Like Morales fighting hard is not always fighting smart. Some folks here could learn from that.

True, but who has earned more respect,MAB or EM from their fighting Manny? I think it's safe to say Erik.

Each to their own. I think Morales has the better legacy. He lost 2 of 3 to MAB that could have just as easily gone the other,36 of the most evenly contested rounds in boxing. And Morales beat better fighters overall imo. MAB has the edge in longeviety,I prefer Erik's superior resume.
Re: MAB vs Morales: who deserves more praise?
earned more respect? From who exactly? Fans who like to see boxers get smashed up and fight past their best? Don't get me wrong I like to see a good scrap but I also admire skill, you know the skill of hit and not be hit. I've seen Barrera as a boxer and brawler and Morales as less flexible.
& he did not just go in there to survive, I find that insulting.

Well considering most knowledgeable fans consider thier legacies close,I'd say alot of true boxing fans appreciate both aspects.Morales earned more respect for trying to win the fight.
And you find the notion of MAB surviving insulting but it could be considered true, based on his comments after the fight, the fact that his corner told him he needed to fight more etc. And correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't MAB past his best? I know the skill of hit and not get hit. It wasn't what MAB was doing v Pac.
I also admire skill greatly, the skill Morales has displayed all throughtout his career up until fairly late where he fell in love with brawling. The skill he displayed beating Manny the first time, which MAB could not achieve using his felxibility.
I'm also one of the first to admonish Morales for his decision to carry on fighting. Whats your point?

Longevity is important in my book, i guess thats why i rate Barrera so highly. It must also be taken into account that Barrera rebounded from his losses seemingly more profoundly than Erik did. i.e He lost to Morales, came back and beat him trwice, he lost to Junior Jones twice was exposed as a crude slugger and came back with a new repotoire of skills and defense (which allowed him to defeat Naseem Hamed.)
Additionally i personally favour Barrera as his losses (apart from the Jones drubbings) seemed to be far less severe in comparisonm to some of the painful sagas Morales endured.
Re: MAB vs Morales: who deserves more praise?
Obviously Morales cos he beat Pac
But
I think a clearly passed his best Barrera showed enough in the rematch to suggest without the training complications, and more importantly, Pac bringing a huge surprise element to the first fight, it would/could have been a whole lot different.

You really think so bro>? Well Morales came back from the loss to MAB to beat Manny. That's just as good a rebound.
And I totally disagree with the losses. Morales took 2 beatings from Manny. He didn't get beaten up by Raheem,Diaz. MAB took beatings from JJ,Manny, both guys he didn't beat. That counts in my book. And like I said, overall,Morales beat the better fighters.
I can totally see why you prfer MAB's legacy though. We are putting emphasis on different things I guess, both are valid.

come on now Morales couldn't resist getting involved in a brawl it was his thing and it's what people liked about his style and my overall point is if you failed to figure it out can clearly be spelt out by hitmandonny. I like thinking fighters.
EM outbrawled manny and later suffered for it.
Why rate Manny so highly when he couldn't finish off someone past their best. I think the statement mostly refers to the know nothings who said Barrera would get knocked out in 3 rounds. An improved Manny couldn't do it 4 years later?
All I know and I do know this is, the two stoppages he has on his record shouldn't be there but because of circumstance they are. All history books and regular fans see is the W L D. It isn't sour grapes, it depends on what you know.
furthermore I don't think Barrera/Morales should be judged solely based on their performances with Paquiao. That's like condensing Tyson to his Buster Douglas moment.
if you're bringing that up Morales lost to Raheem......say no more
Bored with this.

You like thinking fighters? Great, you were probably weren't a MAB fan earlier on then. ::**
And what do you mean the 2 stoppages shouldnt be there but are for circumstances? Everyone could say that about their favourite favourite. Morales 2 stoppages shouldn't be there,he was shot,he didn't prepare,he had to lose 30 pounds etc etc
You're right, they should not be judged off their performance against 1 fighter but that is essentially what the thread is asking. I responded.
And you're bored with this. Great, very constructive. Good for you.. ::** ::**
Re: MAB vs Morales: who deserves more praise?
Good Points Gamo, nuther CC for ya.
Re: MAB vs Morales: who deserves more praise?
Morales may have done better than Barrera in getting a win against Pac. But it must be remembered that Barrera has just taken the so called "improved Pac" to the distance in a pretty close fight and at the ripe old age of 33. He did okay, but I feel if he had pushed the boat a little more that he could have beaten the Pac of this weekend.
In terms of career wins and longevity Barrera will go down as the greater fighter.
Re: MAB vs Morales: who deserves more praise?
Eriks overeating is his problem. If you don't know the circumstance then you can't comment, I do know so I can 8) and it has nothing to do with being shot & I'm not being drawn on it.
As for Barreras earlier career, go watch them plenty of smarts going on.
If we both agree neither should be judged based on 1 fighter what the hell are you arguing with me for? My criticism was based on Morales' face first attack and defence style which is based on his own preference and wanting to please those particular fans who bay for fighters blood and if they don't get it call fighters pussies. I don't consider it smart.

:sadclick: it case you wonder who gave you one it was me cause honestly this post here is rediculous
Re: MAB vs Morales: who deserves more praise?
I'm really sorry for Barrera as i feel his age of 33 has been made much greater by the wars he's been in. Honestly pictures before the fight made him look 50. A great fighter and a guy il always remember alongside all the other Mexican Warriors (which include Morales.)
