Re: Just watched Paulie vs Cotto again, and...
yeah, lets not mention Cotto struggling with weight for like his last 2 fights at 140.
Lets not mention he started talking about moving up in weight after the Torres fight but still fought there.
I mean I don't need to see the fight over to know he decided to box Paulie, Cotto turned to a boxer and boxed Paulie in the last rounds turning southpaw and all. He knew he was wining and knew Paulie couldn't fade him.
Cotto at 140 is not the same Cotto we see here at 147.
Cottos nutrioning is better, Cottos body is more full here and this weight fits him well for now.
There is no doubt in my mind that SSMs speed will cause Cotto lots of problems especially early on but once Cotto adjusts I think hes gonna take over. I think SSM will have really good moments throughout the fight showing good speed and landing really good shots. But it is also important to see whos landing the harder cleaner punches and whos doing the most damage.

Very well said mi hermano, SSM said "I've fought his style before, I've seen it. I don't need a strategy or a plan I'm just gonna go in there and fight him as I go along." "I know how to beat his kind, hes robotical and does standard things I already know"
Right on Shane, you do your thing. Go in there without a plan you'll be OK. :)

Miguel Cotto has his downside like any boxer but he's tough and he's got more heart than most anyone out there.
Shane has taken shots to the head very well but what about body shots??? What happens when Shane moves into a corner and is stunned by a left hook to the stomach?
We all know Cotto takes too many punches but let me tell you he has the ability to box very well, he did it vs Abdullaev he can punch and move and switch to southpaw and other than the fact he doesn't have the size or style to beat Mosley the way Wright and Forrest did......I still think Cotto is the winner by stoppage
Re: Just watched Paulie vs Cotto again, and...
I just watched the Paulie/Cotto fight as well today and Cotto did struggle with Paulies hand speed at times and watching this fight again only makes me even more confident in Sugar Shane getting the late KO (but it aint gunna be easy). Cotto bust up Paulie with his left hooks and his bodyshots but Paulie showed tonnes of heart. Everyone is saying that Cottos bodyshots are gonna be too much for Mosley but Mosley took some big bodyshots off ODLH in both there fights and still went on to win, surley Oscar hits harder than Cotto??
Re: Just watched Paulie vs Cotto again, and...
I think you can make a case for both fighters losing here.
Thats why its so interesting.
Shane's speed could be too much for Cotto but Cotto's relentlessnes could be too much for Shane at this stage of his career.
I really can't wait for this.
I think Shane takes it but i wouldn't put money on it.

Well i feel that, it was more Paulies movement and footwork that puzzled Cotto. Had Malignaggi stood still long enough he would have been taken out, his footwork kept him in that fight. I feel that fight was a lot like Judah Cotto in that although they desrve credit for staying in there they really never threatened. Many people made out that Malignaggi was unlucky not to win, but for me Cotto dominated.
Ricky Hatton says when he fights at 140 he weighs in before the fight at 150. Id love to know what Miguel weighed after the weigh in just before this fight as he looked incredibly big in comparison to malignaggi.

I agree Cotto did look alot bigger than Paulie and I agree Cotto pretty muched dominated the fight and landed the harder punches. The only time Paulie really caught Cotto is when Cotto went backwards. I think if Mosley uses his boxing skills and footwork he can cause Cotto alot more problems than Paulie did cus Shane has the power in his punches that Paulie lacked to hurt Cotto.
Who are you backing for the win hitmandonny cus Im sure I read in another thread that you are a Mosley fan????

Agreed.
Well you may have read in another thread that im a mosely fan and in another that i'm a cotto fan ::**
I really admire both guys (wjich is funny as stylistically they'ree opposites.) and i find it so hard to favour one guy.
As i said elsewhere a win for shane would be great as it would cement his legacy, but a win for Cotto would be good for boxing beginning an entirely new legacy for the sport.
So to be honest i won't no who i support until the bell rings and i begin to shout for somebody!!!!

If Cotto had been fighting anybody else (apart from Hatton) I would be backing him but I have been a massive Mosley fan for ages and I dont think he has many big fights left and if he loses this I fear he will retire. I want him to get his big fight with Mayweather!!

I understand that completely...Im really torn, but either way il be glad, it would be even better if it were a fighter similar to Calzagh/kessler where both guys come out with Pride.

I think they are both fighters who definetly wont lose without a bloody battle or massive KO as nither of them give up easy. I think we are in for a treat and I cant wait, still not sure where I am watching it yet but aint missing it for nothing!!
Re: Just watched Paulie vs Cotto again, and...
This fight is definatly a toss up....check out this prediction article................http://boxingtalk.com/pag/article14053.html
Re: Just watched Paulie vs Cotto again, and...
As far as speed and power go in this fight I think a better comparision would be Cotto's fight with Judah. You can only compare the first couple of rounds as Judah tailed off as the fight went on. Which I dont see Mosely tailing off in this fight. The couple times Cotto was rocked, only once did it seem to affect him most of the round. The big difference I think is that SSM is going to be able to sustain his attacks through out the fight, while Judah only did it the first few rounds. But I am real interested to see how SSM stands up to Cotto's sustained attack to the body. This has a great chance to be FOTY, both guys come to fight and dont back down. Wish I could get somewhere to see it. I will have to settle for downloading it the next day.
I am rooting for Cotto, but there is no shame if he loses to SSM.
Re: Just watched Paulie vs Cotto again, and...
....the tailing off depends on if Cotto causes damage to Shane especially to the body.
Shane has never fought a guy who digs to the body like Cotto....Cotto has fought power punchers, Cotto has fought speedy slick boxers, now he just has to merge the two.
Shane is a class fighter, maybe an all-time great but I feel he is going to lose out to a younger hungrier fighter

Mick, you deserve another cc in 24 for that post. And cc to you too Puya. Remember people,Cotto weighed this much when he was in his early teens!!It's incredible that he is still around at this weight! I see a move to 154 sooner or later but for now,I want to see him kick ass at WW! The best part about the posts are the highlighted, awesome stuff.
