yes after watching haye beat mormeck this afternoon - i gotta agree this is an amazing year for us brits. we just need the mainstream media to get onboard by making joe sports personality of the year! (he won , lewis hamilton lost - surely that makes joe a cert for the trophy)
There's been dough for Calzaghe BUT he is a 5/1 shot Hamilton is 1/5. He's got no chance.Quote:

it really annoys me! - the brit rugby team has already been honoured when they won the world cup in 2003, the cricket team and footie team ain't done anything this year. lewis had a great year but he lost when it really mattered - calzaghe should be a no brainer - it sucks that they do this!
The British mindset is jealous and backbiting towards actual winners (see the treatment Clive Woodward got in the press since 2003) whilst the Brits love a brave loser.Quote:

Easily ;)
We've certainly stamped our UK feet across the planet in Style this year.
And next year could be even better 8)

This is working on the theory that the higher the rank of the title loser, the more credible and competativeness etc. of the fights.
And the results were:
IBF: 10.47 (from 13.51)
WBC: 10.86 (from 9.83)
IBO: 11.15 (from 23.26)
WBO: 16.32 (from 17.11)
WBA: 28.57 (from 17.02)
EBU: 51.12 (from 34.4)
Commonwealth: 51.55 (from 62.10) !!!
Champs Like Wladimir Klitschko, Antonio Tarver, Tomasz Adamek and Ricky Hatton all hold IBO World Champion belts and this shows that the IBO is on the way up.

Being a bit of a statto myself, I have to say there is a rather big flaw in this logic, because by calculating the ranking of the loser of the fight, it will always mean that the title holder, should he lose, is counted as 1, thus to be at the top of this calculation, all a boxing organisation has to do is to have the champions lose most often.Quote:

As was suggested in the thread itself, this would have a lot more credibility if it had calculated the average rank of the challengers, rather than the losers of title fights.
You forgot :o

Seriously though a Great year and also some talented amateurs like Bradley Saunders, Joe Murray and Frankie Gavin who all qualified for the Olympic Games in Beijing.
if Ricky can make it3/3 then it really would be the best year ever for B Boxing
