #3 guy, then went on and beat Spinks (#1 jr. middleweight according to Ring Magazine) and Ouma (not a world beater, but a solid fighter)
Hope this helps...........

Okay. I didn't have Wright losing IMO to BHop or Taylor. So in my mind he has a very impressive resume with current or past p4p players.
Re: Mayweather vs Hopkins : The Boss
Also Hopkins def. didn't lose to Taylor twice. That was pathetic scoring. LIke the Quartey-Forrest fight.......(which doesn't seem so awful know that Forrest has looked awesome in his comeback.)

Well i wouldn't go that far but i had Hopkins losing the first fight 7 rounds to 5 i had him winning the rematch by a point but both men hardly done anything it was hard to tell who won anything.
