How far can Amir Khan go as a pro???

It's an open secret that Fwank like's his fighters to fight nobodies, thus making his fighters appear far more gifted and special than they really are.

Eventually when the public or the fighter themselves can no longer stand the charade he'll pick the weakest belt holder to go for, to satisfy the demand.

Amir Khan is one of the fundamental reasons why Ricky Hatton left Frank Warren - Hatton fought long and hard for far less than Amir is picking up from poxy 4 rounders.

Fwank gave Amir a golden hello and is paying him far handsomely than he ever paid Hatton.

He had Amir installed as his latest cash-cow for when Hatton fought Tszyu - insiders point out that Fwank largely believed Ricky would give a good account of himself but may possibly lose against the then P4P #2 Aussie/Russian.

Once Hatton got the victory and suddenly held all the cards, Fwank didn't budge on his pay structure and was then out of the Hatton team.

I know in my opinion, that if some kid was given £100,000.00 then £50-100K a fight after i had fought long, hard and loyally for less than that and was already a belt holder that i would be p*ssed off too.

But what you didn't mention was the fact Khan was bigger in the UK on his first fight than hatton was when he went for his first championship fight...

At the end of the day the fans pay the boxers, the promoter is just there to take a slice of the money as it passes hands.

This guy has a shitload of star power and it will only grow in the future (Nas), he has alot of talent and has plenty of time to develope, no doubt about it he will be a champion.

Very well put bud, maybe only two years and he could be ready...deffo not sooner though..

I think he is ready for anyone in the lightweight division, after wathcing how well Katsidis did against Casamayor, and compare their fights with Graham, I think that Amir Khan is going could be a top 5 p4p fighter for a long time. He is really great fighter, I will love to watch him progress.

Will he take the Katsidis path and fight a true champion sooner rather than later? I doubt it! Now here's a thought, why not fight Katsidis?

Comparing katsidis' fight and khan's fight with earl and then comparing katsidis's fight with casamayor to get a feel of how khan would do on the world stage really doesn't have much revelance I think. Who knows maybe kats softened earl up for amir, maybe amir wouldn't have the will to get up 2 times in the first round, maybe he would get completely discouraged after he knocked a fighter out of the ring only to see them walk back into it in time to continue... amir and kats are 2 very different kind of fighters so there is nothing much to compare, I've not seen to much of amir but from what I've seen he does seem like he could be the goods but don't just yet put him in with the wolves give him 2 more fights or so

For Kahn to ever win a world title they would have to cottle him for a long time and wait the top tier out...In hopes they retire or move out of a division...When I say top tier I include the 140lb and SFW divisions in case he should move up or for some crazy reason down....

In the LW division we have Casamayor...Looking shot now a days but still enough to beat Kahn...Juan Diaz...To strong for Kahn, Nate Campbell beats him handily, In another five or so fights it would be a good fight for him to have with maybe a somewhat shot Freita...I do pick him over Zahir Raheem Zahir Raheem....

At 140 he is eaten alive by Hatton, Witter, Malignaggi, Hopkins, Torres or Kotelnik beats him easily as well...So does Urango, Holt, Harris.

In the SFW division he beatsd no one in the top ten even within 3 years time....also some of those guys will be at 135 by then so that puts a dmper on those wishes of taking over the LW division as the top dogs fade off.....

I may be a bit over critical but I just don't see him beating any of the top tier in those 3 divisions...Unless he suddenly improves 100% and continues to do so in each bout....

With that being said he can always snag a title if he should happen to get the right champion on the right night ALA Carlos Baldomir...Other then that I see him as a Zahir Raheem type...he will spoil one or two fights for someone but the momentum will not carry through

With Casamayor & Nate not getting any younger I think even if he looses now he's got a shit load of room to comeback from it.

Theres new breed of Lightweights and they are all young and up coming.

Nowadays too much is put in a loss. A loss is a loss you learn from it and you move on.

I think you are being a bit harsh Dax. I'd fancy Khan's chances against ANYONE at lightweight right now.

His chin is still the big question mark but apart from that he has everything.

He'd have a great chance against any of those fighters. What makes you think he wouldnt?

Apart from being floored by Willie Limond, in a fight which we should not forget that he got up to annihilate Limond what other weaknesses do you think he has?

Im sure its been noted already, probably by me but I hate the way Amir falls across the ring throwing 3 or 4 straight punches. Its so untidy and I see someone with a bit more class just sitting and waiting for him to do it and cleaning his clock in the process.

Thing that worries me is that he does it after EVERY knockdown..he's going to do it one day after he scores a flash knockdown and his opponent is just gonna get up and take advantage of him rushing in with his chin out.

He has a lot of talent, and some very good attributes, but just hasn't fought often enough and been taken into deep waters to iron out the mistakes. Against the likes of Campbell and Casa I'd pick him to win a few early rounds, but they will eventually catch up to him and KHO. But as Mick said, a loss shouldn't be the end of the world and would probably be a good reality check for him.
i get the impression he thinks the fight game is easy from his experiences so far, and am not convinced he'll be able to swim in deep waters. A fight with Romanov would be good for the summer, and bridge the gap between what he's been fighting to date with the top guys in the division. Rees would be good for him as well, he'll be a tough nut to crack at the weight, and though limited he's relentless enough to be a pain in the arse for Khan.
Even if he gets these fights, I feel it'll be too little to late fro him to genuinely have a chance to beat on of the top guys in the autumn.

I get the impression that he might struggle if he comes up against a natural 135lber who is still firing back after about 8 rounds.

I'm not sure how he would mentally deal with it.

Like when he fought St Clair i got the impression that if he was fighting a natural 135lber who could hit, he might have been up shit's creek.

Same as when he fought that Drizlane or whatever he was called....that big french guy.

Having said that.....when he really needed it, he pulled some shots out of his arse when Limond had him hurt. Same as Saturday night, he pulled it out the bag when he needed to.

He has tremendous finishing ability. Offensively he is breathtaking at times. He needs work on his defence and the public also need to accept that it's ok for him to go 12 rounds. He can't blow everyone out early.

His chin seems ok to me. The Limond shot was a temple shot, so that has no bearing on his chin in actual fact. His power seems good, his speed is unreal. His defence needs work.

I think in about 3 or 4 fights he is ready for a world title. There's nobody at 135 who i'd be worried about, but there's no need to rush imo.
