Manny is a few months away from his 29th birthday. When SRR turned 29, he had a record of 107-1.
Re: PACQUIAO CAN BE ANOTHER SUGAR RAY ROBINSON
Look all he has to do is fight 145 more times, probably win every belt in every division to welterweight. Have a trilogy with Mayweather and beat him twice, beat Hatton three times, beat jmm again, beat MAB, cotto, casamayor, diaz, williams, dela hoya, Margarito, cintron, malignaggi, katsidis, then he will be the new ray robinson. Its that easy.....

That was before when the promoters still don't care about the health of boxers. 107 -1 fights (are all these fights great?) The situation now will not provide Manny with that same number of fights. We can only compare the two fighters then on the quality of the fights.

SRR wouldn't have lost to Erik Morales.
SRR wouldn't have fought to a draw with Juan Manuel Marquez.
SRR wouldn't get KOd by Medgoen Singsurat.
Look, Manny Pacquiao is a great fighter, and a very exciting fighter. But he's not SRR, he's never been SRR, and he never will be SRR.

A fighter could still come along these days and have less fights yet still be as good as Robinson. Take Floyd mayweather for example. If he was to have another 20 fights and in those remain undefeated and beat all the big names of the era all the way to and including 160 (Mosely, Hatton, Cotto, Williams, Cintron, Margarito, Wright, Spinks, Taylor, Pavlik, etc) then i think many would rate him as good as Robinson. The argument that todays fighters will never be recognised as great becase of a lack of fights is wrong, they just have to make sure they pack more quality opponents into their shorter careers.

Okay, I respect your opinion. Only time will tell how great/weak manny will become. As of now, let's enjoy the moment when we have Manny beating all the superfeatherweights. At least we can tell to our grandchildren that we have seen how Manny fought and how great/bad he was.

I agree, I wasn't making that argument. SRR's record was better than Manny's in terms of both quality and quantity.

You were implying SweetPea that a boxer is considered great based on the number of fights. It can be clearly extracted from your comment.

This doesnt mean i think Manny will ever be as good as Robinson tho.

Re: PACQUIAO CAN BE ANOTHER SUGAR RAY ROBINSON
I think Manny should aspire to be the next Azumah Nelson, not SRR.
Re: PACQUIAO CAN BE ANOTHER SUGAR RAY ROBINSON
Laff at me 'til you drop if you wish or throw whatever you wish at me, or call me the nuttest of the nuts, but I think Pac would've beaten SRR if they fought today and had the same weight... Ok, let 'em out, folks... As a matter of fact, I think most top-class boxers of the last 30 or so years could have beaten any of the favorites of the old. It's just a common sense, all sports have progressed tremendously in the last 30 or so years, all the records of the old have been broken by leaps and bounds (I'm only talking here of the records of athletes whose perfomance can be objectively measured like those in most track-and-field events, all forms of racing, and many others) and I have absolutely no reason to believe boxing is the only exception. Even the records of Jesse Owens, who in his time left all his rivals gasping way far behind him, can be broken by high school athletes today. All right, have whatever laff you want, I don't give a shat (sorry I'm very bad at spelling them words), and how 'bout some soda cans and bottles? - I'll still be sitting here unperturbed underneath my nice pink umbrella. ;D
Geeze, it's me and Bruce against the world, naw against the idiots, I mean, very nice idiots. ;) :-* Stand your groud pal, I'm pretty sure we're on the 'right' side. :lickish:
