Just the fact that only in his 14th fight he'd already beaten someone like Byrd is very impressive to me...
But this is a Sauerland event so I just hope that there is not any f@cked up decision for Chambers,IF he is
the better man...
Im in the total opposite boat... I've seen Chambers last few fights but never Povetkin.. So obviously I have no prediction... However, I wouldn't put a whole lot of stock in Povetkins win over Byrd.. He was a seasoned vet, but I'm not sure Chris Byrd has anything left, physically or mentally, the rematch loss to Klitschko pretty much ended his career. Totally with Oumafan in picking Chambers based on style though, he's kind of like a James Toney/Chris Byrd light..
Re: Povetkin/Chambers....Who is Everyone Picking
Even though Povetkin has half the fights of Chambers, I'd say their competition is about equal. I'd say Povetkin's UD against Larry Donald and KO of Byrd are just as good or better then Chambers UD against Guinn and SD against Brock.
I think Chambers loves to fight those big, slow hw's, but Povetkin might have enough speed to keep it interesting.
Still, since Chambers has not been bothered by the power of opponents who were quite larger then Povetkin is, I still think Chambers will win the UD.
I think this will be a good fight. Two "undersized" heavies going at it that both show better endurance and speed then most in the division. Both always come in the ring with a little padding on them as well, Chambers could be a cruiser with no problem
Re: Povetkin/Chambers....Who is Everyone Picking
Interesting...all the replies so far have been in Chamber's favor. I guess if he can make it stinker he has a chance, but I personally favor Povetkin as the better all around fighter. We'll see.
Re: Povetkin/Chambers....Who is Everyone Picking
Ever since they came up with this 'tournament', I have said Povetkin would come out on top. No reason to change that now.
Also, do people actually think that Chambers will get the decision in Germany, if the fight is even remotely close?
(I do think Povetkin will win this legit though)
Re: Povetkin/Chambers....Who is Everyone Picking
Daxx I've admitted to you before that I no little about each man and my interest in the Heavies is in hibernation at the moment.
However, Povetkin seems to be making waves and has the intent to make something of himself, so not only do I pick him for this fight, I pick him to beat all top guys in the future (excluding Klitschko)

CC's all around
Re: Povetkin/Chambers....Who is Everyone Picking
I haven't seen Povetkin fight yet.I like Chambers simply by him being from Philly and all,but if I held a potato chip in front of him he probably couldn't break it with 3 punches. So I really couldn't tell ya.
Re: Povetkin/Chambers....Who is Everyone Picking
I know that Povetkin is the definite favorite and has some nice names on that short resume.
Chambers is kind of a sleeper due to his size. But he's got good skill, good chin, good defense, great composure, will be very game, and is the fastest guy in the hw division. I think Povetkin will be taken by surprise. Taken into account it is fairly scored I still stand by Chambers ud.
This thread has really peaked my interest in the fight! I wasn't thinking about it much before, but now I will definitely tune in.
Re: Povetkin/Chambers....Who is Everyone Picking
Yeah come to think of it, this is a big fight.
I like Chambers so i'll go with him. He's got real talent.

That much is for sure...Power is one thing Chambers does not have...He is slick though and seems to have a pretty solid jaw...Other then power the real downside on Chambers is his size....I don't think he has ever fought over 220...To my knowledge he has never been down...something big to his credit

This fight definatly brings up somne interest...even if no one is a fan of either or has no real interest in either fighter...these are the next wave in the heavyweight division....most of the current crop is on its way out for sure....my guess is the moment Oleg loses his title he will retire...Rahman is on his way out and if he does not leave with in the nest yr he is certainly not of any importance....Same for Briggs...Shannon will go back to fighting bums to pad his record and get a bunch of pointless wins....Ruiz..Tua...all done....

Re: Povetkin/Chambers....Who is Everyone Picking
Chambers didn't look half bad against guinn and brock, i think he'll speed tap his way to a decision.
Re: Povetkin/Chambers....Who is Everyone Picking
Should be a good close fight but I'll probably give the edge to Povetkin. Chambers has looked good in recent outings but to be fair his competition hasn't been great. Rossey couldn't box for S***, Dominic Guinn was.....well Dominic Guinn and Calvin Brock was fat, slow and out of shape.
Poevtkin is probably bigger and stronger than all three of those and has much more career momentum right now. When you factor in that the fight will take place in Germany, and that Chambers is not a puncher it's going to hard to imagine him getting a win in a close fight.
I'm going for a competitive but clear win for Povetkin probably on points but maybe by late stoppage, Chambers is just a blown up cruiser after all.
One thing I will say though is that this mini tournament has been all but pointless. Of the 4 who took part two already had been killed by Wlad which meant including them in this elimination tourny beggered belief but at least they both got eliminated early.
Whoever wins this month I think we can practically guarantee that they will be KTFO in their very next bout ;D
Re: Povetkin/Chambers....Who is Everyone Picking
Chambers is a crafty little fellow no question about that, Eddie chambers does well with guys that 1- 2 it and done., .the problem he will have with Sasha is that Povetkin puts the punches together in 4/5/6 combinations this allows the first few punches to bring down the guard and the remainder to hit the mark. , also Povetkin has very good foot positioning , strong legs. Sasha is always ready to punch. I am really impressed with this Povetkin, The Russian has developed nicely over the years, would make a great champion, he has the right mindset ,skill , and thrill factor. Team Povetkin has done a very good job . I wish him the best !
I would be very surprised if Eddie wins this match. I just see him out hassled, and out punched. waits around for things to happen to him.
