Re: Jones Jr says if he don't KO Tito in 4 than it does not mean anything.
As SLK123 pointed out above Roy has been quoted stating after fights that he does not like knockingout fighters when at all possible. I like Roy, but he's got a big mouth.
Re: Jones Jr says if he don't KO Tito in 4 than it does not mean anything.
I have a feeling this fight will be better than most people think it will.
Re: Jones Jr says if he don't KO Tito in 4 than it does not mean anything.
even if roy stops him in 1 it means nothing. Everyone knows roy is shot, and no matter what he does agasint tito proves nothing, he may be deluded to the fact it will mean his revival, but it wont.
Re: Jones Jr says if he don't KO Tito in 4 than it does not mean anything.
Roy is right: the fight is meaningless. With a victory, where does this leave him? Anybody who was interested in fighting him before will still be and anyone who wasn't still won't be. At this point, anyone who fights Roy will be doing so because of his name. Roy could just as easily sit back and wait for those fights to come to him without getting in the ring with Trinidad. Not because they want to break into the elites and not to get onto a p4p list. If Roy loses, then it means nothing for Tito. People will say he had already had two devastating KOs and a 3rd KO will do nothing to enhance Trinidad in anyone's eyes. It will only make people think 'maybe' when they see him.
Jones has put a weight on his shoulders that will be just as easy to shrug off as Tarver promising to KO Hopkins and subsequently looking like a death row inmate looking for an emergency exit. If he does KO Trinidad, great, if he doesn't and gets a decision, fine. But KOing someone who was pretty much humiliated in his last fight, then retired, then was lured out of retirement to fight at a weight higher than he's ever been is indicative of nothing.
To prematurely prognosticate: Jones-Trinidad will be THE most meaningless fight of the year. If Roy wins, it's a tune-up before going down to 168 to posture for Calzaghe. If Tito wins, he'll either make the bum circuit or get his clock cleaned by the first top ten light heavy who comes along.
Re: Jones Jr says if he don't KO Tito in 4 than it does not mean anything.
I am a big fan of Trinidad but I really don't know why he took this fight. He should of had a warm up fight or something.
Re: Jones Jr says if he don't KO Tito in 4 than it does not mean anything.
Look...I love Roy. I think that he's great & I honestly believe that there hasn't been a fighter on the planet like Jones in his prime (NO ONE!) but this match up right here is RE-GOT-DAM-DICULOUS!
There is no point in this fight even happening. Honestly I think that all Trinidad fans should revolt!!!
I see no way that Tito can win this bout nor do I see Jones making any new fans or headway here.
Jones should be climbing the ranks of 168lbs to 175lbs with ease but he takes on Tito Trinidad? The same Tito that Wright battered around the ring & retired... ???
Come on now.
Re: Jones Jr says if he don't KO Tito in 4 than it does not mean anything.
It sad to see any great boxer becoming a sideshow...but that's exactly what Roy is becoming. And to think only a few years ago he was the best and most popular fighter on the planet.

:coolclick: Totally agree 100%. I almost puked when I heard that he was going to be on "Average Joes" a while ago.
Sad. >:mad
Re: Jones Jr says if he don't KO Tito in 4 than it does not mean anything.
Jones is trying real hard to hype the fight.

It pains me a lot to see Roy like this. He was my greatest fighter of all time.
Re: Jones Jr says if he don't KO Tito in 4 than it does not mean anything.
LOL,I think everyone has cursed this fight, neither Showtime nor HBO have signed it as far as I've heard and neither fighter has been exactly vocal about it after the initial announcement.
Re: Jones Jr says if he don't KO Tito in 4 than it does not mean anything.
If Roy could tag this bout to a more significant bout (hey Showtime, broadcast this and I'll give you Jones-Tarver 4) I could see this getting on tv. But unfortunately he doesn't have that kind of cache right now and this fight certainly doesn't move him in the right direction. Perhaps if Trinidad is better than we expect and Jones rises to the occasion he'll get a bump.
Re: Jones Jr says if he don't KO Tito in 4 than it does not mean anything.
This fight is akin to Don King announcing a Foreman/Holmes matchup.
Whover wins, they will have a hard time convincing me they were doing anything more than burgling an empty house.

Best quote of the week. That gets a cool click.
