Hagler vs. Jones jr. Middleweight, in their Prime.

I should clarify that last comment; it sounded a bit flippant and that wasn't my intention.
To the best of my knowledge, RJJ never fought at 160 after the Hopkins fight. He became a much better fighter afterwards, as did Hopkins. At that point, however, they were simply the best of a bad lot. It was not a good fight; far from being a battle between modern greats, it was 2 guys with 20 some fights fighting an equally skilled opponent for the first time and they both floundered. Don't confuse what Jones was later to what he was then. He had to learn and feel his way like anybody else.
I'll stand by that statement, however. At 160 Roy Jones Jr. was an advanced amateur. Pretty well advanced, but still not a true pro.

I have seen most of Jones career, Jones out boxed a legend like Hopkins while having a broken hand after the 7th round i think it was.

Hagler

Before the Tommy Hearns fight Hagler prepared to do battle for 12 rounds what he displayed in the 3 that were necessrary.

Had Roy used his traditional trash talk and ticked Marvin off he would have prepared the same, gone to war for 12 and won.

I say won because I'm not sure whether Roy could withstand a beating like Hagler loved to dole out.

No disrespect to the greatest Super Middle of all time though.

Absolutley agreed Jones was literally deadly.
But as smooth and slick as Roy was Hagler was rough and jagged, I feel that Hagler would have won by attrition and abrasion.

You haven't seen enough of Hagler. He was only "rough and deadly" at the end of his career. At his peak he was a beautiful fast slick boxer with lazer straight punches, and he fought the best and the slickest around. He'd EAT RJJ and it would be an easy fight for him, fighting the Roy Jones Jr that fought at 160.

I've seen nearly all of Hagler, he's been a big infleunce on me. He was strnger in the body than Jones and would have made Jones' advantage in height a disadvantage.

That's the problem with these fantasy fights. You take two great fighters and someone always weighs in with some ludicrously disparaging remark about one or the other.

There was a marathon Lewis-v-Marciano thread on another site. The poll concluded that the glass-jawed faggot beat the overrated club fighter hands down - at least if you believed many of the comments.

I'd go for Hagler on this one, although to my mind, Jones didn't stay long enough atop the middleweight division to draw a fair comparison, whereas Hagler of course is an all-time great at the weight. And somehow I cannot picture Hagler at super-middle, too small.

Yeah, Hagler to catch up with the amateur late on.

Hagler, as 160 was not Roy's best weight.
