Re: Roy Jones Jr Had Alot On His Mind In The Glen Johnson Fight ??
I'm with you guys,it was the weight. That's not an excuse, look what RJJ did to fighters who were on par/better than Glen. Look at his performance. I think the move to HW was the worst thing RJJ has done and he does not even get that much credit for the Ruiz win. Weight jumping is bad and will catch up to any fighter.

RJJ went from 175 to 200+ and then back down to 175....that's a TON of weight when you factor in body fat percentage
considering his age as well....asking for trouble.
should have bowed out after the ruiz fight....nothin more to prove.

Actually it was exactly 193...not that it matters much(maybe a little bit)...

Actually Tarver knocked Jones out before Johnson did. ;)
@Wacko, I don't think weight is going to be a factor in Floyd's career. I don't think he plans to move up again and he's never moved back down a weight class before.
When he fought Oscar he basically weighed the same as he did for his welterweight fights, proudly boasting how he entered the ring at 148 lbs on fight night, lighter than in some previous welterweight fights.
I think Floyd is a perfectionist, he doesn't make mistakes like that, everything he does is planned to precision imo.
Re: Roy Jones Jr Had Alot On His Mind In The Glen Johnson Fight ??
I think the weight was a defining factor as well as the psychological effect of the KO from Tarver. We also have to give credit to Johnson who started aggressive and did not allow Jones to establish his game plan. I think these were some of the factors on this fight.

did you watch the fight on youtube ?

Yeah they shaved off 10 pounds of Roy's weight which he was upset about :)
There was a documentary on the Ruiz fight where Roy stepped on a scale after the weigh in and it being 200 pounds :)
Re: Roy Jones Jr Had Alot On His Mind In The Glen Johnson Fight ??
I think Glen would have given him trouble at any point in his career, but he did look drained though and old. It could be an issue in his next fight were he is fighting at a lower weight. Titos ONLY chance of winning is if Jones is weight drained and shows his age.

I don't believe in all that juggling. Your body just can't take it...not in that short of a time span.
Floyd needs to be careful of this also. It's a proven fact that jumping up & down ruins careers.
I want Mayweather to stay at Welterweight and never move up or down again theres plenty of big fights for Mayweather at Welterweight and funny you should mention that Wacko because i was thinking the samething and was just about to reply with the comment about Mayweather.
Yeah...it's gonna be Floyd's downfall...wait & see.
You can't keep jumping up & down. Pick a weight & stay where your body is comfy & you get the best performance.
147 seems right for Floyd & there's plenty of money there.
I totally agree with this point about Floyd but when he moved upto light middle to face De La Hoya he didnt even come in at the 154 mark in fact if I remember right i think he was only 150 which is only 3 above the welter limit so I can't see it having too much effect on him certainly not like when Jones moved upto heavy and then all the way back down to light heavy.
Another thing about Jones is that when he was at his absolute best he wouldn't have just schooled Tarver and Johnson he'd have been able to whip one of them then get back into the ring and whip the other straight after in the same night! Lol
Re: Roy Jones Jr Had Alot On His Mind In The Glen Johnson Fight ??
I agree but at the same time, a fight is a fight and if you not gon show up focused and ready then don't get your ass in that ring or suffer the consequences and he suffered them in the worst possible way.

As professionals of any sport and or other jobs you must always be prepared despite of anything that just occured in your personal life.
A death, family problems, personal problems that's why it's always said 'The Show Must Go On'......
Lot's of fighters have fought thru adversity in and out of the ring simotaneously. Some achive other don't.
I personally think that with or without those things on his mind the end result would have been the same 10 out of 10 times.
