I'm not bitter nor angry about the situation but I'm under no illusion that Joe Cortez did not perform well on the night. He had obviously heard of Ricky's penchant for clinching and mauling and as a result all clinches initiated by Haton were broken immediatly (which is improper as a referee is supposed to let the clinch go for 3 seconds to see how the fighters progress.)
Clinches initiated by Floyd were left unpunished and Floyd purposely lifting his elbows and forearms was deemed acceptable!
As a trainer you no Floyd said "I'll try this till he warns me, I mite cause him to swell a bit." and when he wasn't reprimanded he continued.
Had Joe reffed a fight I was in a treated me that way (which is how I looked at it) I would have been outraged. Not bitter, like I said Hatton lost the fight decisivley himself, but Joe did a poor job.

It started well before that. In fact i feel it starte about thirty seconds into the first round...I don't want to rewatch it and find out. He turned his back after another bad decision. That was in the third i believe.
He didnt turn his back,he bent over and slapped em.Joe was letting the holds go longer then he should have before that
If you want to bitch about Cortez,about all you really have,is he really should have stopped it right after the first knockdown when Ricky clearly couldnt defend himself,rather then letting him take that second knockdown
He was letting the holds go longer than he should have?
Rewatch the fight, he broke clinches instantaneously!

The guys a legend, I certainly hope he doesn't feel he must retire as to be honest he was the only fighter who ever made a Mayweather fight essential viewing. He kept me on the edge of my seat and he boxed well.
If possible, I admire him even more after defeat and as I said....Forever my favourite fighter.
The guy is a legend in Manchester,he is a virtual unknown in the US and the rest of the world.

Good for you, shows character, and what do the great ones do? They bounce back. CC for manning up to a defeat. Sometimes fighters gain more respect from a loss than a win if ya know what I mean.

I thought Cortez did a hell of a job...Hatton just didn't get away with some of the normal shit that he pulls.
I also thought that Hatton looked pretty well for a few rounds in spots...but damnit man...Floyd was on point.

cortez jumped in BEFORE they had even clinched at some points in the fight, Ill have to check the exact times and rounds but i remember him grabbing hattons arm while he was throwing a punch with it :o It was a disgraceful performance from a top class referee like cortez.
that all said and done though, floyd was top draw and would have won regardless, he really impressed me and it was quite painful for me to watch my mate get taken apart like that. Ill hold my hands up to PBF and admit i underestimated him.
Also in regard to hatton showing his arse, that was not the case he was saying to the ref 'Ill fight like this and see what happens' indicating that floyd kept turning his back and ducking down so what was he supposed to do. ;)

It wasn't a 'kiss my arse' routine. He was basically showing Cortez how Mayweather was avoiding punches.

I got it wrong too.
Of course Mayweather was favourite and was the betting mans choice but Ricky was my fighter and Ive been following him a long time. I was willing him to win, though of course the part of my brain that actually processes thought, had its own elements of doubt.
Cortez was a disgrace, but fair enough Ricky lost the fight by knock out. And you dont lose more decisively than that.
I really havent been affected by a knockout in that manner before. For an hour after the fight I just sat numb. I really couldnt believe Floyd had actually stopped Ricky and in the manner that he did it. It was breathtaking and soul sapping. I dont want to go through that again in a hurry!!
I hope Ricky has a month off and gets a fight signed and gets back in the fray pretty soon. A tune up is fine, just as long as he stays busy and in decent shape.

I'm also worried about the effect of the loss on Rick. Not only on his mentality but his body too. Will he drinhk his fill til he's consoled homself and eat more than is advisble over the Christmas? Or will he attempt to maintain some sort of condition and be in shape? Hard to know...

There is no knowing how much this may have taken out of him though. He didnt just lose. He got taken out big time and it takes a special fighter to maintain it at the top after a crushing knockout and the loss of the 0. Barrera shows how it can be done. Michael Spinks shows how it isnt.
Its a matter of waiting and hoping it turns out right. Rick deserves a drink or 2 and some nice greasy food....but then its time to get back in the gym. Fingers crossed.

Fingers crossed indeed. A factor which worries me is the proposed layoff.
I no that a fight at Light Welter means he needs time to drop the extra muscle mass he loaded on for the fight with Mayweather, but I feel that fighting again in June as he mentioned in the post fight interview is a bit much.
Having accepted the loss I felt that it would greatly benefit his financial career and legacy if he upped the activity and fought 3 times a year as opposed to twice as he has in recent years. However, for some reason this seem to be out of the question.
And Mr.Lopez was that a jibe at me or Miles?
