Re: Mosley Should Beat Cotto
I think it will be a tough fight, but I see Mosley winning. He is too fast IMO and Cotto isn't a big enough hitter to really slow Mosley down. When I look at Mosley against Oscar at 147 Oscar hit harder than Cotto and was a lot faster, and a better boxer, but Mosley still beat him in their first fight. Now I think Mosley isn't as fast as he once was, and he doesn't hit as hard as he did at lightweight, but I think he has become a smarter fighter. He is boxed more against Collazo then he ever used to I think he still counters effectively, and he is the hardest hitter Cotto has ever faced, and his biggest flaw up until now has been his jaw. I think that if Mosley can catch Cotto with the right count he will be counted out. On the other side I can't see Cotto stopping Mosley at all. Mosley takes a great body shot, and he has an even better chin. I see a UD for Mosley. Cotto is a good boxer-puncher, but he has more flaws than Mosley.

I personally don't think SSM falls under the 'should beat' category....
When I read SSM should beat Cotto IMO your selling Cotto short here. It's like your not taking into consideration how much he has grown as a boxer. I remember when ROCKYMARSHMELLOW and I got into a debate here cause he was saying that Cotto didn't have room to grow that Cotto would loose soon and that he had no future... I forget who was it that backed Rockys theory and said that he also agreed that Cotto had no future.... Well I disagreed with them and told him Cotto was gonna grow and was gonna improve cause he had time and room to improve as he went thru the ranks. Here we are about 2 yrs. later and Cottos still going strong.
I have almost all of Cottos career except for a fight or two but let me tell you man this kids really improved massively. I mean look at the way he finished Quintana off with body shots. Look at the way he finished off Zab with straight right hands and a uppercut.
I think the Cotto vs. SSM fight will start off a little like the Zab fight where SSMs hand speed and skill will cause him problems... Cotto being in the mind set he normally is he'll adjust to it as the fight moves forward and begin to take SSM apart.
Sorry you dont like my wording Mick, but believe me I appreciate Cotto as a boxer and I think he is great for the sport and a class act. I also think he is a hell of a fighter. I just feel that Mosley has the tools to beat him and nothing in Mosley has shown me otherwise. Cotto can beat Mosley sure.I just think that unless Mosley has got old I think he has more advantages. But, like I said dont get me wrong Cotto has done more than anyone can expect of him and even if he doesnt win this one he will lose nothing but his 0.
No need to apologise BoomBoom it's your opinion....
You bring up a very good point when you said "Unless Mosley has got old"
Well BoomBoom I'll tell you what I've seen fighters grow old over night literally. From 1 fight to another, within months....
I would also like to mention that whoever lists Cotto anything higher then #10 better have a gotdamn! GREAT explanation as to why he is there.
I'm a fan and a realist, top 9 he ain't top 10 with a strong arguement I can see it happen.
Another thing is the double standards here. His opponents are shit! cause he beat them... Would he have lost to them then he would have been shit!!
::**
I mean he beat a legit Welter in Quintana who at least was good enought to derail Julio but Quintana ain't shit! right people??? :beat:
Also (and SweetPea will vouche here) wasn't almost everyone here saying if Cotto beat Zab then Cotto would show if he was the real thing or not? And people were saying that Zab was Cottos toughest challenge and blah blah blah.....
Well he beat him and he still get's no credit or respect he deserves.
But I guess, once he beats SSM then people will write off SSM also as just another aging fighter.
Re: Mosley Should Beat Cotto
I think this would be a much bigger win than Judah cause even an old Mosley has accomplished more than the younger Judah in recent years. Any boxer with over 40 pro fights at 36 years old is never a sure bet reguardless of how good he has been. JCC was younger than Mosley when he fought ODLH and was still performing well up till that point just like Mosley. The question is whether Mosleys age will show against Cotto.

If cotto beats Mosley,He is P4P top ten .Cotto is a soldier Ala Edwin rosario. If any fighter,ANY fighter Let alone Mosley, "gets old" In a fight Its because They were shown the door!Great fight But I think mosley has big edge.
Re: Mosley Should Beat Cotto
I see Mosley stopping Cotto late. Around 10th or 11th round

I don't think its that his opponents are shit. Quintana and Zab are quality opposition for sure, but Cotto has yet to prove himself against top tier opposition. Now he has his chance and if he beats SSM he deserves a ton of credit for it.
Re: Mosley Should Beat Cotto
I say he should beat Cotto too but will he?
Cotto says this is my time.
I hope so.
I will have to stand by Miguel and stand by my prediction.
I said that Cotto would unify by end of 2008. I can not go back on what I have said and I will have to stick to it.
WAR COTTO!
Make my prediction come true.

When you say top tier you mean over all, not just the actual Welter div. cause in that case Zab and Quintana up to this date are far more qualified as Welteres then SSM. Would you agree?
I mean SSM has moved thru divisions and has been unsteady so far he wins in 1 division then looses in another...
Re: Mosley Should Beat Cotto
There's no doubt that Judah and Quintana are quality opposition. No doubt Mosley is a better fighter then both though and a true complete package. This is definitely the best guy Cotto has ever been in the ring with.
For what it's worth, I thought Carlos Quintana would beat Miguel Cotto but Cotto came polished and really upped his game to beat Quintana. I still think that is the best win of Cotto's career as far as the fight in the ring goes, the Judah fight showed he could handle speed and a big stage but he didn't prove anymore then he did that night.
I really think this is a pick-em fight and is going to swing back and forth all night.

CC,I agree. Even though they don't admit to it now, many have said that Paulie and Carlos would outslick Cotto and quite a few chose Zab to beat Cotto. Heck I even remember websites whos names we are not supposed to mention choosing Paulie to win. He pretty much annihilated them. It's not that he has 1 outstanding but rather he has beaten a number of solid B level fighters. And they are beginning to stack up.
It is a pick em fight but I think as long as Cotto weathers the early storm,he will win. I think this will be FOTY contender.

Quintana may be the only natural welterweight amonst them, but that doesn't mean he's a better fighter than SSM or that he was a bigger threat to Cotto than Mosley is. I would also say that SSM seems pretty comfortable at the higher weight classes at this point - according to boxrec he hasn't fought below 147 since 1999, and his opposition has been more than decent.
Re: Mosley Should Beat Cotto
Mosley wins by stoppage inside 9
Re: Mosley Should Beat Cotto
I Admire both guys, I feel the winner of this fight may be heir apparent to the Welter division, thats why i slightly favour Cotto as he will have more longevity and will be better for boxing as i expect shane to retire soon-ish.

I have to agree with Dark Lord Al, Shane will KO Cotto inside 9 rounds. I actually really like Cotto as a fighter even more so after the Judah fight but I think Mosley has too much hand & footspeed. Mosley is a great body puncher as well as Cotto and I think this fight will be so exciting to watch more so than Hatton/Mayweather from a spectators point of view. Either way I think it will be an all out war!!

I agree with you. I'm going over to watch this, and I'm going because I honestly believe Cotto has the ability to beat most of the guys out there. I even think he can beat Floyd. Even in trouble, Cotto is dangerous and I think he'll wear Mosley down. It'll be a superb fight though, and the undercard looks pretty fucking sweet. I'm just glad I managed to get a ticket ;D
