The numbers I gave you are good.
The numbers on that ESPN article are initial reports. after all the numbers roll up, they almost always increase. For everybody. This is due to the various RBOC's and cable providers reporting differently.
Much like the initial reports for The World Awaits was 2.15 million, and after the final rollup, it increased to 2.4 million.
REPEAT: COTTO-MOSLEY WAS NOT 400K. If you are believing an Arum-reported number, then you are making a MEGA mistake. You would be foolish to believe an Arum num. Trust an HBO initiual report; don't trust a promoter report.
I have no vested interest in mis-reporting any nums here. They are what they are.

[It] was the highest-grossing fight we've ever had in the lighter weight classes and concluded a memorable trilogy in which over one million buys and nearly $50 million of [pay-per-view] revenue was generated by the two fighters," said Taffet.
The two fights this year of Morales and Pacquiao helped HBO PPV to earn the second biggest income in 2006 with overall 11 cards. Sales totaled 3.7 million buys and approximately $177 million.
It is only behind the revenue made in 1999, which had four big bouts featuring the two Lennox Lewis-Evander Holyfield bouts and Oscar De La Hoya fights against Felix Trinidad and Ike Quartey.
One of the huge fights this year was between Oscar De La Hoya and Ricardo Mayorga, which did 925,000 buys and $46.2 million. The other seven cards generated between 325,000 and 425,000 buys.

I don't think you can really judge it like that. Cotto wasn't the only attraction Mosley was too.

Yeah this fight with Ricky will show just how much BIGGER Oscar-Floyd made Floyd. Although I highly doubt it will get anywhere near 700,000 let alone 1 million.
My point about Cotto was his fight numbers fall into the standard PPV for all fighters barring Oscar.. I don't see his numbers surging upwards in the future. Guys like Oscar are clearly one-offs in the popularity stakes.

You were questioning and criticizing my numbers as only being 95% accurate, yet you keep claiming that "Cotto did good numbers" when the only numbers you have seen are the propaganda from the promoter. Who is a proven and consistent liar.
And I told you that Cotto-Mosley numbers were WAY less. And I just provided you with SIXTY FIVE other PPV numbers that you can't dispute for more than +/- five percent.
AGAIN: COTTO-MOSLEY DID NOT DO 400K. IT DID A BIT UNDER 300K. When I get the exact figure, I will post it. But for now, the 300K number is what you should use.

What makes the numbers a network gives more accurate then a promoters?

The numbers that the network reports (a public company that reports revenues, business results and profits to its sharholders) are going to be accurate. Or pretty close. Time-Warner has to file financial reports to the SEC (10Q, 10K). With the Sarbanes-Oxley requirements, they aren't going to abjectly falsify the nums. No reason for it.
The numbers that a promoter reports are intended to , er, PROMOTE his fighter. Those numbers can be anything because the promoter is under ZERO obligation to report accurately. Not his profit. Not his side endorsement deals. Not his cut of the event. He is trying to make his fighter seem like he is a commercial draw to create excitement for future events.
For example, Mark Taffet will directly tell you that 2007 will be his biggest year. They will exceed 4 million buys (in fact, they are close even before 'Undefeated'). The previous record year was 1999.

If Mayweather-Gatti did 360000, it's hard to argue Ricky has a higher profile/US fanbase than Arturo. Maybe the PBF-DLH fight and the 24/7 thingies will help, but it's going to be closer to half a million than a million.If we were running a book on this, I wonder what the over/under would be? :)
