Racism ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Reading this thread made me think about something I'm going to share with everyone. I don't know anyone personally who uses this forum, I only know their forum names and sometimes get an idea where they are from. That being said, I'm willing to bet we have all races, religions and many countries represented on this forum. We all have something in common, an interest in boxing which we discuss and sometimes argue about. If we all came face to face at some time do any of you think things would change? Just food for thought. For the record, racism is shallow minded ignorance.

As long as everyone gets a round in and no-one is ducking spending a few quid on drinks (you know who you are....JT Rock and Boxing Gorrilla) then I'll be chatting with whoever else is there, no matter what race, nation or skin colour.

HahA CC BG, it is an intriguing thought ho, i only actually no 2 people on the forum to see, so its a real challenge trying to envision the person u are debating with :) The closeset i can imagine is thru the use of smileys and associating them with posters:

Me personal,I couldnt care about race,Ive known all types of people,from just about every race imaginable,and all over the country
People are just people,no matter where you go,and what the color of their skin
So rack em up barkeep,and lets put em down

This is a subject I have been thing about quite a bit recently.
I'm a white guy, and many of my friends that I grew up with are in prison and members of so-called "white supremist" gangs. In the neighborhood I grew up in, when I was about 13, there was a huge shift in the ethnicity of the area. It went from being predominantly white- "white trash" is the vernacular I believe- to being predominantly black in very little time. I came to hate black people, not because they were black but because it was 5 black guys that would jump me and beat hell out of me every time I went to play basketball, buy a candy bar or ride my bike to the gym. We, in turn, ganged up and fought back and there are a lot of people doing life in California prisons over the stupidity that ensued. If there is "racism" there, then it was on both sides.
Now, keep in mind that all this time I am going to any and every boxing gym that I can find. I have worked out with, trained with, sparred with and taught many many boxers in several different states and the majority of them are Latino (Mexican, in the Southwest) or black. Never once have I failed to find myself respecting the hell out of these individuals, or considering them friends and comrades-in-arms. To this day I have a great deal of distrust towards certain people within certain ethnic groups that portray themselves in certain ways. I have no problem with individuals within any group once I get to know them.
So you tell me. Is that racism or a product of my life experience? I think the latter and will continue to think that until you can show me actual footage of lambs and lions hanging out.

Grey for a start i'm not really familiar with you or ur posts, but to post that, with that honesty has shown me exactly why posters like Chris n, who i hold in high regard, hold You in such high regard. That took courage, even on a forum.

Yup, what donny said, and just to add grey, there is absolutely nothing wrong with hating the guys who jumped you. It isn't racism, it's just hating bad people.

You reduced you sense of awareness to that of a lamb? You're fleece is white as snow, correct? Or are you the lion?

I thought you werent allowed to talk about racist stuff here...this thread needs to be deleted!! Racism to me is just a lack of communication/information. People are afraid of the unknown usually.
