Re: If you could change anything about boxing, what would it be?
1 - Absolutely no love making in the ring - I mean no holding, fools. So no more Akiwandes making love in the ring all night and taking millions of dollars home afterwards. ;D
2 - Higher pay for the winner - that should motivate some fighters.
3 - Judges and referees should also be judged - suspend or ban those guys who consistently make bum calls or scorings. Judges can be judged based on punch-stat results, the scorings of fellow judges, and the opinions of some respected experts, or on any other reasonable criteria.

the bell saves a knocked down boxer. once the bell goes the count stops.
15 round title fights.
boxers who throw less than 50 punches a round getting disqualified.
So if a fighter is standing at the count of 9 but wobbling all over and looks like he got hit with a cattle prod, you still think the fight should go on? That could cause' alot of permanent damage to fighters.
And I personally don't want the bell to save a fighter, if he can't make the count, bell or not, he loses.
I wouldn't mind seeing 15 round title fights, or 15 rounders period.
yeah absolutely, boxings a violent sport and the aim is to injure your opponent. if someone beats the count of 10 then they have proved they can continue and i would like to see the bell go and a unconscious boxer who was knocked down before the bell dragged back to his corner and able to continue at the start of the next round.
Fucking idiot..
The aim of boxing is not to injure your opponent and youve blatently never boxed a lick in your life
It's obvious he's never boxed before. But I bet you he's gotten his ass kicked plenty of times
Re: If you could change anything about boxing, what would it be?
Just one governing body at each weight and only TEN weight divisions. There was NEVER just eight traditional divisions. It started with TWO and grew from there. Now we have bigger guys in some countries and much smaller from others. Start completely afresh with something like the following weights (I'm sure there could be much improvement to those listed below).
Heavyweight - 100+kgs (220lbs+)
Cruiserweight - 100kgs (220lbs)
Lightheavy - 90kgs (198lbs)
Middleweight - 83kgs (182.6lbs)
Welterweight - 75kgs (158.4lbs)
Lightweight - 68kgs (149.6lbs)
Featherweight - 62kgs (136.4lbs)
Bantamweight - 57kgs (127.6lbs)
Flyweight - 53 kgs (116.6lbs)
Strawweight - 50kgs- (110lbs-)
Ten champs is easier for Joe Public to grasp.
Also promote more regional/world cup of boxing. Have the following Championships.
A - North American (USA, Canada, Caribbean)
B - Central American (Mexico to Panama)
C - South America
D - Asia & Oceania
E - Europe
Then have the Champions of each weights fight each other in a continual round robin. Within these groups have more sub categories so there is more talent constantly pushing forward.
Re: If you could change anything about boxing, what would it be?
It's been said already, but what boxing needs is a national commision to oversee and regulate all contests with the same standards applied to all fights. One thing I HATE to see is a fight who's like 4 - 15 who's been KO'd 13 times fighting an undefeated prospect... that bullshit really gets to me. Once you've had a certain number of KO losses, you shouldn't be allowed to fight anymore.
With a national commision you might also see the rise of a boxers association/union like you see in all other major professional sports (even the National Lacrosse League has a players union).

I agree with less weight division but a 24 pound difference between middle and welter? Heavyweight should stay a 200+ division.
Re: If you could change anything about boxing, what would it be?
no promotors like don king
Re: If you could change anything about boxing, what would it be?
A lot of the judges need to go. And better retirement plans for boxers. Too many guys who were once top contenders and champions arent taken care off enough and many end up broke. That problem is being worked on though.
Re: If you could change anything about boxing, what would it be?
15 rounds and also more outside say on decisions cause there is too many controversial decisions by judges that can make or break a boxers career.
Re: If you could change anything about boxing, what would it be?
I'm surprised that the majority of the responses here involve things that take place INSIDE the ring... do you guys really feel there's a big problem with the quality of action that takes place inside the ropes? I sure don't.
Boxing's problems are located outside the ring. If I had one wish, I would remove the multiple commissions that have belts in each weight division.
Each weight class has three or 4 "champions", and each of those champs has a different "mandatory contender," and that creates a system that makes it tough for beltholders to face each other and unify. There should be one belt per weight class.

I disagree about heavyweight. Most top heavies are 220+ nowadays - and even 250+ - so a decent fighter of 210 is at a big disadvantage.
As for you other comment. Try reading my whole post. It helps before you reply. ;) I've underlined things to make them easier for you to understand.
Re: If you could change anything about boxing, what would it be?
get tossed off while watching it :) sorry that werent me my mate >:mad
Re: If you could change anything about boxing, what would it be?
Accountability for judges. Judges who make bad decisions should be banned for life. Bad decisions more than anything else are ruining the sport.
Do away with all sanctioning bodies and make the ring magazine belt the only one.
Enforce penalties for excessive holding.
More security for fights held in the Chicago area. :P
Re: If you could change anything about boxing, what would it be?
All of the painting and ads Off canvas's.Maybe they could use the NFL imagery system (?).Between rounds run it over the canvas for the In house fans and cameras.Just tired of seeing guys on rollerskates with slips.
If you loss a mouthpiece you go without it be it a punch or spit etc.
All Refs. wear mike for everyone to hear...(accountability)
All Judges Introduced on camera every fight,Put a face on them.
Less Intrusive Ref's,I might be in the minority hear but if theres a clinch or 1 fighter is holding and other punching or trying to punch out let the busy fighter deliever his shots If its excessive holding Deduct Points.
Limit the # of hangers on and entourage allowed in the ring before and after fights. To many rah-rah boys with big mouths these days ::**
A national Review board for ALL officials. If there is 1 Totally diverse to other 2 they go to review for there insight and explanations. Not a witch hunt but accountability a must.
INSTANT REPLAY. Think of more later.
Re: If you could change anything about boxing, what would it be?
I'd have a better purse system..no more of the loser getting more or no where near as much as the winner.

Yep, i definitely missed that one. A decent fighter of 210 is not at a disadvantage if he is infact a decent fighter. Less weight= more stamina and speed. At 200+, power won't be an issue either. Tyson was under 220 a large part of his career. Size and weight and not the most significant factors for power. I refer you to jameel mccline and valuev.
