Re: Jose Sulaiman: JMM's next fight MUST be v Pacman in1st quarter of 08
The WBC simply want their slice of the purse.
No other reason at all.
The crooks tried to shaft Kelly Pavlik of his title winning shorts didnt they.
Marco Sulaiman came into the dressing room after the fight and declared that Pavlik 'Give the shorts to his father as a gift to him and the WBC'
Kelly said no way 'My blood is on these shorts, there mine'
After being informed that he should give up the shorts or his reign may be difficult, Marco Suliaman left with them in a bag.
24 hours later he was forced to return them after an intervention by the local boxing authority got wind of it.
They reminded him that, Kelly didnt want to give away the shorts at all - and that they could be viewed as a 'gift' and therefore he could go to jail for 6 months for taking them, as their are strict laws with regards this type of thing.
Re: Jose Sulaiman: JMM's next fight MUST be v Pacman in1st quarter of 08
A NOTE ON A RELATED MATTER: After referee Steve Smoger gave Kelly Pavlik his instructions in the dressing room prior to Taylor-Pavlik, Mauricio Sulaiman came into the room. Mauricio is the son of WBC president Jose Sulaiman. In recent years, he has assumed an increasingly active role within the sanctioning body. He is now the WBC’s executive secretary and is in charge of the organization’s executive office in Mexico City.
In the dressing room, Mauricio approached veteran cornerman Miguel Diaz and told him, “If Kelly wins, I would like his trunks to present as a gift to my father.” Diaz relayed the request to Mike Pavlik, who responded, “No way.”
After the fight, Mauricio returned to the dressing room and renewed his request.
“Oh, man,” Kelly said. “These are my trunks. Next fight, maybe; but not this one. I just won the championship in these trunks. My blood is on them.”
More people were drawn into the conversation. One-on-ones followed. Some words were exchanged regarding the discretionary powers of WBC officials and their ability to make things easy or hard on WBC champions. Mauricio Sulaiman left Boardwalk Hall with Kelly Pavlik’s bloodstained trunks. In the wee small hours of Sunday morning, he was confronted regarding the matter and the trunks were returned.
“It was a misunderstanding,” Mauricio told this writer. “I was led to believe that Kelly wanted the trunks to be presented as a gift to my father because of his respect for my father and the WBC. When it was brought to my attention that Kelly wished to have the trunks back, I arranged quickly to return them.”
Federal law states, “No officer or employee of a sanctioning organization may receive any compensation, gift, or benefit, directly or indirectly, from a boxer [other than a sanctioning fee].” Violation of this law is a crime punishable by up to one year in prison and a fine of $20,000.
When a powerful WBC official makes a request such as the one Sulaiman made of Pavlik, there’s an inherent coercive factor at work. That’s why there’s a law against it.
Craig Hamilton (the foremost boxing memorabilia dealer in the United States) estimates that Pavlik’s trunks from his championship-winning fight could be worth as much as $25,000. The WBC received a substantial sanctioning fee for Taylor-Pavlik. That should suffice for everyone’s purposes.
This isn’t the first time that Mauricio Sulaiman has made a request of this nature. One hopes it’s the last.

Don Jose said: "If he (Manny) declines for a third time, then I think he doesn't want to fight Marquez, and we have to go our way. But I believe that Marquez and Pacquiao are willing to fight each other. And it's got to be in the first quarter of 2008, because there are no other television dates for the rest of the year, and they cannot do without the television, because it's a big money fight. So I believe that's going to be a great opportunity at the beginning of the year."
Bro, a little correction/clarification on why Manny's camp declined on fighting with JMM.
JMM was asking too much according to Pacquaio's camp. Was it 60-40 sharing in favor of JMM?
That's why they are contemplating on Valero and David Diaz as the most feasible opponents.
A decline is a decline regardless ;)
After all we discussed on the other thread regarding the JMM-Pac prize purse and that PAC deserves the bigger prize purse, here we go again, ... same issues. And Pac is the one being blamed for not taking the fight.
You could make a case that it is JMM who is in the habit of declining, not PAC. He declined the first rematch with Pac. He declined the challenge of Joan Guzman. Now he is in effect, declining fighting Pac again, by insisting on a high prize purse.
Let JMM take a 30/70 prize split, and fight will push through. As I have said in the previous thread, Pac simply has to insist on his prize purse, and JMM will still take it after making a lot of noise and protests. Because JMM has no other big-money fight unlike Pacquiao. If it takes JMM or Nacho some time to realize this, it might happen a little later after Pac fights someone else, but the fight will still push through.
Re: Jose Sulaiman: JMM's next fight MUST be v Pacman in1st quarter of 08
Another angle:
Marquez says he wants to fight Pac, IF THE PRICE IS RIGHT, by demanding a big share of the prize.
Pacquiao says he wants to fight Marquez, IF THE PRICE IS RIGHT, also by demanding a big share of the prize.
If the fight does not happen, it is Pac's fault???? What the #(*& ?
If anything, Pac has the right to demand a bigger prize being the bigger draw. That has and always is the case in the business of boxing. That is why Morales had a bigger prize purse of when he fought lightweightchamp David Diaz recently although Morales was just the challenger. That is why ODLH has a bigger prize than Mayweather. Can't you guys understand how boxing works? and I thought you were longtime boxing fans.
Re: Jose Sulaiman: JMM's next fight MUST be v Pacman in1st quarter of 08

Do you ever post on anything other than the issue of JMM and Pac's pay? If not, then I think you should consider your own status as a boxing fan as opposed to other posters
Re: Jose Sulaiman: JMM's next fight MUST be v Pacman in1st quarter of 08
El Gamo,
I will not contest that you are more of a boxing fan than me. Actually, I consider myself a boxing fan newbie. That was why I was expecting more from you.
My argument was just based on simple logic really. Now, if you can disprove what I said, then I would welcome that. But I keep repeating myself because you keep repeating the same flawed arguments i.e. that it is Pac who must accept JMM's fight purse demands instead of JMM accepting Pac's fight purse demands in order for the fight to happen.
See this recent news item which quotes Bob Arum:
Unless he agrees to a more reasonable paycheck, Juan Manuel Marquez might as well kiss his hopes of facing Manny Pacquiao in a rematch goodbye. “He wants a big percentage of the money and that would be a huge sacrifice on Manny’s part,” said Top Rank president and Pacquiao promoter Bob Arum. “

Dont even try keypool, theres an inner cirlce here in saddo. Pac fans are always wrong, and what ever the members of that circle in saddo say is whats right. Thats a little tip for you if you decide to stay long, I'd second think it. Don't worry though pac kicks ass inside the ring and thats what matters. Jmm nor anybody in the division can do anything about it ;D

Actually...people like keypool are welcome here because they debate & don't act ridiculous...it has nothing to do with an inner circle nor does it have anything to do with Pacquiao...it's all in how you discuss & what you know.
If you think there's an inner circle here that is all conspiring against Pacquiao...I am sure that there are other websites that you can focus your ill intent on.
By all means...they are only a few clicks away...just type & press enter...there are many search engines that can take you there.

Keypool,my friend, you are more than welcome here. As long as you aren't going to be an idiotic nuthugger like some,it's fine. We have some awesome pacfans here like BruceLee,KKisser,Pacfan(where the hell have you gone?!),Pavlik, some of the best posters here. Unfortunately, there are the couple here and there that are blind nut huggers, that don't listen to voice of reason and one can barely discuss points with them about Manny without being labelled hater etc.
